Why...
markogabor5 October 2018
This garbage is on a special new level of the horrible-movie-scale. The idea of this... something... should have been forgotten on that tired brainstorming when someone said: "lets make a musical, because musicals are cool." Well, not. Musical is a hard genre, and obviously the filmmakers have no clue about it. I really don't care about the political side. The Hungarian national movie foundation produce some very good ones. I don't know what happened here.

A mixture of anger, disbelief, and second hand embarrassment.
Kitahito9 August 2021
Yes, please do waste taxpayers' money on producing a pile of celluloid waste that would have been unbearably embarrassing for everyone even 20 years ago! Go ahead and pollute our culture further with such filth, you haven't managed to kick people's good taste deep enough yet after all! An unimaginative, clichéd, badly acted, pile of nonsense built from stolen songs, abysmal dance choreography and infantile "jokes". I wanna congratulate everyone who contributed to the creation of this audiovisual monstrocity! Well done, people! Art at its finest! Entertainment multiplied by infinity! Seriously, pat each other on the shoulder, give yourself a big warm hug, because you will never ever get any recognition from anyone else...

Disgusting
plevai17 August 2017
Overused jokes and schemes, obvious plot and a disgustingly high (€3.3M) production cost funded by Hungarian taxpayers. At least give the proles some entertainment if they paid so much for it! :) The thing is: not one person in my direct and indirect vicinity has liked the movie. Only the biggest fans of the current gov't rave on about this less-than-mediocre something. Something, cause I wouldn't call it a movie.

The best thing about Pappa Pia is...
theelf-893-70756130 December 2017
... the fact most people have no chance to see it. You see all those votes from the United States? They probably haven't seen the movie, as it isn't released in United States. If by the virtue of some extreme misfortune you would see it, it wouldn't be a terrible bad movie. A low budget romantic comedy without good story, direction or any added value, but at least it has decent music from the past.

Low budget for the world, but high budget for Hungary. So he got our best actors and actresses, and some of the music is good. And you don't expect much from this genre, so it can't fail miserably, right? Well... At the theaters it failed to make enough income, it wasn't interesting for some viewers.

The critics didn't like it. And quite a few people pointed out: In Hungary we have laws deciding which movies can get to the big screen. The big silver screen is for movies sponsored by an organization led by Andy Vajna.

So directors, writers, etc. who have several awards behind them and make a film about important events, their important and good films can't get to theaters. Yet Andy can "rule them all" with a poorly hacked together job, and he can spend budget that is record high for our movie industry for such soulless acts.

And when it would get under 3 stars, it can be rated by people who had 0 chance to see it, because it wasn't shown in the country where they live to fix it all.

Is it worse as a movie than a normal 5 star romantic comedy? No, it isn't. It is the same low budget, low value, uninteresting job. But once you know how it was made, how you have reasons (political or otherwise) to be angry and hate it when you see it, it will feel like the worst movie the world. And for that it deserves the 1 star rating.

Just horrible!

It's just horrible! Why is the IMDb score so high? Maybe Timea Vajna also gave a maximum point ??

Poor storyline, poor acting. I don't even want to waste any more time to review it, this movie already owes me hours.

Piece of overplayed nothing
faith-5527 June 2020
I don't understand who is giving money for such amateur and talentless people?! Typical Hungarian piece if sh... there are 2 type of Hungarian films. None of them is watchable. I am over 40 and I saw only about 3 good Hungarian movies, but this one is one of the worst ever. 1st type is - when the movie is so sad that you gonna kill yourself while watching it 2nd type is this - when everything is overplayed, non realistic, trying to do Hollywood style, but totally miss it, just extremely embarrassing.

Please, never let the director do a movie again! Please, never let these talentless people play anything ever! Please!

Funny

It is a funny Hungarian film. If you want to see a film with some good actors, nice music from the 70's and 80's, that is your movie. It is don't want to be more, what it is: a nice, easy, romantic movie. You can watch it with your girlfriend or with friends. Good music, some jokes, good dances, and the beautiful Budapest. It is so sad, when people always talk about politics, money, government etc. It is just a film, enjoy it!

It was enjoyable
Movie4K13 August 2019
It was a good film, regretfully only for Hungarians, who can understand the lyrics from the soundtrack. The movie has also a love story, and the director of the cinematography made a good work. The title is dedicted from the world famous Mamma Mia (Pia - means a drink in Hungarian), using evergreens from ABBA. For me, this film was as good as the Mamma Mia.

Don't believe the naysayers
szekeresgyula3 May 2021
Although I am not a fan of this type of musicals, this one here is so much fun . The charachters are lively and loveable, the songs are catchy and there is.a compelling flow to the whole movie that cannot let you go and makes you stay, let alone the enjoyable dialogues. A very heartfelt treat that is definitely worth a shot.

my fav hungarian movie i have seen so far!!!
lucikapannika14 April 2021
It's nothing special or groundbreaking, but there is something in this movie that made me instantly fall in love with it<3 my absolutly fav things about it is definitely the RETRO MUSIC!!! Their love is such adorable and it proves that the 'RIGHT PERSON, WRONG TIME' thing can be true... mara is one of the prettiest names i have ever heard!!! I also adore the family and friends relationships in this rom-com too. The only thing i don't like about this film is the outfits and the plot could be a little bit more interesting too.

P. S: minden nap nyár.

Zene nélkül mit érek én.

Csajozós medley.

Induljon a banzáj.

Minden nap nyár.
