The James J. Kilpatrick interview was interrupted by unrelated audience laughter, prompting host Dick Cavett to tell previous interviewee Redd Foxx that doing off-camera "physical shtick" was "unfair". At the end of the show, Cavett said, "I'm sorry if you're sore at me. You can come back and we'll talk about it." Foxx replied, "Naw, I ain't"--but he never did the show again.
Although the sound of sirens would occasionally be heard inside the theatre, Cavett mentions that this is the first time it has happened. He mentions a nearby firehouse, which was likely the one at 48th and 8th, three blocks up from the Golden Theatre, where the show was taped. He also teases Redd Foxx, telling him they're coming for him--implying that they were police sirens (Foxx's record albums, full of dirty jokes, were considered close to pornography in those days).
