Interesting documentary really opened my eyes

This film was worth my time to watch. I've always been interested in pioneers and strong figures in movements like this. Lately I don't have a lot of time to watch movies. This checked a lot of boxes for me, I learned about a person, a movement, an era (multiple actually) and how the future was shaped by the works of an extraordinary figure that, up until now, I knew nothing about. I will definitely be recommending this to friends, even if they aren't into the subject, the story itself is too fascinating to pass up. The individuals mentioned and experiences with them left me with a lot of wow moments.

Learned about a fascinating woman

I knew nothing about ruth weis and always wondered if there were women in the movement. Loved hearing her read her work...as with the other beats, the sound of the voice and its inflections brings meaning and life to the words. She was a bold, funny, strong, innovative, creative woman ahead of her time, fighting the patriarchy of the 40s and 50s and 60s whose comments rang so so true. Glad this documentary was done to bring her back to life.

Not a poetry fan and yet....

Ruth Weiss's story is fascinating on its own. Yet set against the dazzling photography, music, and dance; it is even more compelling. Melody Miller took Weiss's life to new cinematic heights. Although not a poetry fan, I even found Weiss's poetry captivating when accompanied with the live music and read in her graveling voice.

The Beat Goddess is a wonderful documentary covering the life of Ruth Weiss. The film maker used all the tools in her toolbox, skillfully connecting the various parts of Ruth's life through drawings, animation, music and dance.

It is beautiful.

Righting History

We love how this film honors Ruth Weiss as a goddess. It was fascinating to learn about her life and her unrecognized role in the shaping of the beat movement. Interweaving dance with her spoken word was brilliant! It's so important to hear women's voices ...we're glad this film amended HIStory!

Extraordinary and fun documentary about a lovable poet
ChelseaKT2 August 2020
Ruth weiss, the beat goddess documentary was a blast to watch. It was enlightening, positive, and showed serenity in ruth weiss' story. The filmmaker captures weiss' family's escape from the Nazi regime utilizing animation like paintings to find safety in America. This story of survival is a trailblazing, norm-defying, force of nature. ruth weiss did not conform to the pressures placed on women in the 1940s and paved the way for women's rights.

This film documents not only weiss' gift to humanity but captures historical moments in our world's social and literary movements and ruth weiss's innovations to the Beat Generation.

The film highlights ruth weiss' electrifying and raw poetry with breathtaking visuals of modern dance in hidden places, from inner city streets to the cosmos.

Inspiring as this film is, it also left us with hope and made us think deeper about who we are as human beings and our valid purposes. I highly recommend this documentary if you have the change of seeing it.
