Exclusive: Amazon has acquired world rights for Beirut-set dramedy series Self Modulation from producers Falcon Films and Arna Media, in its first ever Arabic TV series acquisition.
The series is the first project in a multi-show deal partly financed by Arna Media, which plans to invest in two projects annually with Falcon Films.
It is produced by Sobhi Sannan, Rami Sannan and Raed Sannan for Dubai and Beirut-based Falcon Films and Nadezda Motina and Aram Hovhannisyan for Moscow-based Arna Media. The ten-part, 50-minute episode series will air in Q2 2024.
The show follows Ahmad, a Syrian man living illegally in Lebanon whose life takes a dramatic turn after witnessing a tragic event. As he navigates his way through a job at a suicide hotline centre, Ahmad’s dreams of fame and recognition lead him down a path of deception and destruction.
The cast features Maxim Khalil, Carole El Hajj, Foad Yammine, Natasha Choufani, Leen Gherra and Abbas Al Nouri.
The series is written by Foad Yammine, Rami Awad and director Mayar Al Nouri, who makes his television directing debut.
“I am thrilled to collaborate with Nadezda Motina on this extraordinary project. When I introduced the concept to Arna Media, they were captivated by its originality, particularly as no similar project has been undertaken, especially within the Middle East region,” said Falcon Films Managing Director Rami Sannan.
“We are eagerly anticipating the imminent release of the series on Amazon and are eager to hear the audience’s response. From the outset, our goal has been to showcase our capability to produce content with global appeal, reaching audiences beyond the Middle East.”
Arna Media President Motina said the project had been born out of long-standing professional relationship with Sannan.
“When I decided to invest in a series for the Middle East market, I could not think of a better partner. I was sure he could create a unique product which will appeal to local and global players. When you see it, you may think this is A24 in Middle East,” said Arna Media President Nadezda Motina.
Falcon Films is an independent production and distribution company working across the Middle East.
To date it has produced more than 15 local films and five series, including for Downtown, which played on Jawwy Stc; 8 Days for Mbc Shahid, and The Chamber, which debuted on Starzplay Arabia.
On the theatrical front, the company is gearing up for the summer releases of Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 & 2 and A Weekend In Taipei, produced by Luc Besson.

There are a lot of shows based on reality television that have been coming out of the Southeast Asia Belt. The most notable are Squid Game from Netflix Korea and Alice in Borderland from Netflix Japan. Both revolve around an in-universe TV show and the drama around it. There are games, rounds, elimination, a crowd favorite participant, and a winner. Directed by Yanyong Kuruangkura, this Thai Netflix original show is a satirical take on all the reality dating shows and the extent to which women are objectified for the male gaze.
Ready, Set, Love is a six-episode-long miniseries, with each episode having a run time of more than an hour. The show is about Day, a grocery store employee taking part in the annual Ready, Set, Love reality show, which showcases five eligible men who are put on the market, who get to choose their date and possibly the love of their life.

A reboot of “The Office” is reportedly in the works from series co-creator Greg Daniels, according to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni.
In his Sunday newsletter about what may happen in the wake of the WGA strike coming to an end, Belloni cautioned that once the ratification of the WGA’s deal with the AMPTP happens there will be a “stampede” that revolves around “every show and movie fighting for the same resources as studios try to salvage their 2024 slates.”
“We’re also about to see a firehose of announcements of projects and castings that have been held back for fear of bad optics or violating guild rules. Greg Daniels is set to do a reboot of ‘The Office,’ for instance,” Belloni wrote. “Disney’s Dana Walden will finally be able to announce the return of her Bff Ryan Murphy from Netflix. A ton of high-profile movie scripts will come in.

There’s a moment, very late in Tom at the Farm, when the film’s antagonist Francis Longchamp (Pierre-Yves Cardinal) wears a denim jacket with USA emblazoned on the back. The film’s protagonist – Tom – has been held hostage by Francis for several weeks by this point while the pair role play domestic roles in a psychosexual power game. Francis, it should be noted, is also the older brother of Tom’s recently deceased lover and Tom submits to the ruse, in part, because Francis smells and resembles his ex.
At the end of the film, however, Tom finally flees into the Québec woods, steals Francis’ car, and escapes back to the safety of Montreal, the largest city in the province and the third biggest in Canada.

Premiering on Sept. 29, the series will follow Chestnut and build teams, led by designers Jon Pierre and Mary Tjon-Joe-Pin (Two Steps Home), as they take viewers through Greenwood’s rich history and the personal journeys of those featured – many of whom are the descendants of original Black Wall Street residents – over the course of six episodes. This article contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
Say what you will about season 2 of "Ted Lasso," but it was nice to have the whole cast and crew together in one place. For the most part, the characters were all a part of AFC Richmond; even if they didn't get along all the time, they still had to be in the same general area together. Ted (Jason Sudeikis) was forced to regularly interact with new team therapist Sharon (Sarah Niles), which led to him slowly but surely overcoming his prejudice against therapists and learning to open up to her. Jamie (Phil Dunster) was forced into the same locker room as the team he'd gotten regulated in the previous season's finale, leading to him learning to let go of his ego and become a real team player.

Twenty-five years ago, Liz Garbus pulled out her Cover Girl compact at the Oscars just before the winner of best documentary was announced. The Manhattan-raised filmmaker didn’t think her 1998 doc, The Farm: Angola, USA, which she co-directed with Jonathan Stack, would win, but wanted to be prepared. The caked powder spilled all over her gown. “As soon as they did not call us, I thought, ‘Phew, I don’t need to go up there with powder all over my dress,'” she says of the fleeting moment when losing felt like a blessing. “And then being like, ‘Wait, no,'” she recalls of the disappointment settling in.

Hello, everyone! We’re back after a brief hiatus to give you a look at the horror and sci-fi headed home this week on home media. As it turns out, the month of August’s releases are starting off on a quiet note, as we have two titles getting the 4K treatment this Tuesday—Dario Argento’s Tenebrae and Flatliners from Joel Schumacher—and then a handful of indie horror arriving on both Blu-ray and DVD: Scream at the Devil, Paranormal Devil, The Farm, and Joker’s Poltergeist.
Flatliners 4K
Some Lines Shouldn’T Be Crossed.
Known for his impressively eclectic filmography and for helping to launch the careers of several young Hollywood stars of the 80s and 90s, Joel Schumacher tackles the existential question that, at one time or another, haunts us all: what awaits us after we die?

Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent) is putting its U.K. production and distribution business, Nent Studios U.K., on the block in order to focus on the growth strategy for streamer Viaplay.
Richard Halliwell, Nent Studios U.K. CEO, is involved in the sale process, which currently has expressions of interest from more than 20 U.K. and international businesses, the company said.
The Nent Group is divesting Nent Studios U.K. along with a number of other production businesses. Growth plans for Viaplay include launching in Poland and the U.S. in 2021 as well as significantly growing subscriber numbers in the Nordic region and internationally.
Nent Group’s remaining studios operations will focus on delivering content for Viaplay. A new owner for Nent Studios U.K. means this business can continue to serve the global market, the company said.

Will Betty ever truly be rid of her shadow self?
Riverdale Season 4 Episode 9 zeroed in on the teenager's villainous side, and it was all thanks to some scheming from Evelyn Evernever.
On a more serious note, can some just kill Evelyn already? The sooner the farm storyline concludes, the better.
Every single time we move away from it, it rears its ugly head again. It's tiring, but what was more frustrating was Evelyn calling Polly and Alice and saying "tangerine, tangerine, tangerine" through the phone to turn them into complete and utter psychopaths.
Riverdale is dark, absurd, and highly addictive. Shows pull tricks sometimes to keep fans guessing, but could you imagine the uproar if Betty was the one to murder Jughead?
The Bughead fanbase is very vocal, and they probably make up the majority of the fans of Riverdale, so the backlash would be loud and far-reaching.

Riverdale Season 4 Episode 9
"He's dead"
And just like that, Riverdale's midseason finale wraps up with the jaw-dropping reveal that Dark Betty killed Jughead.
Say it ain't so Bughead Nation!
Admittedly, I have no idea where this plot is going. Up until tonight I was convinced that Bret and the jerks over at Stonewall Prep were responsible for Jughead's apparent death.. But let's take what we see as the episode closes at face value: Betty, finally fully giving into the darkness inside of her/those serial killer genes, murders Jughead.
This completely blows up the show...which is something I am all for. But also there's no way that a teen drama on the CW has the guts to kill off their A-list leads, especially in such a grim manner.

Riverdale Season 4 Episode 6
"This is what happens in Riverdale."
Six episodes in to this season of Riverdale and the brakes are fully off. Finally.
It has long been my complaint that the series needs to fully ramp up the crazy without hesistation and this has come to pass. Yes, Jingle Jangle, the Gargoyle King, the Black Hood, The Farm, etc were all insane, but now, in its fourth season, a murderous doll named Julian is front and center. Oh hell yeah.
It is the kind of televisual insanity I live for. Not since the glory days of Melrose Place has a series had so many stupefying plot developments, and really, it's a thing of beauty. This episode's most interesting storyline involves Cheryl further descending into madness...

Edgar tried to escape in a rocket ship, Moose's past got exposed at Stonewall Prep, and Mary decided to stay in Riverdale permanently on Riverdale Season 4 Episode 3.
Below, TV Fanatics Paul Dailly, Meaghan Frey, Jasmine Peterson, and Becca Newton debate the end of The Farm's storyline, Betty defusing a bomb, and Veronica's decision to change her last name.
Edgar Evernever and The Farm have been stopped once and for all. Share your thoughts about Edgar's defeat.
Paul: The conclusion to that storyline was downright bizarre. It felt like some sort of parody, but I'm glad it's finally over.
Meaghan: I'm so confused. Like Paul, I found the whole thing bizarre. If The Farm storyline was going to end so soon anyway, why not just get rid of it between seasons? I wasn't a fan of The Farm storyline, but I was even less of a fan of this sloppy wrap-up.

Indeed. The most consistent thing over the first 60 episodes of Riverdale is just how inconsistent of a show it is. At times, it's a wildly subversive guilty pleasure. Other times, such as in the case of last week's series low, it frustratingly unravels everything that has been established about these characters to date in order to set up a mystery that may or may not pay off down the line.
We know that Jughead will ultimately survive the challenges that lie ahead, so as viewers we collectively hope that the journey that he and the show's other characters take this season will be worthwhile regardless. Now that the death of...

Riverdale Season 4 Episode 2
"After everything I've lived through, I don't think going back to text books and cafeteria politics is really my scene"
With this line, Mad Dog sums up the problem with tonight's Riverdale.
Following seasons packed with serial killers, cults, and murderous Rpgs, it's hard to care about the stories of typical teenage life that this episode places front and center. How can we possibly be concerned with things like football practice when we already have seen Archie nearly murdered by a bear while on the run from his girlfriend's drug kingpin father? I'm sorry, but as a viewer I'm just not capable of the cognitive dissonance required in order to buy what this episode is selling.

After Riverdale left us with that major cliffhanger (and even more unanswered questions) in the season three finale, we're more anxious than ever for the fourth season to premiere. The final episode of the season acted as a culmination of the show's first three seasons, bringing the stories of Jason Blossom, the Black Hood, and the Gargoyle King together at last. Though we imagine the story of The Farm will continue, we can only guess what the next mystery will be (and what in the heck will lead to that crazy flash-forward we saw in the last episode). There have been plenty of guesses about what lays ahead, but here's everything we know for certain so far.

The day has come for “Four Lions” director Christopher Morris, as IFC Films has acquired the U.S. rights to his latest film “The Day Shall Come,” the indie distributor announced Tuesday.
Morris’s first film since “Four Lions” nine years ago stars Danielle Brooks, Anna Kendrick, Denis O’Hare, Jim Gaffigan and newcomer Marchánt Davis, and IFC will release “The Day Shall Come” theatrically and on demand on Sept. 27.
“The Day Shall Come” premiered at this year’s SXSW and is a satire “based on a hundred true stories.” TheWrap’s critic Monica Castillo said in her review out of SXSW that in the film, “the stories of many people in the United States are condensed into one bitterly funny but dark comedy about the shortcomings of our justice system.”

Cheryl Blossom has overcome a lot on Riverdale, and she's continuing to grow. Over the course of the series, the character has faced so much heartbreak - the death of her twin brother, her father's suicide, her complicated family history - but has maintained her tenacious spirit and fiery attitude. While Cheryl often comes across as strong-willed and independent onscreen, to actress Madelaine Petsch, she still sees her character as the "vulnerable little girl" she was in season one.
"She is, to me, one of the more fragile characters in the show," Petsch told Popsugar while promoting her new M3 sunglasses collection at Privé Revaux on May 9. "She's been through so much. She's seen so much loss. And she's still figuring out who she is. She's figured out her sexuality and her girlfriend, but there's still so much more to figure out in life for her."
In fact, that's one...

Here's what we want to know about last night's Riverdale shocker!
This Riverdale article is one gigantic spoiler. Turn away if you haven't seen the season finale yet.
The Riverdale Season 3 finale was a fun roller coaster of emotion that gave viewers resolutions to most of the series' ongoing storylines. In true modern television fashion, the finale also raised a variety of new plot points that will be explored in the show's fourth season -- which is expected to begin in the fall.
As we attempt to process all the wild shit that went down last night (Penelope straight up murdered Hal! Jughead is dead in the future! Hiram's always an asshole!), we thought we'd present a rundown of the unanswered questions we have from the finale and explore what they might mean for upcoming visits to the Town with Pep.
What happened to Jughead in the flash-forward?...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Chapter Fifty-Seven: Survive the Night,” the third season finale of “Riverdale.”
The Gargoyle King was finally unmasked on “Riverdale’s” third season finale, but like everything within that show, things were not as simple as they first appeared to be.
While it was Chic (Hart Denton) who was running around town doing most of the dirty work, such as getting the Griffins & Gargoyles game into the hands of the town’s youth in the first place, it was Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt) who was really pulling the strings.
“Penelope’s a master manipulator,” says showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “She suffered two core wounds in her life: One was she was basically bought by the Blossom family to marry Clifford, and then she lost her son Jason. When we were talking about who would want to take such an epic revenge on our families,...

The Riverdale gang is heading into their senior year… but will they all survive to see graduation?
Wednesday’s Season 3 finale, which saw Penelope put Archie and his friends through a demented game of G&G with life-and-death stakes, hit us with a barrage of shocking moments like arrows from Cheryl’s bow. We break down the twists of the Riverdale Season 3 finale...and speculate on what happens next.
This Riverdale article contains spoilers.
To say that the season finale of Riverdale was eventful is an exercise in understatement. Not only did we get a resolution of the Black Hood and Gargoyle King storylines, Penelope Blossom established herself as the show's primary antagonist, Alice's true intentions with The Farm were revealed, Hiram began a quest of vengeance against his family, Betty lost a father and gained a step-brother, Cheryl was reunited with Jason and, most importantly, a Lost-esque flash-forward illustrated how brutal the future will be for Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead.
It was all a bit epic, and a more-than-satisfying conclusion to Riverdale's uneven third season. But with so much happening in the episode, it's understandable if you missed something. Drawing from evidence that the show has already given us,...

Archie fought Hiram in one final boxing match, Betty discovered The Farm's biggest secret, and Ethel revealed a shocking truth about The Gargoyle King on Riverdale Season 3 Episode 21.
Below, TV Fanatics Becca Newton, Kat Pettibone, and Brandon Vieira debate Veronica getting back together with Reggie, Polly working with Edgar to deceive Betty, and Hiram's big arrest.
Hiram got arrested in a sting held by Veronica, Archie, Mary, Reggie, and the FBI. Could this be what finally stops Hiram once and for all?
Becca: No. The best we can hope for is this wraps up Hiram's storyline for the season. Prison hasn't stopped Hiram before and won't stop him now, assuming he even gets sent to prison.
Kat: It's doubtful. As Becca said, the jail hasn't stopped Hiram before, so why would it stop him now? Hiram during Riverdale Season 3 feels relatively wrapped up, but he is way too popular of...

We’ve been wondering for weeks what The Farm is really up to, so it was to our gleeful surprise that the secret to the hippie-chic cult was right there in its name the whole time. Oh, they’re farming alright. With “The Dark Secret Of Harvest House,” Riverdale finally fills in some blanks as it approaches its season…...

If one thing was made perfectly clear after Riverdale Season 3 Episode 21, it's that most people don't leave The Farm in one piece. Enlightenment from this cult doesn't come without a price.
We always figured that The Farm was up to no good with their chants about togetherness and their brainwashing. What Betty discovered, on the other hand, was new levels of deception that made Edgar Evernever look like a deranged serial killer.
Anyone could be at risk heading into Riverdale Season 3's finale next week.
The secrets of The Farm were more serious than any one of us could've imagined.
Throughout all the possibilities that ran through our minds (from a financial con to a supernatural servitude for The Gargoyle King), organ harvesting hadn't been a top contender. This reveal took the cake with Riverdale's trend of twisting real-life issues with a dark, 50s-style charm.

Exclusive: National Geographic has set its next documentary, which will focus on famed ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. Two-time Oscar-nominated and two-time Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus will direct and produce, with Oscar winner Dan Cogan (Icarus) as producer. Oscar winner Evan Hayes (Free Solo) will also produce under his Ace Content banner.
The doc will feature never-before-seen 4K footage of Cousteau with exclusive access to the Cousteau Society Archives. Its focus will be on the inventor-explorer-environmentalist-filmmaker revolution, i.e., giving mankind the resources to explore the ocean with the Aqua Lung, calling attention to ocean pollution, and his longtime collaboration with the National Geographic Society.
“Jacques Cousteau was a conservation pioneer whose advocacy to protect our oceans dovetails perfectly with National Geographic’s core values,” said Carolyn Bernstein, Evp Scripted Content and Documentary Films for National Geographic. “We are honored that the Cousteau Society...
