A very exciting and inspiring clip
Can I honestly say this is Pet Shop Boys most famous song of all time? I think so. It's like it's everywhere you can hear it.
And thanks to this undeniably great video the song is even more famous. Bruce Weber made a clip that certainly impressed viewers back in the day, it still amazes me that it got made and I never heard about censorship, blocking or the usual late night schedule thing (but I guess it got that, certainly). Why? Well, Weber captures a nude male model, shown from behind, and there's also a young couple drenched in a bubble bath suggesting they're making love. Very exicting stuff along with the model parade of gorgeous guys and pretty girls inside of a mansion, all filmed in stylish black-and-white, very natural of Weber's famous compositions as evidenced by his 1980's works where he photographed countless celebrities over the years and also made the amazing documentary "Let's Get Lost" about Jazz legend Chet Baker.
I don't care much about the song, in fact it actually makes me feel bored. It simply doesn't make the cut for me. BUT, the video has something appealing, fresh, unique for its time I get the sense that it's actually original if considered how music videos were back in the day, mostly with artists performing the song or some storyline involved. Here, with a song that talks about the freedom and the pleasures of youth, about not being bored and enjoy the life one has at the time and the images presented of people having fun, dancing around, laughing, making love reflects the song's meaning and intention in a very cool way. Weber's cinematography makes it all more interesting, appealing and full of life.
It's a highly exciting music video that never fails to impress me. 8/10.
