Iac, the Barry Diller-owned company that controls The Daily Beast, has landed a strategic partnership with former Disney executive Ben Sherwood and Hearst veteran Joanna Coles to define the digital publication’s next chapter in a struggling media climate.
Effective immediately, Sherwood will serve as publisher and CEO and Coles as chief creative and content officer. As strategic partners, both will share a substantial interest in the company but specific terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
“These are tough times for digital journalism, but the combined experience, expertise and energy of Ben and Joanna have made me an optimist about their ability to make The Beast an enduring and successful enterprise,” said Barry Diller, who is Iac’s chairman and senior executive.

To combat the ominous atmosphere of the Ides of March, Netflix has another Lindsay Lohan film, “Irish Wish,” which is now streaming. The follow-up to “Falling for Christmas” in Lohan’s deal with the streamer to make two films, “Irish Wish” focuses on love, luck and a little bit of magic in the rom-com that arrives right before Saint Patrick’s Day.
Lohan portrays a smart book editor, except when it comes to matters of her heart. It takes a wish granted by a mystical woman out in the beautiful Irish countryside to get Maddie to realize that what she hopes and dreams for might not be what she wants or should want in life.
Featuring music from Lohan’s younger sister, Aliana, and a guest appearance from her brother, Dokota, the cast is stacked with other familiar faces as well. We’ve rounded up the “Irish Wish” cast and...

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 soon – but that project has turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. Things are looking good for him now that he has escaped from that mess, as he recently signed on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad, and now Deadline reports that he’ll be directing the “fast-paced thriller” Drop for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise. Drop has even found its lead already: Meghann Fahy, who was recently seen on season 2 of The White Lotus.
Details on the story Drop will be telling have not been revealed. All we know is the “fast-paced thriller” description and the fact that the screenplay has been written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach,...

One year after becoming the first program in Emmys history to simultaneously net five nominations in a single female acting category, “The White Lotus” has managed to repeat the impressive feat. The only performer involved in both situations is Jennifer Coolidge, who bested her four first season cast mates in the 2022 Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress race and is now heavily favored to do the same in the Best Drama Supporting Actress category. Having already bagged Critics Choice, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her second season performance, there isn’t much stopping her from once again being called up to the Emmys stage.
The quartet of “White Lotus” ladies Coolidge faces this time consists of Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, and Simona Tabasco. Also in the running are returning contenders Rhea Seehorn (“Better Call Saul”) and J. Smith-Cameron (“Succession”), who both lost to Julia Garner (“Ozark”) last year,...

The millennial women-led series is dead. Long live the millennials.
It wasn’t exactly surprising when Freeform’s beloved critically acclaimed “Single Drunk Female” was canceled this month after just two seasons and immediately pulled from Hulu. Sure, Freeform touted the sitcom as the highest-rated original comedy during the New York City Season 2 premiere before the series returned with all new episodes on Hulu in April. But its cancellation is just one of the many reminders that networks don’t invest long-term in women-fronted shows that focus on “messy” millennial women.
While we pour one out for “Single Drunk Female,” it’s best to trace the series back to its roots with Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner’s explosively disruptive HBO series “Girls,” which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. After that massive hit, why has TV abandoned the generation of people who grew up watching “Girls”?

Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Amongst the list of ’90s classics was, of course, Cruel Intentions. The 1999 movie was so well-received that a sequel was set in motion. But Cruel Intentions 2 was really supposed to be a TV show.

The latest Blumhouse film, "Unseen," has a new trailer that just dropped, and it looks like a totally unique offering from the popular horror studio. While Blumhouse is best known for its scary good track record, which includes "Insidious," "The Invisible Man," and "Paranormal Activity," the production company's latest (which also comes via MGM+ and Paramount) is actually a thriller-comedy with a wild high-concept premise.
"Unseen" stars "WandaVision" and "Orange is the New Black" actress Jolene Purdy as Sam, a gas station clerk at a dead-end job at a place called Gator Galore, where her boss seems to be a bullying redneck and she's clearly not having a great time. Enter: Emily ("Dash & Lily" star Midori Francis), a woman who ends up needing Sam's help in a major — and majorly unexpected — way. Emily phones Sam from the woods, where she's being chased by a murderous ex-boyfriend. She's broken her...

The premise was simple enough: A no-nonsense, non-conformist, feminine “guy’s girl” journalist sets out to make a man fall in love with her — all for the sake of a big break at work. When “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” hit theaters on February 7, 2003, the Kate Hudson- and Matthew McConaughey-starring romantic comedy ushered in a new generation of a revived rom-com sub-genre: quippy romances all about female journalists.
In the Donald Petrie film, Andie Anderson (Hudson) half-jokingly pitches the idea of using all the “what not to do” tips of Composure, the Cosmo-esque fastest growing women’s magazine she works at, to prove the opposite: being disinterested and not clingy works better to land a husband, or better yet, find true love. Added A Rational Fear creator/host Dan Ilic:
“Dylan Behan has a brutally satirical eye, and that eye is forced to watch a lot of news… which is why it’s also very swollen, and red. Rather than see a doctor, part TV editor, part cyclops, Dylan Behan, is bringing News Fighters to the A Rational Fear feed.

The last day has drummed up a whirlwind of emotions for Meghann Fahy fans. Mere hours after the 32-year-old actor delivered another rousing performance in "The White Lotus" season two finale, she was excluded from the 2023 Golden Globes nominations announced on Dec. 12. Although the HBO show wound up earning four total nods - three for supporting actors Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, and F. Murray Abraham and a fourth for the series as a whole - Fahy's snub especially stings following her final bow as Daphne Sullivan.
In the sophomore season of "The White Lotus," Fahy portrays the Aperol Spritz-swigging, Pda-showing, edible-consuming, "Ted Lasso"-binging wife to finance bro Cameron (Theo James). On the surface, Daphne's a rich, breezy housewife unaffected by worldly woes - so much so that she can't even recall whether she voted in the last election - but strip away those Pucci bikinis and floral sundresses, and she's much more complex.

Mo Amer in Mo.
Amer’s natural, seemingly effortless knack for connection long has been one of his clearest strengths, whether in his stand-up comedy or in his recurring role on Ramy. In Mo, he proves equally able to dig into the darker, sharper corners. His easy smiles and rambling jokes take on layers of anxiety and sorrow as the character wrestles with drug addiction, generational trauma and the everyday frustrations of trying to scrape by in a country that would prefer to forget he exists. As creator and real-life inspiration for Mo, Amer steeps the entire project in his own perspective and identity — but it’s his performance that ties the whole thing together as he embodies the vibrant, empathetic spirit of the show through his irresistible star turn. — Angie Han

Exclusive: Nikohl Boosheri (The Bold Type) and Ali Fazal (Victoria & Abdul) have been set to lead cast in movie Afghan Dreamers (working title), based on the inspiring true story of the all-girls robotics team from Afghanistan.
The English-language project will chart the story of the heralded program, which was launched by Afghan tech entrepreneur Roya Mahboob in 2017, as a way to help young Afghan women develop their skills in science and technology, despite a highly patriarchal society and the chaotic and often dangerous backdrop of the country’s politics. The team went on to participate in competitions around the world, garner global media attention and meet leading politicians, including former U.S Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Former President Donald Trump intervened to help several team members get visas for a robotics competition in Washington DC and Mahboob was named among Time’s most influential people in the world.
