Les Yeux Sans Visage..."Eyes Without a Face" that one classic video of frequent close-up shots of Billy Idol singing in all contrast to the black background. A powerfully
charged rock song filled with lyricism gets this non conceptual clip from David Mallet (a creative mind behind many Queen clips from the period).
The song is perfect, heavily played still today but the clip is too mysterious, too 80-ish for its own sake - yeah, it's the times I know but some videos survived from corny elements and are more enthusiastic to watch. Idol and Steve Stevens performance of the song in key moments such as the solo act make it all rock n'roll and cool to watch. So what's to admire with all that? Here's a video that doesn't cast a shadow to eclipse the power of the music, it sells in a non distractive way. Granted success for the artist, though Idol had some painful moments while filming the clip, a problem with his eyes (can't remember if it was some eyedrops used to create an effect or some material used during the shooting - not fond memories for him. 8/10
