David Fincher won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 1995 for his direction of "Love is Strong." He won exactly ten years later for Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z: Suit & Tie (2013).
In 1995, The Rolling Stones won two Grammy Awards for Best Music Video (for "Love is Strong") and Best Rock Album (for 1994's Voodoo Lounge on which "Love is Strong" appears) marking their first ever Grammy wins despite being one of the most influential and popular music groups over the preceding 30 years. They did not win another Grammy until 23 years later for their 2018 blues album "Blue & Lonesome."
"Love is Strong" is one of the music video projects David Fincher worked on after retreating from feature film following his unpleasant experience directing his first film Alien 3 (1992). It was Fincher's final music video project before being convinced to return to directing feature films, starting with Se7en (1995).
Written by Mick Jagger and Mick Jagger, and produced by Don Was, the song features Jagger on lead vocals, harmonica and maracas, Richards and Ronnie Wood on electric and acoustic guitars and backing vocals, newcomer to the band Darryl Jones on bass guitar, Charlie Watts on drums, and Bernard Fowler and Ivan Neville on backing vocals.
