Good Enough
PennyReviews18 April 2018
The story of a time traveller's wife isn't something new. And yet, this drama manages to keep the interest high throughout the sixteen episodes. The drama starts kind of odd, with the guy meeting with the girl, and saving her from an accident. We then discover slowly his secret and her past. Sure, they get married very quickly, so if you're looking for a slow built romance, maybe this one isn't for you. The drama focuses more on the mysteries of the future, on the bad guy in the office and on trying to figure out how to change one's fate. The performances, moreover, were really good and the side stories, even though they were few and had only a few minutes airing time, were cute and entertaining. So, 8 out of 10, only because some things were left unexplained, but the twist in the end was amazing.

I admit this dram isn't legendary but it certainly is very enjoyable and suspenseful. It's a fun storyline and the main characters are great actors! If you're looking for an easy yet enticing drama I highly recommend

Lay It On The🚇Line Time After Time
50fiftillidideeBrain19 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fair warning: This drama is tense and could definitely trigger anxiety in some.

I enjoyed this show, though it's not without its issues.

While the ending wasn't that difficult to figure out, the director still managed to set the tone with tension being a focal point. The pressure continues to gear up until the very end.

The characters are likable. Ma-rin's pain was framed explicitly: That actress is superb. All the actors did a solid job. The side vignettes were all enjoyable. Lee Jeong-Eun has such luminosity: She shines once again as Mar-in's mother. She is one of my favs. (Check her out in Oh My Ghost -stupid title, amazing show- Some of her scenes are astonishing. Her portfolio has impressive depth of field, and is jammed with highly rated shows and movies). In addition, the villain's storyline worked well enough. The actor delivered a tangible portrayal of his descent from a respected businessman to a muderer with unfiltered evil saturation. Yes, he was, originally, a little crooked, but that wasn't in anybody's viewfinder.

I've noticed that Korean dramas often show individuals who experience a marked character arc. Often these persons have a skewed aspect-ratio, and are initially cringeworthy in bursts of nervous awkwardness. Since these dramas mostly have 16 or more episodes, the characters may not start to improve for many episodes. The directors have a long time to build up, or distort, whom the individual is. They can then to put the focus on slowly developing them from black-and-white to full RBG color.

Ma-rin is like this. Her over-exposed childhood kept her adult self shuttered in a darkroom. She had become so insecure that it was actually challenging to watch her in the first few episodes. However, she has a wonderful transformation from dull to glossy. It is satisfying to see how she develops into the model of a confident and strong woman by the end. One might say she bloomed into a picture-perfect flower.

So-Joon also grows as a person. While he's clearly good-hearted, he is also a portrait of immaturity and laziness in the beginning episodes. He later becomes patient, caring, harder working, more responsible, and more loving. Since his time-traveling exploits make operating his business so easy, it's doubtful that his lazy streak will be completely edited out.

The two leads initially display a lack of chemistry. It actually seems that So-Joon is just using Ma-rin. His motives are blurry. He is an enigma, always with a matte look on his face. The director deliberately injected acidity and unease into their relationship so that we can watch it flourish. The viewer is concerned for Ma-rin and then, eventually, we can be happy for her. By the middle of the show their marriage is the image of warmth and love.

Ultimately, this story, and the love this couple shares, is quite charming. It progresses from indifference and hesitation, to warmth, then love, and finally to committed and intimate love. (Though they are adorably still too shy to strip in front of each other.)

I adore stories about time travel. They are so much fun, but logically it's easy to encounter under-exposed plot points. The show is not without those. Why So-Joon would go near the subway on the day that he knows he'll disappear is grainy logic. I also don't know why he would take Ma-rin to the fireworks. It's not clear why his focus wasn't to get them out of town, or to not leave the house for a few days. It's a little frustrating, actually.

It's understandable that for plot development of a time travel tale like this, that there has to be a plethora of miscommunications and a catalog of flawed judgments. If Mar-in's father, Doo-Shik, had been more candid, with So-Joon.... if they had each just opened their apertures a little wider, it would have been a panacea. I suppose, then, the show would have been wrapped up by episode 8.

The optics regarding time travel get distorted. In some scenes the future is pictured just as So-Joon observed from the past. Seemingly the message exhibited is that the future is set and laminated. In other scenes, though, they manage to change the future, suggesting that the future is a moveable pose. It's also unclear why So-Joon, after recovering from his coma, couldn't get back to the past when riding the subway, or why he was able to run on the tracks and get to the past.

It makes no sense it all the the two men can time skip, while Ma-rIn cannot.

The very end displays a small snapshot of their lives 3 years hence. It fell flat with a dull thud. I didn't like the tone of their bickering, and how Ma-rin was nagging So-Joon. A little of it would have been okay if they had pushed by it right away. However, it's portrayed as entrenched behavior.

Earlier, when they had been fighting and later separated, Ma-rin concluded that she shouldn't have been so pushy towards So-Joon. She determined that she should reset her meter and back down from her insistence that he not ride the subway. That she would revert back at the close of the show is disappointing. And where's the kids? We were promised 3 kids!!!!! Instead of petty bickering they should have committed the 3 kids to film.

Now we'll point the zoom lens at one of the worst screw-ups. The director left the So-Joon who managed to get to the past just hanging. There should have been a resolution of that mystery. That So-Joon flashed by the screen twice, like a cartoon character, and then faded away.

How could they not know that we would want to know how he got to the past! Since he knows he somehow shot back to the past, it would make sense for him to work harder to get back there. It would have been easier to remedy their situation from the past.

Another thing they left out of focus was an explanation as to why So-Joon was in a coma. Per the doctor, there was no reason for him to be in one. The doctor shouldn't have said it if they didn't intend to explain it. (Shoot, did I miss it?)

As another reviewer so deftly put it: It took 16 hours to learn to not run into a busy road. Mar-Rin shouldn't have been near that intersection at that time. Since they were there, So-Joon should have been holding on to her. If they had played it at normal speed, and she had just stopped and turned briefly when the certificate flew out of her hand, it would have played better. The way they decided to film it makes Ma-rin look very foolish.

While the flaws are more than minimal, the good outweighs the bad comfortably. If romance is your thing, especially if romance and time travel are among your interests, than TWY should go on your watchlist. My "7" rating translates to "very good."

Absolutely amazing

I started this series not expecting that much, but boy was I wrong. It will take you from one extreme to the other, most of the series you will ask ''Why can't they just say something'' . Just like in real life, people always want to protect their loved ones. The acting was solid and the story was pretty good as well, although it is filled with a lot of cliffhangers. Overall it is a great rush and at the end you get a feeling of wellness. I recommend this series 10 out of 10.

I'm glad I watched this. Ma Rin was so relatable in every way. She was plain and just normal. But in a heart-warming way. I could get her. And seo joon was protective and kind.I could understand his confusion, his worries and affections. . The story was well paced. The theme music was really perfect. It's really simple but yet it talks to you. It makes you feel something. I don't know how to put it. it may sound strange but this drama feels like very early in the morning.

It has some slow patches and occasionally sketchy plotting, but I stayed with it because I love the talented, adorable leads, and several in the supporting cast. Though it took me a while to get through the series, I enjoyed it.

Slow but good
sirinow30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this because I absolutely love the cast. Shin min A is just too good. The beginning of the drama was decent pace but what brings this one down is that it becomes super slow and drawn out as it goes on. My goodness. The storyline is there but it's only good if this show were 12 episodes max. It really got boring in the 3/4 th mark and then the ending was pretty decent.

But to add on to the slowness the storyline was getting too complex and difficult to understand at points .... the time travel thing was getting too complicated.

Anyways, I would still say this drama was pretty good. It's worth watching if you've already watched all the top tier stuff and wanna see something new and different.

Is Tomorrow🚆Another Day After all? °VG°

While it could have been a lot better, I would still say hop on the train and give it a ride.

True, the ending wasn't that difficult to figure out. Despite that, the director still managed to set the tone with tension being a focal point. The pressure continues to gear up until the very end.

The characters are likable. Ma-rin's pain was framed explicitly: Actress, Shin Mi-na, is superb. All the actors did a solid job. The side vignettes were all enjoyable. Lee Jeong-Eun has such luminosity: She shines once again as Mar-in's mother. She is one of my favs. (Check her out in Oh My Ghost - odd title, amazing show- Some of her scenes are astonishing. Her portfolio has impressive depth of field, and is jammed with highly rated shows and movies). In addition, the villain's storyline worked well enough. The actor delivered a tangible portrayal of his descent from a respected businessman to a muderer with unfiltered evil saturation. Yes, he was originally a little crooked, but that wasn't in anybody's viewfinder.

Kdramas often show individuals who experience a marked character arc. Often these persons have a skewed aspect-ratio, and are initially wince generating, in bursts of nervous awkwardness. Since these dramas mostly have double digit episodes, the characters may not start to improve for a few of them. Patience pays when one is watching Asian entertainment. From that angle, their culture is superior to ours in the USA. The directors take time to build up (or distort) who the individual is. They can then to put the focus on slowly developing them from black-and-white to full RBG color.

Ma-rin is like this. Her over-exposed childhood kept her adult self shuttered in a darkroom. She had become so insecure that it was actually challenging to watch her in the first few episodes. The audience will long to see her resolve to progress from from dull to glossy. So-Joon, while clearly good-hearted, is also a portrait of immaturity and laziness in the beginning episodes. He's in need of some editing himself. The two leads initially display a lack of chemistry which stalls their relationship from developing fully. It actually seems that So-Joon is just using Ma-rin. His motives are blurry. He is an enigma, always with a matte look on his face. The director deliberately injected acidity and unease into their relationship so that we can yearn for it flourish. Concern for Ma-rin will continue to grow. Ultimately, this story is charming. It progresses from indifference and hesitation, to warmth. We glimpse a sense of optimism, amongst the tension, that things will develop further.

Forward on, we ride, to the balance of the critique. Time travel is one of my jams. The stories capture the imagination like nothing else. Logically, it's easy to encounter under-exposed plot points. The show is not without those. The gaps in TWY are moderate to glaring. It could have easily been better. It's frustrating, actually. It's also understandable. For plot development of a time travel tale like this, there must be a collection of miscommunications, and a catalog of flawed judgments. If they had each just opened their apertures a little wider, it would have been a panacea. Then the show would have wrapped up by Ep8.

The optics regarding time travel get distorted. In some scenes the future is pictured just as So-Joon observed from the past. Seemingly, the message exhibited, is that the future is set and laminated. In other scenes, though, that doesn't seem to be the case. For a fantasy show to be great, they Must. Draft. The. Rules. And. Stick. To. Them.

The very end displays a small snapshot of their lives 3 years hence. It's from an unflattering perspective, and it should have been deleted from the show. Kdramas, too often incorporate cross-processed, photo-bombed endings, that must be overlooked if the show is to be enjoyed. Photographers use the term Artifact, which is an element that diminishes the quality of an image. The snapshot of their future has some artifact that's best dropped in the wastebin.

Finally, as another reviewer so deftly put it: It took 16 hours to learn to not run into a busy road. The characters do things that are bothersome.

While the flaws are more than minimal, the good truly does outweigh the bad. If romance is your thing, especially if romance and time travel are among your interests, than TWY should go on your watchlist.

It may not be picture-perfect, nevertheless, there is beauty to behold as time goes by.

I also did a spoiler review.

Mediocre
AJ_McAninch20 May 2020
I am a KDrama fan, but for me this one misses the mark. Leads are good actors, but she is always the same in every performance: an adorable gamin, but no depth. He is a good actor, but no charisma. Writing really is a repetitive plot and quickly boring. Everyone worked hard but in a wheel-spinning drama.

"Do not run on to a busy road" -16 hrs to realize why
ask-1870529 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A potent theme/subject/topic of time travel poorly executed through a feeble plot line (with lots of plot holes) and very confusing and unhelpful editing.

Without giving too much away, I'd say that no amount of time travel will give anyone ability to play God in order to prevent simple human stupidity. Something that most kids recognize all over the world - not to run on to a busy road- seems the main reason in the plot at the end in the series; The lead female character, aged 30+, runs on to the middle of a very busy 6-lane road junction to retrieve a paper marriage registration certificate, knocked out and blown away by a passer-by. If it's that important why wasn't it tucked away safe inside a folder rather than being waved around while held in hand, and even if it gets lost, it is a paper document after all- a reissue could have been requested later. If that is a plot hole, I've just illustrated one of many. You get my point.

Nonetheless, this series (and many others) does make me convinced that if multi-universe theory is true then time travel would be a futile attempt anyway, even if it was made possible. With multitude of time-lines, it would deem sensible to just live your life to the fullest in the time-line that you are in, rather than waste time trying to affect other time-lines with inconsequential outcomes.

Listen, this is worth watching just for Shin Min-a and Lee Je-hoon. It's a beautiful love story and, yes, it has a a few plot holes but I was interested to the last frame. It'd probably rate it 8.5 actually! Nice support cast!

Intricate details
lmerana21 October 2019
I like how the present, past and future stories are coherently organized overall. Usually when there is a time-loop story it was crazy and hard to follow or the repeated scenes are annoying when they have to go back in time and do things all over again. But the story did not offer that much and the ending was something expected.

Cute Love Story
First off, I'm a huge fan of Lee Jehoon. This is the second series I have watched with him and his acting is nothing less than amazing. This was a very cute love story. The main actresses character got on my nerves a few times but other than that, I could watch it again. I cried once in the last episode. The mother is funny. I enjoyed her in another series too. Some of there couples montages were cringy but I got through them. A recommended watch if ur looking for a good love story.

Great chemistry tho
hannahstalavista26 April 2022
Both of the characters of the leads here were immature especially Song Ma Rin. For those people who are planning to watch this, please be informed that Song Ma Rin (Shin Min Ah) here is clumsy, so if you hate sorts of leads, just kindly drop this one. Personally I prefer this kind of plot so I kinda enjoyed it. The chemistry between them was good enough for you to watch it. I just gave this a 8 stars because of the pettiness of the antagonist, his reasons are junk, and also because sometimes I got confused with the drama itself plus I don't like the cinematography and because of the script, I think, it wasn't well written at all. Well the acting skills of both the leads was so good too, this drama did convinced me to gave them a high rate because of the fact that they didn't left me any questions about the entire drama. There isn't much ost here but I learned that Seo In Guk was the singer of its ost. All in all, I finished this with less than 2 weeks so I concluded that this is good enough to recommend to someone who doesn't have a high standards and expectations.

This didn't made me cry nor made me nervous but it surely did moved me. It was a touching story especially on the part that So Joon wished that instead of time travelling (tho he loves his ability and treated it as a blessing) he just hoped that he can freeze the time when he started to like Ma Rin. I can't describe the love between the two. They love each other more than anything.

The last 3 episode doesn't gave me the satisfaction. This fell a little short.

Ps: LEE JE HOON and SHIN MIN AH being a MARRIED COUPLE is a MUST.

8.6/10.

BRAVO! I loved it
shayelowe27 March 2024
Pleasantly surprised. It has everything you could want in a show. Intrigue, drama, action, comedy, romance. This made it to my favorite K-Drama list. Top 5 for me. Wonderful story and GREAT LOVE SCENES. Found this one by chance and was hooked. The ML was excellent and I was wowed by his performance. Will definitely check him out in other projects. He had me crying with him. The FL has been in a couple I've watched and her performance was predictable but I felt her emotions. If I had to compare it to something it would be Destined with You, King the Land, Doom At Your Service, One Spring Night. Much better than My Demon,IMO.

Wonderful Love Story Stunted by Clumsy Timetravel
fake_moviestar29 May 2021
First let me talk about the love story - it was amazing! While the main couple often had "cheesy" lovey-dovey moments, they were super cute and romantic. With a very unknown and unpredictable ending it made these moments seem really special and sweet. I though Lee Je Hoon and Shin Min A had amazing chemistry, they truly seemed like a real couple. I loved the ups and downs of their relationship, and watching them slowly grow and change from happy-cute love to true, selfless love was so pure and wholesome.

The soundtrack is so pretty in this, and this show used a single-camera to film almost all scenes which gave it a very intimate feeling. The cinematography was very well done; I liked how they used wide-angle shots to differentiate between the "present" and "past" timelines.

Okay, now for the time-travel aspect. This was unfortunately poorly done, despite have SO much potential. I think the biggest flaw was that they never explained any "rules" so it left me as a viewer very confused at character motivations - like why didn't he just do this? Why didn't she just say this? Why can he only travel to the future and not the past? It made for some irritation at consequences that seemed avoidable.

While the time-travel aspect ended up a bit of a mess, and the ending felt a bit rushed, overall I think this show is worth a watch for the love story. If you like romance this is a definite must-watch. Just put aside your questions/irritation with the time-travel aspects and enjoy the love story.

Good ideas spoiled by needs to make it into 16 episodes
soullimbo1 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, let me state that I was intrigued by the premise. I've always been a fan of time-travel, whether it be in movies, TV shows or other. I'm not going to rant about errors vis-a-vis the time-travel blah blah blah, or the logistics of it. After all, it's fantasy, and should be accepted as such.

So the writers/executives, whoever it was, came up with this great idea for a show. Unfortunately, it all goes downhill from there. Someone, in all their wisdom, decides that it must go on for 16 x 1- hour episodes. The problem is that, I get the feeling this decision was made long before the knowledge or guarantee, if you like, that the show actually needed those 16 episodes. So the writers are left with the task of prolonging this fantastic idea to the point where it becomes boring/frustrating/annoying. I can forgive them for the time travel errors, cause that's just fantasy, but the moronic characters and dialogue, this I cannot. I'm also amazed by the technical abilities of mobile phones in South-Korea, apparently, they can pick up dialogue with crisp quality from at least 20 yards away when shooting video.

I wonder if writers will ever stray from the 'cliche' of ending an episode on a cliff-hanger, in the vain hope that viewers will just have to watch the next installment. I know, and this may sound radical, but why don't they just concentrate on writing a good script, draw in the viewers, make them sit on the edge of their seat? Not bore them for 55 minutes then throw a spanner in the works in the final 5 minutes like some kind of bait.

This could have been fantastic as, let's say, 4 x 1-hour episodes. I'm guessing at this point, because I reached episode 7 and concluded that 2 x 1-hour shows would have sufficed up til now. I won't be watching anymore, I really tried to give it a fair shot. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions. I've watched other Korean shows (My girlfriend is a gumiho , My love from the star , Master's sun, oh my Venus etc) and found them all to be very enjoyable, or at least, made me watch til the end. As for this festering refuse, I will never know how it ends, and it's something that doesn't bother me at all, I'm just upset that it's taken me 7 episodes to realise that I was wasting my time.

A young businessman is successful due to his ability to travel through time up to two years in the future. He falls in love with a photographer with links to his past and tries to change both their fates. It is an entertaining story and is well acted and the romance side is very believable. The fact that it has Shin Min-a as the photographer is a bonus as I think she is such an outstanding actress who brings a warmth to all her roles.
