What a thoughtful and entertaining journey.
Author Eddy Harris recreates his epic journey from the headwaters of the Mississippi in Minnesota, all the way to New Orleans...by canoe.
The film is part travelogue, part environmental film but all philosophical exploration of what the river is, what it means and how it shapes America in ways both literal and metaphorical. Much like the river itself, the film is deceptively slow paced, sucking the viewer in and carrying us along with Eddy as he meets a wide swath of Americans, asks them about themselves, about us, about the Mississippi. I can't recommend this film enough. I'd travel anywhere with Mr. Harris. In fact, I've got a camera if he wants to come paddle the river that runs through my city.
