Great Episode
I_Guess_Im_Demons15 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fun mysterious plot. Anyone else concerned about Sam having CTE? He's been hit in the head roughly 23 times since season 12's beginning. Enough for Dean to even mention it on screen. That giant boy needs an ice pack and a CAT scan I feel like.

Not all cheesy is bad....
blackmagpie-623682 May 2018
I read the reviews for this episode and do generally agree with them, the good ones and the bad ones, there is a lot of cheese (deliberate I believe) HOWEVER what I do love about this episode is that by using the cheesy bits the way it does, this episode manages to focus on the brothers again and their quest. I do love the little surprising twists, turns and decisions that lead the boys to their ultimate goal, the blood of the most holy man.

Enjoying a change of pace!

Less magic, more detective, and Sam and Dean in film noir setting. Holy Maltese Falcon! Yeah it's not the same demon blood bath, but the background music is perfecto and the camera shots are straight out a Sidney Greenstreet/Humphrey Bogart movie. Kids, be warned, this isn't a Rock'em Sock'em robots episode.

This reminds me of Harry Stephen Keeler-of all things!
CubsandCulture19 July 2021
I highly doubt that the writers were intending this parallel but this episode's interlocking and semi-random plot reminds me of the works of Harry Stephen Keeler. Keeler was a cult mystery and sci-fi author from the 20's-30's who's stories always had a "webwork" plot-i.e. A plot built on interlocking coincidences. This episode is never quite as absurd as Keeler's works are but it is close. As such it is fun and funny. There's a looseness to the proceedings that makes this entertaining to a large degree.

The writers probably intended to send-up film noir, i.e. The Maltese Falcon. In that way they largely succeed. This is such a offbeat and bizarre episode in the show's run. My fondness for it might be because of my interest in Keeler but I think most others would get a kick out of its humor and randomness.

What did I just watch?
Kingslaay11 March 2018
Supernatural is easily one of my favourite shows. It has elements that make it enduring and this season has been pretty decent.

However this episode was a combination of weird and disappointing. Supernatural has forged its own identity within the sci-fi genre so why is it getting mixed up with different genres at the same time. A cross over can work very well if done right but in this instance it was all over the place. You had organised crime and detective related scenarios warped into one episode. What made it worse was the random operatic music playing during the fight scene. Not sure what they were trying to achieve besides filling up their episode count.

The show has produced some really different episodes with flair and style but still stuck to their guns and roots. Now I hear there is a Scooby Doo episode coming up? This show is venturing off into uncharted waters. Lets 'pray' it has some kickass episodes towards the end.

Top 4 worst episodes in Supernatural history
rachelmartin10129 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I am a true die-hard Supernatural fan, have seen every episode since the first and I can honestly say I was embarrassed watching A Most Holy Man. Not only for myself because I watched it in its entirety (true waste of an hour) but for the writers of the horrific dialogue, hokey story line, cheesy detective film noiresque vibe and one of the worst fight scenes (with crazy spiritual operatic song playing) I have ever seen. Really hope the Scooby Doo episode doesn't stink!

Too slow and not fitting with Supernatural
charleystratton4 April 2022
I like what they tried to do but it sticks out like a sore thumb. Storyline not interesting enough and characters cheesey but not in a good way. If binge watching this could definitely be skipped!

Innacurate and insulting of another country's language and culture
gypsy_guitar20 June 2018
As i watched this episode, things kept annoying me to the point where i feel i need to complain. I am a MASSIVE fan of the show and have watched/ bought every series since the beginning. The inaccuracy of this episode, and the lack of bother to research and be respectful of another country has annoyed me though.

This episode opens with a scene of Malta, then shows a bunch of nuns, which are most certainly not Maltese, as they havent got the right colourings, or nuns outfit. Then they come across a priest, who, from his looks and accent , also is most clearly not Maltese. I'm annoyed, but i think, hey, its ok, he is playing a foreign priest living in Malta. Then they open his wallet to show his name is 'Camilleri', which is a VERY common, and specifically Maltese surname. This annoys me, but again, i think, ok , so he has a Maltese father, a foreign mother, was born abroad, then returns to Malta when he is much older, and he already has foreign accent. Then Sam goes on to find info on the net that says the priest was born in Malta and lived there all his life, to Maltese parents, etc.

I am half Maltese, and lived there half my life. This guy has a very clearly NOT Maltese accent. It makes a mockery out of our language, accents, and is ridiculous. I dont even know where this guy is from, but its soooooooo insulting that you not only couldn't find a Maltese person to play the part, but didn't even try to sort his back story, to explain that he was a foreigner living in Malta. You made him out to be Maltese. How would you like it, if they shot a program in Malta, and couldn't find a suitable American to play a part, so they got a Canadian to play it, or even an Australian, and tried to pass them off as American?> He speaks an accent that is like a cross between italian and french, and even says 'mon dieu' at one point which is clearly french.

I'm also half English, and it's bad enough that all you american programs/films portray british ppl with ridiculous accents. Apparently you think all Brits speak the 'queens English, with pokers up our backsides. No one SPEAKS like that. The queen literally has her own accent! Ketch speaks in an accent that is simply ridiculous. There is no way he speaks like that in real life. Even if he DOES have a posh accent, i guarantee he puts it on tenfold on the program. No person alive speaks like that. i have lived all over the uk, and have never come across anyone who actually speaks the way american programs portray us. We have different accents allover the uk, but no one speaks like that. We are not a bunch of posh stiffs in suits drinking tea and saying 'jolly good chap' Try going to Manchester, Liverpool, London and maybe you would educate yourselves on how genuine Brits are, and portray them correctly in films/programs.

So f****** boring
MKUltraViolet3 May 2020
I wish I could take back the 42 minutes that I wasted watching this episode.

I love Supernatural but my god, this has got to be one of the most dull episodes they've ever made. "Bugs" was more interesting than this episode.

Spy thing doesn't work
shwetafabm5 August 2020
S12 was a mess, the plot was awful, it was very clear there was a spy and action genre thing going and fine it made sense, it failed in its execution terribly so what is with this episode and the british guy and the theives and the nonsense. It's not that this is supernatural and the genre is shifting, clearly the problem is that they don't do it even remotely well enough. The episode was a bore. It was apparent how they would get the blood. The whole underlying issue with mo apocalypse mo monsters is fine i suppose but i'm tired.

Good lord this stinks
tec80529 March 2018
When the best thing I can think of is "thankfully it isn't a chick-spinoff episode" that doesn't really say much. The boys don't care, the writer didn't care, I'm not sure what the plan was, who they were trying to please. I've been watching longer than my 12 year old has been alive. Please go back to when the show was exciting.
