Mark Damon, who starred in the Vincent Price horror classic House of Usher and spaghetti Westerns before revolutionizing the foreign sales and distribution film business and producing features including 9 1/2 Weeks, Monster and Lone Survivor, has died. He was 91.
Damon died Sunday of natural causes in Los Angeles, his daughter, Alexis Damon Ribaut, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Damon spent the first 20 years of his career as an actor, including about a dozen as a leading man in Italian action movies, before he transitioned to the business side.
He had early success as an executive producer with two movies written and directed by Wolfgang Petersen: the German-language World War II drama Das Boot (1981), which received six Oscar nominations, and The NeverEnding Story (1984), a big-budget fantasy film that featured a Damon-commissioned score by Giorgio Moroder for non-German audiences.

The producer of “Safehaven,” an unreleased TV show, has been accused in a lawsuit of siphoning funds from the show’s budget to pay his personal expenses, including payments to keep his house out of foreclosure.
David Ozer, the president of Strong Studios, is alleged in the complaint to have fabricated invoices and created fake vendors in order to hide the theft.
The plaintiff, Kevin V. Duncan, is a producer and investor in the series. The pair earlier produced the Nicolas Cage horror film “Willy’s Wonderland.”
Ozer is a veteran entertainment executive, having previously worked at Sony, Starz and as president of Idw Entertainment.
According to the complaint, Duncan and Ozer sought to produce “Safehaven” as a 10-episode supernatural series for Crackle, the free ad-supported streaming service. The show is based on a 2017 graphic novel by James Seale.

It’s another showdown, and with that comes deciding on if the imitator does it better than the originator. Even though prior rip-off segments discussed very similar components between the two, this upcoming showdown is just a down-right spitting image of one another. One of those films is based off a global best-selling video game and has created a massive following. With a title like Freddy’s Fridays, it’s obvious this was meant to cash in on the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s. And with the length of time that film took to actually get made both of the other knockoffs, The Banana Splits Movie and Willy’s Wonderland ended up preceding it to release, so Freddy’s Fridays has the mockbuster slot all to itself.
Todd is bringing an escort named Anastasia home. She doesn’t seem overly concerned when he brings her not to his apartment but to a basement full of candles, chains, and a book with an eye in the middle of the cover. She even reads from it, which is a big mistake. Four figures appear and hack her to pieces as Todd watches.

Industry veterans Amanda Sherwin, Mike Messina and Seth Needle are teaming up to launch Blue Harbor Entertainment, a new distribution, marketing and consulting company. The news comes as the American Film Market kicks off this week in Santa Monica where the executives will be on the ground looking for partners. Blue Harbor is looking to distribute 10 to 15 feature film releases per year, as well as provide advisory services to third parties. The trio are currently negotiating multiple deals.
“Blue Harbor provides an alternative path for filmmakers — the opportunity to hire their distributor, and work with them, collaboratively and transparently, to bring their films to audiences,” said Needle. “Whether that’s something they decide once they have a completed picture, during the packaging stage or somewhere in between, we are here to help them craft a strategy for success.”

We’ve always known what creeps us out. From clowns to small tight spaces, we as an audience have been subjected to enough now that we know what people and places to stay away from. Some of those have included fun houses, and others include creepy animatronic kid’s entertainment. With movies like The Funhouse (1981) and Magic (1978) reminding of this, Five Nights at Freddy’s should be just as creepy and just as unnerving, unfortunately however, it is not. Five Nights at Freddy’s is neither creepy nor entertaining, even though there is a stellar performance from Josh Hutcherson.

You’ve got to know that if Josh Hutcherson (Bridge to Terebitia is the saddest movie I’ve ever seen) is in anything, I will probably watch it and then at least pretend to like it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not only biased because I’ve grown up watching him, but I think he’s quite a fine actor who has the knack for making every role rather amiable. Before we get into the details, I’d like to say I’ve never played the games and know nothing about the lore. So, take this review with a pinch of salt if you’re a fan of the game. Having said that, as someone who went in completely blind, I found Five Nights at Freddy’s a little bit too bleak for what it appears to be. Yes, I do want to try to play the game...

The success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 is a hell of a thing. It took so many years for Hollywood to realize that just taking one of the most popular video game franchises ever and translating it to the movie screen in the most basic way can net them a ton of money. They figured this out with comic books years ago, but only now are they realizing that maybe you can use that same strategy with games instead of giving a middle-aged man a silly haircut and claiming he’s supposed to be Bowser.
Now in the latter half of the year, we get a video game movie from the other side of the spectrum. Instead of video games’ golden boy, it’s the little indie series that could. Five Nights at Freddy’s, an inexpensive breakout gaming hit from nine years ago, has a movie coming out...

Taylor Swift isn’t the “marquee character” stepping up to save theaters from a strike-caused theatrical vacuum. Freddy Fazbear, the title antagonist in the popular horror-comedy video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is doing his part. The Blumhouse-produced adaptation, produced for $20 million and boasting an all-audiences PG-13 rating, earned a whopping $10.3 million in Thursday preview grosses.
Even if the poorly-reviewed IP adaptation plays frontloaded (think a 20% Thursday-to-weekend split like the “Twilight Saga” sequels), either because it’s “for the fans” or because it’s concurrently available on Peacock, Universal is still looking at a $50 million-plus opening weekend. If it plays anything like a conventional, less-frontloaded film, well, a 15% Thursday-to-weekend split gives it $66 million for the weekend.
Based on a series of comically horrific (or horrifically comical) video games centered on a Chuck E. Cheese-type establishment that kills people, the film arrives in theaters just nine years after the first point-and-click survival video game.

The latest horror film from Blumhouse concerns a security guard tasked with safeguarding a long-shuttered family-themed pizza restaurant whose giant animatronic animal characters spring to life and go on murderous rampages.
And that’s the most credible element of the story.
Based on, what else, a hugely successful video game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s, premiering simultaneously in theaters and on Peacock, never quite figures out what it wants to be. It seems to be aiming for cult status, but isn’t nearly transgressive enough to achieve it. It promises a gore fest, but keeps the violence sanitized enough to secure a PG-13 rating. And rather than expand on the sort of mayhem contained in the video game experience, it provides a tragic backstory that seeks to provide emotional depth but instead just slows the proceedings to a crawl. The ultimate result is a snooze.

The final weekend before Halloween is upon us and the masters of horror, Blumhouse, are releasing the highly anticipated video game adaptation of Five Night’s at Freddy’s. The PG13 rated film is seeing a wide release on around 3500 screens with tracking currently having the film hit around $50 million while some see the film hitting as high as $85 million.
The biggest obstacle the film has to overcome is that for some reason, some studio executive at Universal thought it’d be a good idea to give this one a simultaneous release with their Peacock streaming service. So the big question is: will people pay the $10-$20 to see this in theaters or will paying just $5.99 for a month of Peacock be the route a lot of people take? I am not a big supporter of streamers, there are too many and most of them put out maybe one decent movie every three months.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: This Is What You Get When Alpaca Etiquette Is Ignored

Despite the off-brand llamas’ unofficial status as the Rolls Royce of even-toed ungulate mammals, Richard Stanley’s 2019 horror film makes raising them seem like an inconvenience that rivals the appearance of indescribable cosmic evils. Who on Earth has the time to examine unpasteurized alpaca milk for the presence of fennel?...

Cupcake? Attacking people. Foxy? Running like an awkward weirdo in the original game. Springtrap? Oh, baby, he is here, and "Five Nights at Freddy" fans are eatin' good with this newest movie trailer from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse. For the last decade, "Five Nights at Freddy's" (or "FNaF") has been a cultural phenomenon with a stranglehold on the landscape of horror gaming. Created by Scott Cawthon, the point-and-click survival horror game was a simple indie game that gained viral fame and turned into a multi-million dollar franchise. A film adaptation has been in production hell for over five years at this point, but everything we've seen thus far has been proof that this is no ordinary adaptation. It's difficult not to just sit here and completely geek out over this latest trailer, because after years of thinking a "FNaF" film wasn't ever going to see the light of day, seeing...

G.O. Parsons, the writer behind the Nicolas Cage-led horror comedy Willy’s Wonderland, is up to his old tricks. Parsons wants to give automated animals another go with the Beast of Bower Boulevard, a three-part digital comic debuting this week. Initially funded on Kickstarter, Beast of Bower Boulevard unfolds in a secluded ski town, where a sheriff’s deputy and his family investigate after things go quiet. Once they reach their destination, they discover the urban area is under attack by a robot dinosaur built by the military!
Beast of Bower Boulevard gives off ’70s and ’80s vibes with a splash of absurdity. Initially written as a screenplay, Parsons converted the script after working with publisher American Mythology on the Willy’s Wonderland comics. While Parsons is thrilled about the Beast of Bower Boulevard stomping onto the comic book page, he’s not ruling out a live-action adaptation if a studio shows interest.

When they attempt to rob their latest victim, they find themselves caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse where the tables are turned and the hunters become the hunted.

You’ll never look at a Chuck E. Cheese’s the same way again.
The new trailer for “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” based on the video game of the same name, is here and it’s ready to creep you out. You can watch it above.
In the movie, Josh Hutcherson plays a down-on-his-luck security guard who takes a job guarding a derelict family entertainment center called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza that has some old animatronics that spring to life and murder anyone who crosses their path.
If you are a child of the 1980s and have ever visited a Chuck E. Cheese or ShowBiz Pizza Place, then you are intimately aware of the intoxicating combination of subpar pizza and disquieting animatronic figures. The fact that in “Five Nights at Freddy’s” the characters are also murderous automatons seems like the only natural progression.

Between Rhys Frake-Waterfield's "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey," Elizabeth Banks' "Cocaine Bear," Kanphong Banjongphinij's slasher movie "Night of the Killer Bears," and now Emma Tammi's "Five Nights and Freddy's" -- due in theaters on October 27 -- this has been an exceptionally terrifying year for all things ursine. Determining what has drawn filmmakers to make movies about bears in 2023 may have to remain a matter for sociologists.
"Five Nights at Freddy's" is based on the massively popular series of video games that began in 2014 and immediately shot to the foreground of the popular consciousness. Game creator Scott Cawthon reportedly came up with "Five Nights at Freddy's" after negative reviews of his family-friendly, Christian-facing game "Chipper & Sons Lumber Co." started to appear. Evidently, the central beaver character was compared to a malfunctioning animatronic, the type one might see in an abandoned Chuck E. Cheese's. Miffed at the negative reaction to "Chipper,...

After nearly a decade of talking about it, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is finally coming our way later this year, thanks to the folks at Blumhouse. The company behind hits like "The Black Phone" and "The Purge" is bringing the beloved series of video games to life, meaning some animatronic murder bears will be gracing the silver screen this Halloween season. But a small movie from a couple of years ago may have beat Blumhouse to the punch, and Nicolas Cage was the man doing the punching.
In early 2021, as the pandemic was still raging on, Screen Media Films released "Willy's Wonderland," which features Cage as an unnamed janitor with no dialogue in a film that, as it happens, seems to resemble "Five Nights at Freddy's" an awful lot. "We're going to have so much fun together." Blumhouse has revealed a first look at the horror film Five Nights At Freddy's, an adaptation of the super popular video game series of the same name. They made a surprise film out of this and it's already ready for release in October. "It's time to clock-in." The main series consists of nine video games taking place in locations connected to a family pizza restaurant franchise named "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza", after its mascot, the animatronic bear Freddy Fazbear. A troubled security guard begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy's won't be so easy to make it through... Starring Josh Hutcherson, with Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kat Conner Sterling, Jessica Weiss, & Grant Feely. So this is obviously another Chuck E. Move over Super Mario Bros, as Universal just released the first teaser trailer for their next highly anticipated video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy’s. A film version of the video game franchise has been in the works for years, and sure enough, Blumhouse and Universal are readying what they no doubt hope will be the next successful franchise for the horror-based studio. The retro trailer, which features Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt running afoul of the killer animatronic mascots, was short, sweet, and promises a good time.
Here’s the official synopsis from the studio:
The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouse— the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man— brings Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen.

Isn’t it amazing to have Nicolas Cage back in cinemas?! There is truly is no one like the mercurial, surreal performer but of course we don’t mean he has been completely gone from our screens: it’s just a lot of his output in the last decade or so has seen him predominantly confined to the smaller ones. Still, in recent years, he has graced us with his presence in ways only The Cage can with some of his most outlandish work in Mandy, Willy’s Wonderland, Prisoners of the Ghostland, and Color Out of Space, each showcasing the actor’s penchant for the extreme, the expressionistic and the fascinating.
He went full meta last year with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a brilliant satire film that poked fun at his long filmography and his unique persona, one that showed an often-forgotten funny side that helped him in his early career.

The day a lot of fans of the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game franchise were probably worrying would never come along has finally arrived: the film adaptation has officially started filming! This adaptation was originally set up at Warner Bros., where Gil Kenan (Monster House) was going to direct the film from a screenplay he was writing with Tyler Burton Smith (the Child’s Play remake). Then the project moved over to Blumhouse, where Chris Columbus (Home Alone) was attached to direct it for several years. But now it has gone into production with Emma Tammi – director of The Wind, Into the Dark: Delivered, and Into the Dark: Blood Moon – at the helm, working from a screenplay she wrote with Seth Cuddeback (Mateo) and video game creator Scott Cawthon.

"The Devil himself never takes possession, he sends one of his agents." Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Accursed, made by filmmaker Kevin Lewis (of Nicolas Cage's Willy's Wonderland most recently). Not to be confused with the other horror film also known as The Accursed released last year - this one is about a demon taking over an old woman in a cabin. Elly is asked by a family friend to look after an elderly woman who is living in a remote cabin for a few days. She agrees, but soon discovers there is a demon hiding in the woman just waiting to break free. Uh oh. The horror film stars Mena Suvari, Sarah Grey, Sarah Dumont, Meg Foster, and Alexis Knapp. This looks like it does get super horrifying at the end when the demon wants out and is tired of waiting.

The cinematic legend, Nicolas Cage, seems to be having a renaissance lately. After years of treading straight-to-video titles, his legacy seemed to survive on memes and past performances. Recently, he’s regained acclaim for performances in abstract films like Mandy and subtle films like Pig. All the while appearing in titles that would normally look below an Academy Award winner, like Willy’s Wonderland and Primal.
Cage is appearing at this year’s TIFF for his latest film, Butcher’s Crossing. This film marks the first western Cage has been in during his 40-year film career. Cage recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss how this came to be,
“Yes, it’s amazing to me. I know people sometimes laugh when I say I’m from the West, but the fact is, you can’t get any more West than California. I have a California drawl. It’s the way I speak.

Offering rides to strangers can often lead to trouble, and in Sympathy for the Devil, one driver is about to discover that not every passenger is worth picking up. Production is underway in Las Vegas on Sympathy for the Devil, starring Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman.
Yuval Adler directs from a script written by Luke Paradise (Lost on a Mountain in Maine). Sympathy for the Devil follows “The Driver” (Kinnaman), who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man, “The Passenger” (Cage). As their white-knuckle ride progresses, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.
“This is a tour de force featuring two incredible actors,” said producer Allan Ungar. “As an acclaimed filmmaker, Yuval has assembled the perfect cast and brought a unique and gritty vision to this film that will be sure to capture audiences.

Sometimes mayhem is the way to go with a movie since offering too much exposition might not be the best idea. From the outset, Willy’s Wonderland looks like a ridiculous movie that could be written off as one of Nicolas Cage’s many performances that was bound to go straight to DVD and be forgotten. Still, after watching the movie, it’s easier to say that it’s one of the pleasant surprises that he’s been a part of in the last decade. Too many people make too big of a deal about how many movies he’s made due to his need to

Nicolas Cage is a national treasure. There are just no two ways about it. He’s an A-lister who is willing to take chances on films, whether it’s because he wants a paycheck or because he just has some strange connection to the story. He’ll do a film where he’s fighting animatronics and he has zero lines (“Willy’s Wonderland”) and then follow it up with an uber-meta film about his own fame (“Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”).

"Willy's Wonderland" is a whole damn trip. The action-horror comedy sees a lone drifter (Nicolas Cage) roll into a small town, taking up a job as temporary janitor for a local theme restaurant. What the drifter doesn't know is that the restaurant is haunted. Grant Cramer sits at his office desk. On the wall behind him hangs framed movie posters: Willy’s Wonderland (2021), which he produced, and a poster of The Stunt Man (1980) autographed by its director, Richard Rush, who was a mentor to him. Cramer’s career in show business spans 40 years and includes film and television acting, producing, and writing. His dirty blond hair is pulled back into a ponytail. He sports a beard, and he has that kind of smile that spreads throughout his entire face and crinkles his eyes. He’s generous with his time, and over the next hour, we talk horror, killer klowns, absurdity, acting, Hollywood politics, and living a life in the present with gratitude and passion.
