Although Disney did make 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), their Captain Nemo was played by white Englishman James Mason. Faran Tahir is of Pakistani descent and is therefore much closer to the Nemo in the original novel who was described as an Indian prince rebelling against the British Empire.
Captain Nemo is of course a character from Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. At one point when talking to Captain Hook he talks about The Mysterious Island. This is another book by Jules Verne.
The Latin "nemo," means "no one." In Homer's "Odyssey" the hero Ulysses tells the giant cyclops Polyphemus his name is Outis (Greek for "no one"). Later, when Ulysses blinds the giant and Polyphemus cries out for help because no one has injured him, the other giants think he is just drunk or mad.
Captain Nemo is introduced.
