Anaïs Demoustier, who plays the prosecutor, is the director's sister. Chiara Mastroianni, who plays Lise's mother, is the daughter of Marcello Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve.
The president of the court is played by a real lawyer, Pascal-Pierre Garbarini. It was the legal adviser who worked on the film who proposed this idea to Stéphane Demoustier. The latter confides: "She was sure she would be interested. I met him, we got along very well, and he proved to be a valuable help. When an actor or I had any doubts about the course of the trial or the attitude to be adopted, he pointed us. He was great. His personality was irradiated and his joy of being there was communicative. It was a meeting that rejoiced me because he is a man who is intelligent, sensitive and generous."
Melissa Guers, who for the occasion takes her first steps in the cinema, plays the main character. The actress responded to an announcement posted on Facebook by Stéphane Demoustier, who was looking for a young girl who had never shot. The director justifies his choice: "It was the only one who, from the beginning, had to bear the silences. It was a detonating intensity. His personality was going to enrich the character. This impression has never been denied. She had the instinct of the game and we saw her become an actress during the filming. At first, she was totally consumed by the role, to the point of no longer sleeping. Little by little, by observing her partners, she understood that there was a distance to hold and that it did not prevent the truth of her interpretation. She became very close to the actress who played her lawyer, Annie Mercier, who acted for her as a protective figure on the filming."
Stéphane Demoustier spent time in a court of seats to attend trials (more precisely at the court of Bobigny) and thus be sure to stick to reality as much as possible. "I didn't want to fall into a documentary truth, but it was important to me that it be credible. The final scenario, by the way, I had it read by judges and lawyers," he recalls.
