Exclusive: Skydance has closed a deal with Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) to produce and star in The 47 Night Stand, a new film scripted by 4x Emmy nominee Greg Malins.
The project is in the early stages and the logline is being kept under wraps, though it’s described as a fresh and funny take on romance in the tradition of classic favorites.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Kunis for her Orchard Farm Productions, and Ruben Fleischer. Orchard Farm’s Lisa Sterbakov will serve as executive producer, with Carin Sage overseeing the project for Skydance.

Last week, the trailer for director Eli Roth’s long-awaited video game adaptation Borderlands, which is set to reach theatres on August 9th, made its way online – and while talking to Entertainment Weekly about the trailer, Roth revealed that he’s currently writing a horror script with 16-year-old Borderlands cast member Ariana Greenblatt, who plays Tiny Tina in the upcoming movie!
Roth told Entertainment Weekly that Greenblatt “loves horror, and we have a great idea, so we’re writing a movie together. That is an exclusive, nobody knows that. I don’t want to say anything about it yet, but she’s so smart I’m like, ‘Let’s write a movie together, and we’ll produce it together, and I’ll direct it, and you’ll star in it.’” Of course, Roth didn’t give away any details about the story he and Greenblatt are collaborating on. Social media users recently marveled that last month marked 20 years since three modern Christmas favorites — New Line’s Elf, Universal’s Love Actually and Miramax’s Bad Santa — all hit theaters within weeks of each other. Two decades later, you don’t need to feel like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins if you’re among those wondering why studios don’t release holiday theatrical offerings in the way they once did.
Although most Christmas films don’t tend to follow the path of, say, 1990’s Home Alone, which topped the domestic box office for a whopping 12 straight weeks, they had typically been a staple of the release calendar, with a handful of titles hitting theaters annually, as recently as the late 2010s. That list includes such 2016 theatrical offerings as Almost Christmas, Bad Santa 2, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?, followed by 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2, A Bad Moms Christmas and animated...

Pop a bottle of Prosecco and get ready to shake your money-maker because Lionsgate is partnering with STX to develop scripted TV series inspired by Jennifer Lopez’s Hustlers and the raunchy 2016 comedy Bad Moms. The plan to put both projects into development is part of a new distribution deal between STXfilms and Lionsgate, the companies announced on Wednesday.
The Hustlers and Bad Moms TV series projects are in the early stages of development, and there is no word if the original cast or crew members will return for the episodic versions of either property.
Released in 2016, Bad Moms stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn as three overworked and under-appreciated moms pushed beyond their limits. After succumbing to exhaustion, they ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long-overdue freedom, fun, and comedic self-indulgence. A sequel, A Bad Moms Christmas, was released in 2017. Both movies were received well by audiences,...

Scripted TV series based on the Jennifer Lopez film “Hustlers” and the Mila Kunis comedy “Bad Moms” will soon be put into development as part of a new distribution agreement between STXfilms and Lionsgate, the companies announced Wednesday.
STXfilms, which released “Hustlers” from 2019 and “Bad Moms” from 2016 along with its sequel “A Bad Moms Christmas” in 2017, are just two of the 75-library titles under which Lionsgate will now handle marketing and distribution. It also means Lionsgate will theatrically domestically distribute new STXfilms releases.
The first film to be released under the new deal is “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” a thriller starring Daisy Ridley and directed by Neil Burger. Lionsgate will now jointly release the film with Roadside Attractions on October 6.
Nothing is in the works just yet on the “Hustlers” or “Bad Moms” front, and it’s unclear if any of the original cast or crew from either movie will...

In February 2023, Netflix will remove a bunch of movie and TV series from its library,
Netflix UK and Netflix US takes down numerous titles each month without fanfare, meaning that many things on your watchlist could suddenly disappear.
These removals are due to licencing deals coming to an end. Often, the titles make their way back to Netflix in the following year, but sometimes they leave to go to other platforms.
This month sees a selection of Netflix Originals being taken down, also.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed in both Netflix UK and US.

It’s no mystery what audiences were watching on Netflix over the holiday weekend.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery made its way to the top of Netflix’s English-language film chart for the week of December 19 to December 25, after debuting on the streamer two days before Christmas. Rian Johnson‘s comedy sequel notched 82.1M hours viewed in those two days, which Netflix says equates to about 35M households.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio fell to No. 3, as The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari took second place with 25.1M hours viewed. Viewers were certainly in the holiday spirit, as the list was rounded out by mostly Christmas films including How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Bad Moms Christmas, and Falling For Christmas.
As for the TV side of things, Emily in Paris Season 3 debuted on December 21 and has collected 117.6M hours viewed, making it No. 2 on the U.S. English-language chart.

Justin Hartley is getting back into the Christmas spirit. After crushing it as Kevin Pearson in the critically-acclaimed TV series “This Is Us”, the 45-year-old actor can next be seen in the Netflix film, “The Noel Diary”. Based on the novel of the same name, “The Noel Diary” marks Hartley’s second holiday-themed movie after “A Bad Moms Christmas”.
“I love the idea of families coming together and sitting down and watching Christmas movies,” Hartley tells Et Canada. “Every single year, I watch “Christmas Vacation”. I love to watch “A Christmas Carol”, “A Christmas Story” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”. These are movies that I have seen hundreds of times. I have always been a fan of that Christmas genre.”

Kathryn Hahn has joined the cast of Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out 2,” an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
The actress, who most recently starred in the hit Disney+ series “WandaVision,” will join Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista and Janelle Monáe in the film.
The casting comes two months after Johnson signed a $400 million-plus deal with Netflix to write and direct two sequels to the Oscar-nominated murder mystery film, with Craig returning as ace detective Benoit Blanc. Johnson will also produce with partner Ram Bergman, with shooting set to begin this summer in Greece.
The deal is one of the largest for a streamer in history, and it provides Netflix a franchise as competition in the streaming space has increased dramatically over the last few months.

Ariana Greenblatt will play Tiny Tina, the teenage explosives expert, in Eli Roth’s adaptation of the video game phenomenon “Borderlands.” She joins a cast of heavyhitters and A-listers that includes Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis and Jack Black as Claptrap.
The history of movie versions of video games can be a bit spotty — “Sonic the Hedgehog” was a hit, as was “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” but there are also lots of duds in the “Super Mario Brothers” and “Assassins Creed” vein. But there’s a reason that “Borderlands” is hotly anticipated. It’s one of the world’s most successful video game franchises, with more than 68 million units sold worldwide, including over 24 million units of “Borderlands 2” and 12 million units sold for “Borderlands 3.”

February may be the shortest month, but that doesn’t mean streaming services can ignore their duty to entertain us at all times. In that mission, Netflix is making a decent effort in February 2021. This isn’t the most jam-packed month the major streamer has trotted out just yet but there are plenty of new originals to get the job done.
Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb. 19.

STXfilms has acquired global rights to Queenpins, a comedy that reteams The Good Place and Veronica Mars stars Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The movie, about the largest coupon counterfeit scam in US history, also reunites STX with Bad Moms franchise star Bell, and it puts the studio in possession of another female-driven property which they’ve had a streak with at the box office with Bad Moms, A Bad Moms Christmas, I Feel Pretty Hustlers collectively making $566.5M worldwide. The pic, written and directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, centers on a suburban housewife, who is fed up with being dismissed and overlooked by her husband and society. She decides to take back control of her life by starting an illegal coupon club. Her creation ends up scamming millions of dollars from big food companies while delivering deals to millions of fellow coupon clippers. Vince Vaughn and Paul Walter Hauser will also star.

At long last, Netflix subscribers will be able to see which of the streaming service’s series and films are getting the most traction. The streaming service is adding a “Top 10” row to its homepage, which will be updated every day to note the most popular titles within the subscriber’s country.
Netflix announced the addition in a blog post on the company’s website Monday. Subscribers will be able to sort the list by overall Top 10 Netflix titles, the streaming service’s 10 most popular television series, and its 10 most popular films. It was a record weekend for Focus Features that saw Downton Abbey not only top the weekend box office, but it became the studio's largest opener ever, topping $30 million. The “Bad Moms” cinematic universe continues to grow.
STX Films is revisiting its parental-figures-who-behave-poorly franchise with “Bad Moms’ Moms.” The film will presumably focus on the grandmother characters who were first introduced in 2017’s “A Bad Moms Christmas,” and who were played by Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines. The three women will reprise their roles.
The series of films started with the 2016 hit “Bad Moms,” an unexpected summer box office success that grossed more than $180 million on a $22 million budget. Stx made the announcement during its presentation at CinemaCon, an annual exhibition industry trade show.
In announcing “Bad Moms’ Moms,” STX Films chief Adam Fogelson called the movie, “A whole new adventure that is attracting all sorts of great talent.”
At one point, STX Films had toyed with making a “Bad Dads” film, but that appears to have been put on the back burner. There were also reports...
