Impressive second movie by the Avaz brothers
malthenielsen28 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Very good movie. The first half has really a good pace of the story, and nearly all events surprise/shock you. There's so many things happening, and you barely have time to process a very dramatic scene before the next one hits you. It all fits beatifully together, and it's fairly amazing how you can pack that much content into so few minutes. It's even got some very decent action scenes, I didn't excpect that in a family drama.

Actors all doing a great job, especially the two children actors. Solid work from all the seasoned adult actors. I'm impressed also with the supporting actors, for instance the doctor and the lawyers. Also with the almost-lover - she had to strike a fine balance between being credible as a romantic interest but not coming across as so sympathetic that you'd want the hero to leave his family for her. So if she is too sympathetic, that's bad, and if she is too little sympathetic, that's also bad, since then it would not be credible Leo was attracted to her. She hit the balance perfectly.

The reason I'm giving this only 7 stars and not more is that there is a weak part in the movie - the trial part. It felt like it just didn¨t fit in with the rest of the movie, and the script quality seemed to drop below the high standard of the rest of the movie, with even a goofy line or two - the rest of the movie has great dialogue. Yes, there was buildup to a conflict, but it just didn't feel right that out of nowhere we were in a court room. Perhaps the trial part was not in the original manuscript, and was put in as filler material, maybe because some other ideas were scrapped?

Anyway, there are so many good things in this movie that I highly recommend it. You could hear people crying all over the cinema. You don't see that so often.

A heavy movie
mmuggi7 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Collision is the brothers Avaz's second feature film, and due to the great success of their first feature film, this time they got a proper bag of money to make this film with. This can be seen, because it is an upper class family from Aarhus, which is followed here. There are plenty of shots in a large mansion, as well as on a drilling platform. The film is generally nice to watch.

However, the film is not quite perfect. Julie Christensen is very unbelievable in her role, and Tommy Kenter plays a very one-dimensional, cold and power-hungry person who could well have been more nuanced. Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Cecilie Stenpil and even Karla Avez play solidly.

The subjects are heavy, but the pace of the film is at times uneven, and there are not always natural transitions.

In short, it is a very heavy, captivating film, with at times somewhat unnatural transitions and lack of natural dialogue.

Powerful film
Sunlover0204825 January 2020
Wow...just walked out of screening at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, with a tight stomach and tears in my eyes. The acting leads (Nikolaj Lie Kaas, as Leo) and Cecille Stenspil, as Olivia) and supporting leads (especially the young daughter Liv) all delivered strong performances in this intense drama packed with relationship challenges and tragedies on several levels. I smiled, I grimaced, I cried...and I wished for some peace in these lives experiencing hope, sadness, hurt, and loss...

Rubbish

2 Stars because there are some decent actors. A shame that they ended up wasting their time on a poorly directed, incoherent, unrealistic story packed with tragedies in an effort to make it overly sad.

Men have lost their rights in Denmark
nickpedersen11 March 2020
Its a powerfull movie, that from time to time bring out some tears. It also brings out anger! It really shows what Denmark has become with the lack of human rights when it comes to divorce/breaking up. A few things could have been better. At times it feels rushed. I could use some more building up. But the movie is well made, and I can recommend you to see it :-)

Entertaining drama with strong Lie Kaas
dakjets12 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A film with Denmarks best actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas can hardly go wrong. Not in this family drama either. This film deals with the conflicts in the wave after a separation, and high emotions rise to an unpleasent level. Lie Kaas is perfect cast as a family man who are in the process of loosing the most valuable he has; contact with his daughter. The film gives also an insight into how different those in the network reacts, with devastating results. It also shows how the system works against a loving father who fights for his rights. This is a strong drama, but without the strong cast it would not have been so good, the script / story does not feel so new . We have seen this kind of drama on film before. It's the acting that lifts this to a film I can recommend.

What an awful movie!!
jrigler-5214518 June 2022
With the exception of Cecil, all the characters in this stupid movie are bad people. So when bad things happen to them, we don't really care. A total waste of time.

Danish Diamond
diezwillinge15 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The saddest movie ever! But amongst our favourites now. This movie deserves more attention, especially international.

The family Wilke Mølgaard have to manage deep loss and grief. There was not a dry eye left when Leo fights for his daughter with everything he has or when he was comforted by his father. The relationship between them delivers motivation and is lovely to watch.

Nevertheless is Leo dragged into a swamp of injustice, malicious prosecution, vigilantism and vanity.

At the end it seems that the odds are in Leos favour. So we didn't bargain on such a "collision-able" ending! It hits you like a hammerfist and leave yourself slack-jawed in front of the TV.

We really appreciate Nikolaj Lie Kaas' acting. He brings so much strong expression to his characters and belongs to the few sort of artists who can carry a story and knock of the audiences socks just by using the language of his impressive eyes and facial play. Very powerful. He has this chameleonic ability to inhabit the most miscellaneous roles. A true standout man and a beacon of light in this business.

And not to forget all the other great performances from Cecilie Stenspil, Karla Avaz, Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt, Nicolas Bro, Henning Jensen...etc.

A riviting drama full of heartache, tears, emotions and beautiful music, shot in front of a magnificent backdrop. A get-together of incredibly skilled movie visionaries took this genre to new heights.

To sum up in two words: Danish Diamond!
