The kids are the villains in this series
phd_travel14 December 2023
This is a high quality well written family drama with some realistic insights into family relationships. The angle of this series is how parents have to suffer because of their children's problems mainly romantic. Mom is played be K drama's mother to Hallyu Kim Hae Sook and she sure plays long suffering well. The kids really torture her. Firstly there is the ungrateful knocked up single mom daughter who starts off the chain of problems. Boy is she spoiled and ungrateful. She says the most terrible things to her mother. Her youngest brother is the typical whipped young kid wanting to do everything for his waif like underage love. The most interesting relationship is the playboy dentist son played by Ha Seok Jin and his feisty doctor girlfriend played by Oh Yoon Ah. Their relationship features a battle of the sexes that is quite relevant for modern couples.

Then in the older generation there is the stingy aunt and the conflicts she causes with her meanness. Her conflict with her daughter in law and her husband and silly whipped son are a bit stretched out for too long. Also in the older generation is the infertile couple with the needy whiny baby baby calling wife and her husband.

The grandparents feature the interfering controlling grandpa and his long suffering wife. Their quarrel is a comic highlight.

There are some overlong storylines that could have been handled quicker and some repetitive dialog. But in the end this was an insightful series written by a master writer and expertly acted by a team of great actors that most know and love from other shows.

If you can sit through 40 hours of quarrels and family crisis this series is quite good. Just bear with the slow parts. It would be great for adults and children to watch this series to see things from each other's points of view.
