2220) A Night at Club Zenos 2019 Short Sci-Fi Comedy, November, 2020
Jack (Barnaby Chambers) and his friend Ben (Ryan Wichert) are drinking beer in a tavern in Prague. When Jack tries to smoke, Ben offers him the nicotine gum instead. When some girls are laughing in the corner, Ben nearly breaks down in tears. Jack loudly states that it is girls like them who put Ben is such a miserable state. Then he advised Ben that he cannot continue crying in public. Ben wants to call his ex-girlfriend Sam, but Jack has picked his pocket of his phone and wants Ben to forget about his ex. Instead, he offers that it is their last night in Prague and they ought to make it an interesting one.
Jack is grabbing a smoke outside and continuing to tell Ben to forget Sam, when Ben disappears. Jack sees an advertisement for Club Zenos with a photo of people dancing, one of which looks like Sam (Amy Ginsburg Harvey). On his way to the club, a man stumbles into Jack. A woman with the man explains that he is just a bit drunk and she will help him get back on his feet. Jack continues into the club where shots of alcohol are being served in quantity. Ben has reached the club first and has just found Sam who is taking a selfie while about to consume a shot. Ben pleads for another chance with Sam, but Sam harshly reject him telling him she dated him out of pure pity. He grabs two shots from a waitress and proposes a toast to a fresh start. Another drunk slams into Jack spilling his drink on his shirt. Life before, a woman helps him up explaining that he is a little drunk and they will help him get back on his feet and a bouncer carries him off grabbing his throat. Jack inspects the shot and finds a foreign object mixed in the alcohol. He advises Ben not to drink, but he has just downed the shot. Jack hurries Ben to the bathroom. In a similar fashion, Ben is grabbed with the same explanation. They also grab Jack who punches his way free. Face to face with one of the bouncers, tentacles escape when the bouncer opens his mouth. Jack is terrified as the bouncer tries to force feed him one of the suspect shots. Just as his mouth is forced open, he is saved by Sam who coldcocks one of the bouncers on the back of the head. A fight ensues and Sam warns Jack not to drink anything. Sam incapacitates a couple other bouncers, while one has Jack by the throat again trying to force him to drink a shot. When the fighting ceases, Sam asks the whereabouts of Ben. A woman dressed in black with a thick accent tells her Ben is a little drunk and they are helping him get back on his feet. Sam pulls out identification and reveals herself as Agent Frost by the authority of the multidimensional and planetary immigration department. She is placing the force that stands before she and Jack under arrest. Sam demands that they exist their human hosts and lay still on the floor. The woman refuses and promises only to tear off her and Jacks legs. Sam throws a device creating a small explosion. The woman in black declares that Sam and Jack are the last two free humans and there is nowhere to hide. When Sam and Jack are alone, Sam learns that Ben drank a Scarabarian, an alien class parasite that passes larva through the drinks. Jack tries to smoke a cigarette. Sam insists Jack find his nicotine gum. Jack inquires about Sam's status as an agent and learns she has only been on the job a couple of months. Sam changes her clothes and tells Jack that this is precisely the reason she broke up with Ben, to protect him from situations like they are in. Suddenly they are approached by one of the henchmen, but he fails to see them even though they are standing in plain view. Sam has activated a point light defractor device which makes them momentarily invisible. Sam reveals that Central Command has an Orbital Organic Matter Laser pointed at the coordinates of the clubs. She uses this information with Jack holding the trigger button to attempt to free Ben. Sam demands that the alien inside Ben release him and surrender to the MPID. The Ben alien tries to bargain with Jack telling him he will surrender Ben if Jack gives him Sam and the button. The alien questions why Jack is helping Sam. Sam say it is because he invaded earth, but the alien counters that it is really to save Ben. The alien offers to sweeten the deal by wiping Ben's mind of any memory of Sam. The alien presupposes they have a deal and says they should drink on it. He says Agent Frost can go first and offers her the shot laced with the alien parasite. Sam tries to reason with Jack, but Jack seems willing to make a deal with the alien. Some of the alien henchmen grab Sam as she tries to convince Jack to give her the trigger button. Jack gives the alien a button, but it is not the trigger to the laser, Jack grabs Ben and the three of them make a run for it. Outside, Jack tells Sam to take Ben and fire the laser as he attempts to lock the aliens inside the club. The laser fires electrifying the building and throwing Jack to the sidewalk. Sam rushes up to his aid. After she helps Jack to his feet, the club is quiet. Jack asks if Ben will be okay. Sam explains with the hivemind gone, the drone in Ben should be dead and that he is unlikely to remember any part of the incident. Ben, however, leads to his feet. The hivemind is still inside him. He reveals himself to be the overlord of the alien invasion, hiding in a least obvious place. Jack tries to beat the alien out of Ben, but Sam stops him. The alien questions why Jack has all this rage. Alien Ben taunts Jack that the rage is because Ben abandon Jack. Jack attacks the alien again. Sam stop him again. Jack asks Sam if there is anyway to get the alien out of him. Sam replies she saw it done once before but the host died in the process. With Ben's body battered, Jack volunteers to be the new alien host. Jack asks, "Do you just pop in my mouth then?" The alien grabs Jack and presses his mouth against Jacks. Jack catches the alien larva in his teeth. When Sam asks how, Jack gives her the remaining nicotine gum. Jacks ask Sam what they should tell Ben. Sam replies vaguely to just tell Ben what he needs to hear. Suddenly there is a flash of light and Sam disappears. Jack revives Ben who is laying on the street. Bens asks what happened after he took that shot. Jack tells him he behaved as a complete ass. Ben asks for Sam's whereabouts and still expresses his sense of loss for their breakup. Jack offers to talk to Ben about it at breakfast. Ben asks what happened to the idea not to talk about Sam. Jack says that was a shit plan anyway. Jack helps Ben as he wobbles down the street.
