1.116: Sonnet 47: Engaging sense of sadness to it
There is a nice interplay between heart and eyes in the text of this sonnet, and I enjoyed reading it thus – as one covering for the other with the heart stepping in if there is absence, and the eyes feasting when it has the time. What I did not pick up on so much was that this was all written in a state of absence; so while it is good that the heart remembers and can keep the love, it is not as good as the eyes getting it directly from the source. This is an aspect the film brings out quite nicely with the use of music and the visual content. It cuts back and forward between the two locations/times, allowing the cast to fill in the relationship side, which then helps the absence to come over more clearly.
It is still a little functional in doing this, but this is more about the directness of the text and the shortness of the film. Otherwise it is nicely constructed, well delivered, and brings out an engaging sense of sadness as part of the delivery.
