I feel it's good, it's good

This show presents a very focused story. You already know what is going to happen yet you might not have any idea how that can happen, and that is what drags you into the story itself. Alright, we know its a revenge story, but how does the main character pull this through is what makes it an interesting watch. As you sit down and try to follow his plan, he always comes back and surprises you with a new twist, same goes for several other characters. And as you try to figure out the next step of this series, it proves you wrong, and this kind of anime always gets you coming back for more. I guess I'm naive enough to enjoy this show a lot. If you are a self acclaimed anime or movie expert, you can criticize this show with your pretentious words however you want. I see the effort that the staff has put in both story telling, art and heart. This show is worth watching this summer.

Don't judge the book from a few pages you read

Warning: Spoilers
There is no point to expect something from gangster anime when you already seen a lot of movie/drama related to it. With that in mind, I start watching the show without any expectation at all.

The first 4 episodes of anime contains ton of clichés and emptiness emotion left inside even through Angelo, the protagonist of this series manage to seek out his revenge.

The only thing that can keep me watching is the opening song that I truly love to heard it at least once a week and the free-time waiting for another show to be aired.

However, it turn out to be interesting when the story keep developing further and the revenge will not just be only seeking redemption to those killers when Angelo joyfully found that the greatest sweetness of revenge is not avenging but sorrowing that he could delivered behind them endlessly.

More than what it appears from first viewing

Warning: Spoilers
At first glance this could be mistaken for a dreary dirge chronicling revenge enacted by a rather bitter (understandably so) protagonist. But there is more to this story. The pairing up of the protagonist and the target of his revenge lends itself to interesting opportunities for character development.

Revenge is enacted not simply by gunning down the baddies, but by cunning and intriguing plots.

There are many homages (I'm treating them so, others might think they're blatant lifts) to gangster movies, very obviously the Godfather but others, e.g. episode 6 has an ending alluding to a certain late 80s black comedy involving gangsters.Just waiting for the Thelma and Louise ending!

A "Peaky Blinders" type of anime
Irishchatter4 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This anime definitely shows us a good detailed history of the "prohibition era" which took place from 1920 to 1933(thanks to Wiki lol). This meant any gangs were able to smuggle "illegal" alcohol and of course, when disputes start to flare up, it leads gangs to killing their own men. It's pretty sad that young fellas were pulled into these kind of actions. I mean you would understand Avilio's emotions and feelings to getting revenge on the men for killing his family. Unfortunately for him, he got killed by Nero at a beach near the end just because he wiped out most of his men. My heart actually sank like from all the years he suffered without having a family and defending the world by himself, you'd think the bloke would have at least a happy ending lol!

Anyways if you're into gangster plus revenge stuff, totally worth watching this anime folks! 8/10

A tale of revenge in prohibition era America
Tweekums8 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Set in the fictional town of Lawless, Illinois during the prohibition era this series follows Angelo Lagusa a young man who is determined to have his revenge against those who murdered his family seven years previously. Now, having changed his name to Avilio Bruno, he works to infiltrate the Vanetti crime family. He works with a friend to produce 'Lawless Heaven' the best bootleg booze around and befriends Nero, the Don's son. Once in he gradually kills those responsible for the death of his family as well as changing the balance of power between the various rival families.

This tale of revenge may be set in prohibition era America but anybody expecting something like 'Baccano!' may be a little disappointed… and those wanting something more serious will be rather pleased. This doesn't try to be funny; the characters are by and large fairly unsympathetic; even our protagonist gets less likable as the acts of revenge take their toll. The animation is of a good quality and everything looks great; the subdued colour palette suits both the story and the ear. The character designs also suit the story; they are distinctive yet have a fairly realistic look. The story progresses at a good pace and there is plenty of action in each episode. Not surprisingly there is a fair amount of violence and bloodshed but not an excessive amount. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to any anime fans who are also fans of the gangster genre.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

I love the way this anime portray the story to its viewer because from the beginning onwards we can suspect how this anime will end but after knowing also we don't feel bore because we develop interest to know how things going to happened and the end of this anime is also satisfying.

A Riveting Revenge Tale in Prohibition-Era America
lipnusis30 July 2023
91 Days is a gripping anime that takes viewers on a dark and compelling journey through the underworld of Prohibition-era America. Set in a time of crime, corruption, and vendettas, the series weaves a tale of vengeance and moral ambiguity that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

The story follows Angelo Lagusa, a young man seeking revenge against the mafia family that murdered his parents. The narrative is driven by Angelo's relentless pursuit of justice, making for a tense and action-packed plotline. The show successfully captures the atmosphere of the 1920s, with its attention to detail in depicting the gangster lifestyle and the underground activities during the Prohibition era.

The character development in 91 Days is commendable, especially concerning Angelo. As the protagonist, he undergoes significant growth throughout the series, evolving from a grieving son to a calculating and cold-hearted individual with a singular focus. His moral descent blurs the lines between right and wrong, adding complexity to his character and leaving viewers questioning their own moral compass.

The supporting characters are well-crafted and contribute to the overall intrigue of the story. Each member of the mafia family has their own motivations and hidden agendas, creating a web of alliances and betrayals that keeps the narrative unpredictable. This well-rounded cast of characters adds depth to the plot and prevents it from becoming a one-dimensional tale of revenge.

91 Days boasts excellent animation and art direction, capturing the gritty and atmospheric essence of the era. The attention to detail in the depiction of period-appropriate settings, costumes, and firearms enhances the overall authenticity of the show.

Furthermore, the series does a commendable job of showcasing the consequences of revenge and how it can consume one's life. It delves into the psychological toll that vengeance takes on the characters, making it more than just a mindless action anime.

However, despite its strengths, 91 Days does have a few shortcomings. The pacing of the story can be uneven at times, with some episodes feeling rushed while others slow down to focus on character introspection. Additionally, the complexity of the plot and the large number of characters might make it challenging for some viewers to keep track of everyone's allegiances and motivations.

Moreover, the lack of a clear protagonist-antagonist dynamic may disappoint those who prefer more straightforward storytelling. The morally ambiguous nature of the characters and their actions can make it difficult for some viewers to fully root for any particular side.

In conclusion, 91 Days is a compelling revenge tale set in a gritty and atmospheric Prohibition-era America. With its well-developed characters, gripping plot, and thought-provoking exploration of vengeance, it manages to stand out in the realm of anime. While it may not be perfect, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of crime dramas and complex narratives.

Unexpected ending

Warning: Spoilers
Fast paced anime which I didn't like. A lot of violence which I liked. Unsatisfying ending. I was hoping Angelo would finally shoot Nero and Vincent dead. Very ambiguous ending.

Solid Prohibition-era mafia revenge story
k-gordo1724 April 2023
While this Prohibition-era mafia revenge story is simple and seen many times, the execution is what makes this show stand out and worth your time.

Solid animation, great atmosphere encapsulating the 1930s, and the plight of the main character is what will initially pull you in to continue watching. While the theme of "revenge being a dish best served cold" is blatantly the point of the show, the show introduces interesting dynamics between the main character and his targets that make the final decisions impactful and emotional. I appreciated the effort of the character development of the villains to make them unique rather than bland heartless killers.

The show is fast paced. It is either raising the stakes or changing the situation to keep the audience and the main characters on their toes. Also, morality is sometimes blurred in situations to avoid boredom of having a simple good vs. Evil battle.

There isn't much else to discuss. Simple story, great execution. Pick it up on blu-ray to enjoy in high definition to really make the animation really pop off the screen. The disc is cheap right now.
