Both Yvette and Kevin are buoyed by the success of finding the first of the thirty-five new righteous of his generation, the success which convinces most of Yvette's fellow messengers of God to return to their task. The next sign - Kevin's possessions which were in storage being sent to him in Taylor - leads to his next mission, to help Charlie, a lovelorn man he meets, move on from the recent break-up with Erica, who he believed was the love of his life. Kevin has to decide how far he will help Charlie, especially when the direction the help goes may threaten Kevin's own happiness in the process. What happens with Charlie may help those in Kevin's life deal with their own issues of the heart: the unspoken feelings Nate and Amy have for each other, the latter who just admits those feelings to herself; Kevin's own feelings for Kristin; and Tyler's feeling for the woman he met in Laos, who Kevin learns definitively was Yvette. Yvette, still getting used to the whole issue of human emotions, has to figure out what to do about Tyler when she learns how deep his feelings are for her, she knowing that nothing can ever happen between them even if she wanted. Meanwhile, Reese, taking a play from her uncle, decides to take a chance by being what she considers a selfless soul in unofficially volunteering to be a friend to a seemingly introverted new student, Jessica. Reese may find that being that selfless soul is not as easy as only making that first step.
