Thank you, Homeland!
85122227 April 2020
Greetings from Lithuania.

Today I'm sad and happy - sad because probably my favorite show of all time has ended - but happy that it did end on a very a high note. There were many good shows that were ruined at the end, or never even did have a proper ending, well "Homeland" is a great exception - the finale as well as last season were superb in ever possible way. 8 seasons, 96 episodes and almost 10 years - this is the only show i watched religiously every week - and that says a lot today in a overcrowded market of great series.

I won't spoil anything about the ending, just to say that i liked it very much. It was plausible, intense, surprising (yet realistic!), very involving and emotional. I did not see that outcome, but was really happy of how things turned out at the end.

Overall, "Homeland" wasn't perfect in its 10 years run, but even "Breaking Bad" had its weaker moments. But even in those, i liked "Homeland" as a whole. And on its highest moments, this show scored home runs like no other. Superbly intelligently written throughout, amazingly acted by Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin and then F. Murray Abraham, Rupert Friend and the one and only Damian Lewis - its all those elements which made me return to it every single week in 10 years of its run. You can't ask for more.

Thank you "Homeland", for the memories!

Like saying goodbye to a best friend.

Brilliant finale. Near the top as one of the best series finales of all time. I take pride in trying to guess where things are going, plot twists, etc. but I never saw this coming. Not only suspenseful, topical, and entertaining, but it connects on an emotional level I never expected. Kudos to the writers and other talent. A special shout out to Mandy Patinkin and Claire Danes. Seriously. Wow. Also agree with other reviewers, it definitely left open the door for either additional season, or even better, a spin-off. Like the title says of this review, I hate when a series that I'm addicted to says goodbye. But goodbye my good friend. Hope to see you again.

A perfect ending.

It's very rare for a television series to end well. Especially a series that spans 8 years. Very few shows have ever accomplished this monumental task. Breaking Bad is about the only other show that ends as spectacularly as Homeland.

Shows such as LOST and Dexter build incredible characters and plot lines but fail miserably in trying to wrap things up and leave the audience with a sense of frustration and disappointment.

Homeland ends in such a way that actually makes you proud to have been a fan of the series. It's climax is perfect. The writers of this series should be given the highest honors for what they did. It's sensational. Well done! Thank you!

One of the best endings to a show ever.

Warning: Spoilers
The writers have done an excellent job pulling this off. It could not have ended in any other better way. Instead of other shows opting to kill of the main characters, it meant and end for the current show but it gave the viewers a perfect idea and scope to what was going to happen next and all of Saul's worries gone in the last scene of episode. Ending on such a high not easy. The ending was so satisfying. With the ending, Homeland is officially for me at the summit. Best TV Show ever. glad to have been a viewer of the show since the pilot. Carrie and Saul the heart and brain of the show.

A finale as superb and determined as Carrie herself.
dpoland-7658927 April 2020
The end was bittersweet. I thank the cast and crew for a great series. The ending was fitting for the character of Carrie and the best finale I could've hoped for. I'm glad they didn't go with a rosy Disney fairy tale ending and stayed in the spirit of this world they've built.

I will miss this show but I suppose it was time to say good bye.

The best ending to a series, ever!! I'm sad that it's over, but so happy with the conclusion. Wish it would continue on the "big screen."

An elegant finale!
rafaprada8227 April 2020
Finally, a worthy series finale!

It leaves you wanting more and that's because is THAT good!

We could easily have one more season or a movie or whatever! Let's not fall for that...it was a perfect ending and it was definitely worth being a fan since 2011.

Cheers to the writers, Claire Danes and, of course, Mandy Patinkin!

Good ending but bad scene cut in UN
MrBarryy27 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It was good episode and good final ending. But they could have cut the translator death in different way. Like it is in American lands, why he just not ask for back up? The security guy was all alone and did not ask for any help from Americans or police, or anything. He just went down to storage room all alone

Great wrap up
tomcat463827 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had started to grow a bit tired of the series the last couple seasons. But this season, though started out slow, built up masterfully. The finale was just great. I really couldn't expect a better ending.

Carrie, as troubled as she is, outsmarts everyone, and gets the best of both worlds with the outcome. She both stops a war and becomes a replacement for the asset she gave up to stop the war. She once again amazes Saul by writing a book to solidify the GRU's trust in her so she can pass intel.

Just an amazing, well thought out ending to a great (though recently floundering) series. I wouldn't mind a movie (As has been hinted at) to explore how things turn out but honestly, I think they ended it perfectly as is.

Enjoyed it, but found the ending not plausible

Warning: Spoilers
While certainly having no inside information about how the spy game is played I have read a fair amount. One of my favorite authors who I believe writes with a high level of realism is Frederick Forsythe. I do not usually care for the books that are not realistic. I really have a hard time believing that the Russians would allow a former CIA "spook" access to any high level information. If she married Yevgeny at the end, or maintained a close partnership with him I believe they would have retired him as an agent. Probably use him as an instructor, but not give access to that kind of information. The ending was fun, but I do not find it plausible.

Good but flawed, unrealistic ending.
soldier9928 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I might be in the minority here, but I was disappointed with the ending. It wasn't the worst ending but it wasn't good either. Espionage saga must be made at least remotely realistic to be watchable. The problems I have with the ending are as follows: 1. Russians depicted as almost cartoonist villains. The dialog, the motives are cheap and unbelievable. Just look at the scene where Anna walks in on the GRU director in his UN office (with the flight recorder on his desk) to let him know that Pakistanis are not backing out. The scene is followed by a cheap linear dialog along the lines of "we will finally rule the world muahahaha". Really? So, we are to believe that a nuclear holocaust in the vicinity of Russia border is a Russia's wet dream? If it were so, the Russians would provoke such an action without stealing the flight recorder. 2. I don't believe that Carrie had no other options. How about that media briefing that Saul intended? This carried a much better chance of success by creating enough noise to pressure Russia into giving up the flight recorder. Certainly better than a ludicrous plot to have Saul killed or threatened into giving up his lifelong asset. 3. We are led to believe that the US would threaten a military action on a nuclear armed nation for (at best) a dubious reason. A nationa that that clearly indicates that will defend itself with all they got. Even with a moron in the Whitehouse? 4. Russian plot to have Carrie kill one of the most senior US officials on US soil is laughable. Just like the fact that Carrie went for it (even with her taking the plan B). Repercussions of such action would be catastrophic to say the least, for both Russia and the United States. 5. Carrie becoming a new Russian asset for Saul. Yes, that is completely plausible that Yevgeny will let an ex-CIA spy (clearly a patriot after what she had to sacrifice for her country) anywhere near even third-class information that might be of any use to US. 6. Anna being hunted down in a UN building by GRU agents. Enough said. Not great.

Warning: Spoilers
What a brilliant way to end the show. I'm so glad they went this way. Carrie would never kill Saul. They both knew each other's moves. The whole episode was like a game of chess between both. The tension was once again phenomenal. The first half of the episode, I really didn't know what would happen. What a way to epitomise Carrie's and Saul's characters. Carrie is relentless and Saul is unwavering. This was a great farewell to one of the best TV duos of all time. I honestly thought there was no way Carrie lived to the end but they proved me wrong and I couldn't be happier with the conclusion. Farewell to one of my all time favourite shows

A fitting end to a stellar espionage saga
henrycoles919 June 2020
It may not have been the best season - season 2 certainly comes on top - but the makers absolutely delivered on the conclusion of my favorite non-science-fiction show by far. From the inept VP-turned-President of the US to the war hawk badgering him into a nuclear war, to the advisors at a loss to bring him to his senses, to the Taliban, Afghan and Pakistani characters bound up in this global quagmire, to the Russians taking advantage of the situation, everyone gave an indelible and incredible performance.

Time and again the series gracefully takes its cue from the real events of the war on terror in the last two decades. Long-drawn-out invasions and wars based on lies and touted by war hawks. Countries in the region having their own agendas at loggerheads with America's. Russian scheming, manipulation and interfering. Everyone has got an ulterior motive.

Costa Ronin's character Russian agent Yevgeny Gomorov was a befitting love-hate interest for Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison, whose decades-long friendship with the faithful Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) comes to a head in the most unexpected and unbelievable manner possible. I most definitely didn't see any of this coming.

Hats off to creators Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon.

Honestly, I was ready for Homeland to be over. It had its run and it was great. I even started to despise Carrie, but the series finale was so great, it left me ready for a new season. Maybe another cable station will pick it up......

Finally!!!!!!
lsmuller76796 March 2021
I think anyone who watched GoT will agree the ending could not have been worse. To me, it was a waste to even watch the show. I will never rewatch it and it's not even in my top 20 shows of all time anymore. But, this review is on Homeland so I'll stop there. Homeland has been a favorite of mine since it came out. The way the story has evolved over time from its inception with sgt brody has been remarkable. I wondered where the show would go without Damien Lewis and I was never disappointed. I was scared the last season of homeland would be terrible like the last seasons of a lot of my fav shows, GoT, Dexter, to name a few. The final season did not disappoint and the final episode was a masterpiece to finish this incredible series. I will gladly rewatch this series over and over throughout time. Thank you for such a great show and great ending. Showtime>Hbo lately.

i am sorry but NO
enterlexx1 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was not a good way to finish a series. Season was fine for being in it's 8th and final season, untill the final few episodes. You can tell they had trouble finishing it. It makes absolutely no sense. Weakest point for me this final season must be the gullible Vice President, later President. How did he ever become Vice President in the first place? Is it mandatory to have those in a show? Guess he kept the story moving forward that way.

And sorry but: '2 years later' ?? Talk about having trouble finishing a story... No way they would ever trust her.

10/10 voters have a few screws loose. Blinded bye fandom? There are plenty of things that make absolutely no sense or even sound logical to do or happen. (even for tv shows)

Final ep 4/10, but overal series 7/10 as it was bloody entertaining

Quinn
dochito18 May 2020
Dear Carrie! I will never forget you! best ever show best of bestest!....I even started using my bag like she did....I would love to know there will be more of her....I really hope so.... the only thing I regret on the show was that she missed the true love of Quinn who was madly in love with her. I screamed at her each time she rejected him.... I love you Carrie.

A perfect ending
rmorgansjd27 April 2020
I never write reviews and rarely give 10 stars. But this series finale was epic! It was that good!! I was getting so bored with this sbow. When Brody then when Quinn were gone, I lost interest, but it was Saul that kept me hanging on. Carrie's psychosis was overplayed as a central theme. But this last season made up for all the disappointing ones. Bravo!!! Don't bring the show back or make a movie, this ending is simply perfect and so satisfying!!!

Plot holes galore
rayshaw4427 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with sumtim3s00n. Too many plot holes. There had to be a way to protect the translator in a building brimming with security. Carrie was out on bond? Who get's bond with those charges and who has a proven ability to flee? Why didn't the Russian call Saul to confirm. He opened like a sieve way too easy. Why would the Russians follow through and give up the flight recorder? Fear that Yvegeny would be killed? Guess it's really easy to get out of Israel. Wouldn't Israeli intelligence have been tracking both Carrie and Yvegency the moment they entered the country? Give the interpreter a heads up the she may be burned wayyy sooner so a decent escape plan could be formulated rather than "run". And yes, Carrie having access to secrets through Yvegeny? He is way to smart for that.

Really?
I do not understand the acclaim on here - the final season was a mess akin to GoT - the three main characters here in Carrie, Saul and Yevgeny all started behaving and acting in a way that was completely inconsistent with their well developed characters from the previous series, purely to allow for a plot that was just so far below the usual standard it's silly (the nadir has to be the Russian mole being forced to commit suicide on the run from Russian agents in a blooming AMERICAN building hosting an international convention which would have been positively crawling with US special forces. Why remove her from the public room at all - she was completely safe there. What utter nonsense).

And the ending? Please - could Carrie be any less trustworthy to each side at that point?
  • We're supposed to believe that the Russians would let her anywhere near anything of any importance? (The same issue goes for Yevgeny's character's behaviour in the series, which was entirely ridiculous, and the show didn't even bother trying to explain why he was suddenly in love with Carrie).
  • And we're supposed to believe that Carrie would be trusted by Saul after she demonstrated she had zero faith in him and was willing to do everything she did for her solution (which even the show, via Saul, articulated was far from the only option left).

Sorry, I can suspend my disbelief to a point - but this was a mess and the ending was horribly cringe.

Ridiculously stupid ending...
sumtim3s00n27 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, like Carrie would have any access to any secrets. Because she wrote a book? She was wrongly accused of being a double agent because of running around with Yevgeny and russian intelligence of course knew that. Everyone probabily knew that eventually. She is also an agent who saved the US a 100 times and was absolutely patriotic. And now she "infiltrates" one of the best secured intelligence network on the planet. That is comical. He might tell her where hes going but she would never ever have access to speficications to missiles lol. And nevermind that even, basically what the ending is saying is that shes is prostituting herself (ironically writes "hope my daughter understands... yeah, great goals for your daughter) for the great U.S.A to Yevgeny to have access to secrets. Living a life that is nothing but a facade and artificial. And that guy couldnt get Anna out?, in one of the most protected buildings on the planet?? With security all around, all he needed was to gesture and have two guards stay with them. And at least put a shawl around her head and take her glasses off, shes stands out like Big bird. No, he goes AWAY from all the people into a mousehole in the far far basement. Just about everything is wrong about this episode.
