Ron Perlman is set to star in a revenge action thriller from Luis Gabriel Beristáin titled The Gentleman. This is not to be confused with Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. This film is a Spanish-Mexican co-production that has Perlman joined by a cast of international actors. It will be produced by Spanish company Esto También Pasará, whose credits include Ferocious Wolf and The Boogeyman: The Origin of the Myth, and Mexican company Sdb Films, which is known for The Deal. Our friends at The Remake Co. a label under the FilmSharks sales banner out of Buenos Aires brought to our attention that they sold the Spanish remakes rights to the Uruguayan Fantasy RomCom Ghosting Gloria. A single 30-year-old who has never had an orgasm, finally finds her ideal lover but the only caveat is that he doesn't inhabit the world of the living. Ghosting Gloria was fun but what tickles me so is that these rights were acquired by Igancio G. Cucucovich’s Mother Superior Films. We've know Cucucovich and their work primarily in the realm of horror films. They produced Gustavo Hernandez’s upcoming Big Bad Wolves remake Lobo Feroz, Virus-32, and You Shall Not Sleep (No Dormiras). They are most definitely not romcoms. ...

Guillermo del Toro didn’t need a snazzy trailer, a visually arresting poster, or an A-list actor to sell buyers at Cannes on “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”
In lieu of extra bells, whistles, or shrieking, Bernard Hermann-style violins, del Toro took the stage at the Carlton Hotel armed with his passion for the blood-soaked genre. For roughly an hour, del Toro and director André Øvredal talked for 45 minutes about their vision for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” while dipping into their deep connection to films about monsters, ghosts, and otherworldly elements.
“The presentation he did wasn’t a bunch of dazzle dazzle and movie stars,” said Nick Meyer, CEO of Sierra/Affinity, the sales company hawking foreign rights to the picture. “It was two artists talking about what makes this genre global. It was a master class.”

Uruguayan director Gustavo Hernandez made a splash in 2010 with “La casa muda,” a haunted-house thriller with the conceptual novelty of being ostensibly shot in a single, real-time take. Now, with his third feature, “You Shall Not Sleep,” Hernandez moves into the mainstream of Spanish-language genre cinema, with a budget to match, but theresult is too glossy, contrived, and dependent on rote jump scares to raise much of a fright.
No-budget “Casa Muda” had a clammy, ominous atmosphere; “We Shall Not Sleep,” despite good art direction and an abandoned-asylum setting, feels like a convoluted and inorganic rehash of horror tropes from the start. That shouldn’t hurt its commercial prospects (it’s already opened in some South American countries and sold to other territories), but one hopes Hernandez regains some degree of creative idiosyncrasy in the future.
In outline, at least, “Sleep” appears cut from the same conceptual cloth as the director’s prior work,...

Take a look at this horrendous international poster art for Gustavo Hernández’s next horror film, You Shall Not Sleep (No Dormirás). It tells us nothing about the movie, displaying an older woman being seductive(?), while a younger girl sits emotionless. There’s a building behind them, which I guess they sleep/live/work in? The exterior lights shine across the old […]...
