slow building

It took me a long time to get around to watching this Taiwanese version of the same drama I have seen as Korean and Japanese versions. The first one I watched was called Playful Kiss (K-drama) and the Japanese version is called Mischievous Kiss. Miss in Kiss is an odd title, which I don't get. The poster you see on Netflix shows the 2 main characters, but it is such a dorky looking shot. You would think the poster would go more out of its way to make them look better. They are better looking than that.

This is a story that builds up over 6 years. A high school girl has a crush on the class genius. He seems very aloof and rejects her as she tries to hand a letter of confession to him. Then, a while later, her home is destroyed in a hurricane and she ends up living with the genius and his family, along with her dad.

The mother of the genius loves this girl and wants her son to marry her before he is 20. The mother got a fortune read when he was a baby and was told he would become a monk if he didn't marry by the age of 20.

Each episode is up or down. The genius is coming of age trying to find what his passion is. He can do anything with his smarts. Other people are trying to get him to go into this or that field.

The girl never wavers for her feelings for him. If he is nice to her, she is thrilled. If he is mean to her or is with another girl, she is miserable.

One thing that got on my nerves throughout is the girl's whiny, baby voice. Every time she screws up, she acts like a baby. That said, I did watch the whole thing.

The Japanese version has a sequel called Mischievous Kiss in Tokyo. I haven't seen that but I might soon.

Please make a season 2

I love this Taiwanese show so much that I've been hoping there would be a season 2. I fell in love with it instantly the first time I watched it. It keeps me wondering what will and us going to happen next. I feel that a season 2 of Miss in Kiss will help explain it. Please make a season 2 of this show.

Awful male and female lead characters
timbiekf7 March 2023
Ugh. I kept thinking this would get better and it never did. The female lead is legitimately dumb and immature. She never grows a spine or redeems herself. The male lead is repeatedly awful to her, rejecting her multiple times, but she just keeps following him around like an inept stalker. The only times the male lead shows any interest is when he forces a kiss and then later kisses her while she's sleeping. Meanwhile a guy who's actually nice is in love with the female lead and is constantly being rejected. The side characters are too underdeveloped to alleviate the awfulness of the main characters.
