I never liked Erin Strauss and now Barnes?
CrimeDrama13 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Barnes is simply Erin Strauss on steroids (i.e. forced conflict that pisses me off). I liked JJ's role in this one (always liked her) as well as the fact that the team refuses to give up on what they believe is a D.C. serial killer on the loose. I loved the scene with the U.S. Senator putting Barnes in her place.

They hit the mark

The addition of Kim Rhodes as the Assistant Director for these last two episodes is a brilliant piece of casting. Kim conveys the ability to curdle milk with a single glance from 100 yards; she is the enemy you love to hate. Her antagonist part brings out the dedication and camaraderie of the ensemble cast. The development was a little rushed near the end of the episode but it did work. The story line was well developed.

Finally, she's out! 😁

Warning: Spoilers
Last Gasp can be said that the best episode of season 13. Mainly because it's the end for Linda Barnes. As many people accepted, Linda Barnes character ruined the show. As for me, I also think that she actually ruined the entire show. But no matter what, the end finally came.

What I love of this episode is the angry JJ walked into the BAU. (She's so cute. 😁) It's the best scene of this episode. I totally love it. And I'm really glad to see Emily got her position of Unit Chief. Emily is the best choice for Unit Chief of BAU. I wish she would stay in the position forever.

All in all, I love Criminal Minds very much. Not only this episode turned out to be great one, but also the others did as well. I wish they could run the show forever.

I loved this episode
belindar-216 February 2019
Season 13 Episode 16 " Last Gasp", is the best of the series I have seen. There is humor, seriousness, and plenty of drama. Kim Rhodes, who portrayed Assistant Director Linda Barnes, makes you want to hate her, down to the last bone. Thanks to the writers and the director for bringing one of the best scripts to light. I have been binging and now I will go back for more enjoyment.

I just love, love, love the cast!

I love the case stories and the cast of Criminal Minds!

Vangnsness, Gubler, Cook, Brewster, Mantegna...they should all get equal pay because they make the show! I wouldn't be watching it without them. I sure miss Moore and Gibson, it's been a little disappointing to watch the show without their characters.

I just adored watching Penelope and Morgan's sisterly-brotherly interactions! I'm sad he's gone. Gibson's serious, but nurturing fatherly character was something I used to look forward to watch too. He was beginning to open up more with each passing episode. It's disappointing that we didn't get to see the rest of him. Vangnsness's quirky character just puts a smile on my face every time (I've watched the series twice already, by the way!). I love her vibrant, happy outfits! I'm not sure I'd keep up with the show if she wasn't in it. She's the sister I'd love to have! Gubler...so glad he's still on. I'm amazed and always eager to watch his brain in action, not to mention his good boy-band looks! He should be on every episode. It's always upsetting not to see him in some of the episodes. It almost feels like the case is easily resolved with his brain and the BAU wouldn't be able to function without him.

I'd love for this show to stay on for many more years. I don't want to see it end. I like watching NCIS, Law & Order-Special Victims, and a few others, but this is my absolute favorite show! Special thanks to the cast for making it what it is, amazing!

Strange gasp
TheLittleSongbird24 May 2018
'Criminal Minds' has always been one of my most-watched shows and was a personal favourite for a while. Seasons 1-5 was its best period, Season 4 was especially great. It did get hit and miss from Season 6 onwards, with a mix of good and more episodes and disappointing and less episodes. Season 11 was, apart from about 5 episodes, pretty weak. Season 12 was inconsistent but generally an improvement, its weakest episodes nowhere near as bad as the low-points of Seasons 6, 9 and especially 11.

Season 13 so far has not been too bad at all, pretty good even actually. It is already so much better than Season 11, which started off well actually but quickly went downhill, and has generally settled quicker than Season 12. As far as the previous Season 13 episodes go, only "Submerged" properly underwhelmed. There aren't any classics yet, but most episodes up to this point were decent to very good and only "Annihilator" has been a low point.

"Last Gasp" is a long way from being one of the best episodes of 'Criminal Minds', or even of Season 13. It is however a vastly superior episode to "Annhilator" and corrects most of the faults that episode had.

The case is much better, while extremely weird in places and some of the episode overall is a bit jumpy structurally it is compelling and suspenseful. The unsub is much more interesting and memorable, evoking quite a lot of creepiness, much more presence and a suitably warped back-story. There is far more team work and team interaction, even with the situation the team are in, and there is more of how they solved the case.

Visually, "Last Gasp" is stylish and atmospheric. The music is eerie and not intrusive. The writing is tauter and more thought-provoking, not the sloppy and unbalanced writing seen in "Annhilator". Adam Rodriguez proves himself to be no slouch in the director's chair, doing his best in not making the offbeat nature of the case easy to follow and not too bizarre.

Acting from regulars and support is very good. Really liked the writing for the regular characters, JJ is suitably badass and is proving herself to be a good leader and it's not too much of "the JJ show", and their stories aren't too soapy.

Barnes still gets on my nerves though, easily the worst thing to happen to the show in a while. There are all the things that made her such a bad character in "Annihilator" (annoying, cold fish, no warmth or personality, too domineering, not good at her job, her facepalm-inducing remarks, deja vu conflict) and we can now add here unprofessionalism to the list.

The episode can be jumpy at times structurally, while the team solve the case too quickly and too conveniently and the denouement is fairly rushed.

While the unsub makes an impression, it would have been even better if his motivations were more consistent and made more sense, a bit strange and all over the place at times.

Overall, decent and a big improvement but could have been better. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Last Gasp
bobcobb30114 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I am used to shows on network TV not stretching storylines out, but this was ridiculous. After making a huge point of Linda Barnes coming in and shaking things up they ended her run after just one episode.

It was good to see the BAU pressed out of its element, but this needed to go on longer. At this point the show doesn't need to worry about a recurring story confusing people watching in syndication which is what I think they feared if they extended the story.

Complete garbage
Jackbv12329 August 2019
Was this written by a grade school kid? At first I thought this was a comedy episode. The writers' concept of politics, either bureau or DC is childish. It is Hollywood fantasy to think these (former) agents would violate so many procedures and laws. Likely any arrest would be thrown out for those violations and for the involvement of so many discharged agents. The Barnes story arc was not only ridiculous to begin with, but we did this already a few years ago with Straus. This season has had some of the worst television episodes I have ever watched in a procedural series. Garbage

Linda

Warning: Spoilers
"Your job is to make the FBI look good for the public." Then hire make-up artists, pop stars, etc.

"Linda, I'd like to see you in my office first thing tomorrow." is not sufficient way to remove this character from the show.

I wish she was held hostage and then tortured and then the team was trying to save her and they failed, she was shot right in the middle of her forehead right at the second she saw the team kicked in the door.

Probably the worst episode in Criminal Minds history. Grab 20 beers and see it as a comedy. You'll probably laugh through the whole episode. Nuff said!
