The year is supposed to be 1904, but the music played on the piano is too old and more reminiscent of the 18th century. An upscale party such as shown would, of course, play the latest music. Equally, the women are wearing such old threads, they seem to belong to antiquity - or at least very early Victorian years - when this is actually taking place in Edwardian era.
