Kate Mulvany.
Playing a Nazi-hunting nun opposite Al Pacino in the Amazon Prime series Hunters in New York, Kate Mulvany occasionally had to pinch herself.
In the 1970s-set series based on real events she plays Sister Harriet, a kick-ass nun and former MI6 spy, whom she laughingly refers to as “James Bond in a habit.”
Harriet joins Pacino’s Meyer Offerman, a Polish-Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor who recruits and leads the Hunters.
The 10-part series created by David Weil and produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment ended on what she describes as a jaw-dropping moment after rolling waves of revelations.
But for the pandemic, a decision on a renewal was expected earlier this year and Mulvany and her husband Hamish Michael had planned to move back to New York this month.
That, of course, is on hold, but she is optimistic of a second season,...

Happily that changed when she was cast as an Army captain who suspects the death of her husband in Afghanistan was covered up in the Foxtel/Goalpost Pictures’ drama Fighting Season.
Now she is on screen in Foxtel/Lingo Pictures’ miniseries Lambs of God as Frankie, the sister of Father Ignatius (Sam Reid), who is kidnapped by nuns played by Ann Dowd, Jessica Barden and Essie Davis.

Against an early-19th century colonial Australia backdrop, director Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale showcases a harrowing tale of revenge.
The Nightingale is Jennifer Kent’s anticipated written/directorial follow-up to her 2014 feature debut, The Babadook, a surprisingly-symbolic horror offering that uses the conventionally frightening specter of a top-hat-touting monster for a rather unconventional depiction of a maternal element of the human condition.
The film, which debuted at the Venice International Film Festival back in September 2018, and was reviewed right here on Den of Geek back in February after its Sundance screening, will finally see a proper release this summer, serving as a prospective buzz-generating vehicle for its star, Italian actress Aisling Franciosi, who amongst notable TV runs, is best known from her Game of Thrones flashback role as Westeros’ Helen of Troy herself, Lyanna Stark.

Cjz MD Nick Murray and CEO Matt Campbell’s observations on the shortage of top-class TV writers in light of the continuing talent drain overseas have triggered a lively industry debate.
“For a network and a production house it is the greatest struggle to find writers in this country at the moment as they get sucked up into the Us and UK,” Campbell told If. “Everyone is after the same people. We are having to look far and wide for writers.”
There is general agreement that it is tough for emerging writers to get enough screen credits to establish themselves. While the ABC and some production companies are mentoring writers there are no ready solutions.
Some creatives say there are plenty of skilled writers but networks and producers are often reluctant to back new talent.

Jessica McNamee stars in Heath Davis’ ‘Locusts’.
Far fewer directors in Australia get the chance to make their second feature, or more, than the global average.
According to a new, ground-breaking study of worldwide trends by UK analyst Stephen Follows, while 63.5 per cent of directors have one feature film credit, 36.5 per cent made a second feature.
Just 8.6 per cent directed more than five and only 0.1 per cent have more than 20 feature credits.
By comparison, Screen Australia’s most recent research found 62 per cent of directors had one credit in the five years to June 2017 and 44 of the 144 surveyed – 19 per cent – had made a second feature.
Broken down by gender, that equated to 42 male directors (22 per cent) and just two women (6 per cent). Some 8 per cent had three credits, 4 per cent had four and 7 per cent had 5-plus.

Ewen Leslie and Jenna Coleman in ‘The Cry’ (Photo: BBC)
Playing a guy whose baby son is abducted in the BBC/ABC psychological drama The Cry directed by Glendyn Ivin was one of the most challenging roles in Ewen Leslie’s illustrious career.
The actor plays Alistair, an Australian political adviser working for the British Labour Party, who returns home with his wife Joanna (Doctor Who and Victoria’s Jenna Coleman) and infant.
En route to a small coastal town to see Alistair’s mother Elizabeth (Stella Gonet), the baby vanishes from their car, compounding the anguish for Alistair who is fighting for custody of his daughter Chloe (Markella Kavenagh) from an earlier marriage to Alexandra (Asher Keddie).
Based on Australian author Helen FitzGerald’s eponymous 2013 novel and scripted by Jacquelin Perske, the series will premiere next Sunday at 9pm on BBC1. The ABC is yet to reveal the air date.

If you've been waiting for Game of Thrones hottie Khal Drogo to get his own movie, then you're in luck. The gorgeous Jason Momoa will be starring as Atlantean hero Arthur Curry in the upcoming Aquaman movie, set to premiere at the end of this year. Better yet, the film will be an origin movie, showing young Arthur as a nine-year-old (to be played by Kaan Guldur) and a 13-year-old (to be played by Otis Dhanji). Not only were these mini Momoas perfectly cast, the two young Australian actors are already seasoned performers themselves.
Guldur (above) just finished filming Fighting Season, a six-part Australian drama mini-series in which Guldur stars as Callum Collins. Guldur also lent his voice to The Lego Ninjago Movie and appeared in a short film called Red Ink. Aquaman will be Guldur's first foray into DC's live action universe, as well as his first major live-action film.
