Roughneck Vincenzo?
jackybrown2210 January 2022
I loved every morsel of this series. It was similar imho to Vincenzo or the other way around. Whereas Vincenzo was smooth Lawless Lawyer was rough and gritty and possibly more actioned pack. I stayed up very late so that I could finish because while I enjoy leftovers I wanted to consume it in one sitting.

A good adrenaline rush!
11ovz115 September 2021
The drama is action packed with Lee Joongi showcasing his talents in martial arts. It's beautiful to watch. The chemistry between the villain and Lee Joongi's character is just awesome. I loved Seo Yeji's character as well since she portrayed a smart, witty and a bold woman, who doesn't hesitate to protect justice. A badass character!

The drama was great in the first half, however, the story becomes hazy from episode 9. Still finishes well. From episode 9 onward, I only watched it for the four main characters and their great acting. The story wasn't for my liking. But, the well choreographed action kept me wanting to watch more and more!

sez_tim8 September 2021
I had a lot of fun watching lawless lawyer i love the lead actors both hold thier own so well, but together they are volatile and explosive in this smart and fun series. I was hooked from the start, I loved the fight scenes and the plot that unfolds along the way. Yeah its another law abiding drama but with action twists and turns that just keeps you wanting to watch more.

LAWLESS LAWYER: Underrated Action-Legal K-Drama
Jinxxa_Wolf28 December 2021
LAWLESS LAWYER (2018) was a fun, fast-paced, slick legal drama starring the amazing Lee Joon Gi (of Flower of Evil/ Scarlet Heart Reo fame). In this series, he is a cunning gangster lawyer, name Bong Sang-pil, out for justice for crimes committed against his mother during his childhood. Being a real life martial arts expert Lee Joon Gi shines in this often action-packed role. I personally really enjoyed the energy of this show, as the action and fight scenes really spiced up what might have become a slow or tedious legal drama.

Actress Seo Ye-ji was also interesting as the courageous moral lawyer Ha Jae-yi, who is paired with Bong Sang-pil. His cheery charisma mixed with her unwavering boldness made for a very entertaining pairing, as the two become unstoppable partners in Lawless Law Firm and eventually grow to deeper levels of understanding.

Ha Jae-yi was a very likable character for me, a strong female lead from the start-fighting discrimination in the legal systems where female lawyers aren't given the same respect. Instead of being a push over, her reactions are sometimes less thought-out but certainly relatable. She was one of those characters who reacted reasonably and often felt relatable. When she did, say, punch someone in the face...it felt justified. Otherwise, she had a lot of character depth and made for a great balance to the character of Bong Sang-pil.

While there were some predictable aspects of this series, the cast was really colorful and high energy, which is what honestly sold me on the show. Episode 2 drew me in and by episode 4 I was hooked...

The "villains" or baddies are believably bad, rather than 2D cutout bad guys. I do wish there had been more motives given, however, as to what drove them to do what they did. Money, fame, power, greed, I suppose. Either way, they were very vividly characterized, especially the gangster thug/Mayor Ahn Oh-joo. He was brilliantly casted/acted and was hugely entertaining to watch on screen. Judge Cha Moon Sook was convincingly devious in her role as well, and very hard to read. She was very subtle, cunning and made for a threatening foe. Nam Soon-ja was another interesting character, brilliantly acted. The way she flipped personalities made her another unpredictable variant among the many puzzle pieces. Overall the casting was great. There are just too many great actors and roles to name. And that's what made this show so watchable for me.

While some plot points are indeed a bit predictable, the series was very entertaining and well casted. It was quirky and had a lot of heart. It was a very fun watch and being a moderate Lee Joon Gi fan, I wanted to catch up on some of his lesser known series. This one was very enjoyable and exciting, though the show was missing something, hard to say what (no fault of the cast).

Besides his usual charismatic charms, Lee Joon Gi offered some really powerful emotional performances in this series as well. Some of those scenes packed a hard punch. As far as the romance, the main leads had great onscreen chemistry that felt natural and convincing. It was great to watch their relationship progress. It made for a fun, memorable experience and overall, it was a very decent and exciting show. Very underrated and worth a chance. No regrets.

STORY: 8/10 CINEMATOGRAPHY: 7/10 ART/DESIGN/VISUALS: 8/10 MUSIC: 7/10 OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10.

It could use a lot more effort, but yeah it's cool to watch
lovablepink9 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The exposition of the drama got me hooked. It has the brain (legal battles) and the brawn (physical fights) element, which is a promising combination if you are into action dramas. The promising plot and conflicts are able to keep the audience engaged through episodes, as they are intriguing enough. However, don't expect the fights to be that epic. There are twists, sure, but some are kind of predictable and forced. The twists are not the kind that could make you clap of awe. Then, as expected from Korean dramas, there is the romantic element. I was worried at first that this would ruin the cool prompt, but luckily, it doesn't, as it only serves as an additional sentimental watching experience. However, one thing does bother me: a cliché couple conflict. The female lead character is at odd with the male lead, just because he keeps her in the dark for her own sake, while she instantly jumps into conclusion without considering other reasons behind his action. I'm sorry, but this is just too dumb for a so-called lawyer, who is supposedly used to facts and logic. I also notice some details that don't add up, such as the female lead's inability to recognize her own mother when the mother is literally portrayed by the same actress with the only difference is the hair. Sure, the female lead was only a child when the mother left her, but there's a family picture in her father's photo studio, for God's sake! It's just too illogical, let alone since the female lead has always been longing for her mother, which normally would make her keep record of her mother's face. On top of the minor annoyance, the ending is not as epic as expected. It's all resolved just like that, making me question, "That's it? Just like that?!" This drama is cool, honestly, but it doesn't last long, let alone until the very end. I think this could be mind-blowing drama if the conflicts are prepared better. I would still recommend this, not to mention if you love watching Joon Ki's fighting scene.

My opinion bout the characters and actors
jgardiner-871-72672919 December 2021
Posted 14 December 2021 About Seo Ye Ji and Lee Joon Go Love these two acting together. My fave kdrama couple. Lee Joon Gi had excellent chemistry with this female co-star, so I'm extra pleasantly surprised by the chemistry between him and Seo Ye Ji. The chemistry between them feels sparky, natural, comfortable, unforced and organic.

I love that they feel like equals onscreen. He's not overshadowing her even though he is the more experienced actor, and it feels like they bring equal amounts of presence to my screen. As bickering adversaries, and then as partners in law, Sang Pil and Jae Yi feel equally matched, and as a couple, they feel equally attracted to each other, and I feel like the romantic connection between them feels believable and real. I don't know but I feel I should just add this bit. Remember they are just acting in a fictional story we are not expecting them to get married in real life. Here their acting is impeccable. That's what we want.

Bong Sang-pil and Ahn Oh-joo Just watched this series Lawless Lawyer again. I just can't help but admire Lee Joon-Gi as Bong Sang-pil and Choi Min-soo as Ahn Oh-joo acting skills. Truly praiseworthy and exemplary. So loved the way that they interacted together as characters in this renown work. Choi Min-soo brought every nuance of a ruthless, unrelenting, cold blooded gangster. Every part of his body and face emulated his confidence unyeilding and stubborn aura. Lee Joon-Gi was magnificent as the young man brought up by a gangster uncle who learnt to never backdown but stand your ground in all situations of conflict and contention. He showed his assurance determination and absolute fearlessness in every environment making sure that his evidence, documentation and data backs up what comes out of his mouth. Then there were the combative actions, balance and harmony in the fighting sequences. They totally were coordinated, harmonious and rhythmical never missing a beat and just catching the audiences wonderment and appreciation. Lee Joongi face was a picture of belligerence, hostility and animosity before Choi Min-soo. Choi Min-soo is so much stronger and bigger than Lee Joongi but both had advantageous and aggressive martial arts skills that made them completely suited to part and both are confident. Choi Min-soo fights likes a street fighter. Lee Joongi has his his kicks and aerials but his smaller body and lighter weight was a disadvantage. They both knew the gangster creed. Keep fighting to a standstill or until one gives up. On the ground Lee Joongi reverted to his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu where he had the advantage. It was so superb to review this outstanding, stunning and superior drama once again. I so love it. The last three episodes Wow! It is so exceptional I was savouring every moment and replaying and repeating parts that I enjoyed. Must watch it again.

Amazing Story line
merrilanil1 September 2020
The story just blew my mind. through the 16 episodes, the way the story arced was definitely that I couldn't anticipate. I would say ending was a hasty one but then again it was something you could foresee.

The series purely takes away with the brilliance of the script. Each character was given us a meaty chunk to perform and work on that every character felt like had a valid reason to be on the screen.

well except the ones who were planted for the comedy purpose (the gang that followed our main character). That is the one thing that I couldn't hoot for in the series.

Clearly the writer of the series was made to write thrillers and action and comedy was not the main forte of the writer. The comedy scenes, if you could count them as, was so forceful and plain to watch but other than that the series is absolutely entertaining and engaging

I fought the law
alaningle710 November 2021
A totally ruthless judge steps on anybody and anything that impedes her rise to the top of the Judiciary. The only people who can stop her are the lawless lawyers, led by Lee Joon-gi and Seo Yea-ji. Both of them have links from childhood when their mothers were possibly murdered under they believe the orders of the Judge. A well acted series from all the cast and enough twists and turns to keep your interest to see if justice will be served.

Amazing Crime Story! But do not re-elect the Mayor!
Ro-atthemovies8 November 2021
This series was really good with the exception of one thing, Choi Min Su's cartoonish portrayal of Ahn Oh Joo! He was really hard to watch! Terrible annoying gangster impression. Even the voice he used sounded fake. But don't let the stop you from watching this series. The best part were the two leads. Much praise for Lee Joon-Gi and Seo Ye-Ji. Both really good actors, believable in their roles. Lee Hye-yeong gets an honorable mention, she was a nice mix or classy public figure and devious witch behind closed doors. Lots of good action scenes, intriguing intertwining story, good courtroom scenes, and Romance, made for an enjoyable series.

Interesting concept...but held back by some aspects :/
alexandermarchack19 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This would be my first K-drama review, and its a little different than how I would typically review something. But it is still possible to breakdown the show with characters, plot and visuals.

In terms of characters as a protagonist Bong Sang pil is definitely different, and I think the feel is definitely like "Daredevil" with the primary antagonist being someone in a position of power who is untouchable moving pieces behind the scenes. With these two primary forces driving the show for the most part, that's where it is the most strong. This is very much daredevil vs. The kingpin which is why I enjoyed it from that aspect.

The female lead and her mother have....questionable actions and I found myself frequently screaming "What are you doing??". Also the side characters are kind of just...there for comedic relief and don't particularly have any depth. Even the secondary antagonist feels like a looming threat (Anh Oh Ju - Gangster Mayor) but then he never really does anything to act on that feeling.

In terms of visuals I would say the show is passable? It is just another K-drama set in a city, so nothing really special here. What I could note is that I have never seen as much fight choreography in a show which was really nice to see. On top of this mixed with the court scenes, it worked to make it overall enjoyable. However there were some cheesy scenes/acting that take away from the vibe that the show was giving.

Plot overall was strong as I mentioned earlier, with the two forces constantly going at each other, culminating in a final fight using the law. This is a strong thread throughout the show, and everything pays off in the end. There are twists and turns here and there to spice things up as well.

Conclusion Lawless Lawyer is an enjoyable K-Drama with a compelling protagonist and a strong plot. However it is held back back weird character choices and some bad acting/scenes.

Ahn oh Joo character stood out... for the wrong reason
dumsumdumfai22 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Man, that gangster wanted to steal screen time but is caught overacting. This ruins the show for me.

Overacting is fairly rare in kdramas but this one is so obvious and over the top that it's painful to watch. The story is rather straight forward. Good vs bad, revenge with dirty cops, past history, gangster, corrupted judge and a lawless lawyer that uses the brain and Braun.

I'm up to EP 7 and its dragging a bit. Obvious love story developing, internal turmoil in the corrupted 7. Someone just came back from the dead and the good guys seems to be in trouble. But of course they will turn around. There must be a few twist and secret weapons like the prosecutor...sigh.

So the bad guy turned as witness against the judge at the end. Alright, just barely. Not wasting more paragraphs.

Great!
grumpyredrose22 July 2019
This drama series is the type where at the start it will make you think "ok, so now what?" But as it goes on, you will not stop watching this. It took the original form of films, or series wherein in you start at the bottom and as it goes up the peak, the momentum is unstoppable.

Cast was great. It was just great. There was a love angle, but the drama did not concentrated on that angle, which was a great move! It was straight forward, pace was fast, and Lee Joon Gi was good as usual. Action parts were also great. You can't expect less from Lee Joon Gi when he does all the action stunts.

I recommend highly recommend this drama.

underrated if u ask me... very good and well done a bit basic and generic in many ways but well executed
imdbmoviereviews9 May 2020
Not much to say reallly... thw writing is good but simple nothing original or too uniqe but done nicely

everything about it screams simplicity from the music to camera shots and story telling... but still done very well

some charcters are a bit much.. (mostly side kicks) and steroothypical isn't the right words but...."unusual" at the lack of a better word

i do suggest you watch this series from a purly anylitical point of view there's no much reason for it to get any score higher then 7 but everything just seems to come togther very well...

(full disclaimer i haven't yet finished the series so obviously my score could change but so far i definatlly recommend)

Disappointing
kumarswapnil-1928130 December 2021
After a well-off start, the story lacks direction. Neither the protagonist nor the antagonist displayed charisma. I enjoyed some of the episodes in bits and pieces, but it was hard to watch all the episodes without fast forwarding. It tries to put numerous surprise elements which seems to be pathetic after a certain extent. Still, you can watch it if you're out of options.

Another outstanding drama from LJG and team
Rita_Roy5 August 2021
LJG has a knack of turning out really high quality work, irrespective of how few roles he is in. All of his work is different - edgy, interesting, deep. This one is no different. There are countless dramas about the courtroom but this one is more than a legal drama. It has superb action, revenge as its background theme, fabulous complex villains, beautifully etched side characters, and just a fabulous lead pair that make the whole relationship come alive.

Choi Min Soo and Lee Hye Young are absolutely and wonderfully nuanced in their villainous roles. Everyone did a terrific job. And every minute watching it is well spent.

Thank you Lawless Lawyer team - the director (Kim Jin Min), the scriptwriter (Yoon Hyun-ho), the cast, and everyone else behind the scene that brought so much joy to all who enjoyed it.

Intriguing Crime Drama!
morebon13 September 2019
Wonderfully captivating crime drama! Stellar acting by the antagonist Lee Hye Young (Judge Cha). Her character sure kept me on the edge, and intrigued my curiosity as to what antics she was going to produce next. Extraordinary performance by Lee Joon Gi and Seo Ye Ji! Like others, I initially was drawn to the series because of Joon Gi (*swoon*), but I have to say, the entire Lawless Law Firm cast was marvelous! Brilliant writing and narrative! Absolutely fabulous drama!

A Great Watch
meetikagupta25 September 2020
Lee Joon Gi never disappoints. He is the saving grace of the drama. I did start watching for him and ended for him. The story is good and there was just a touch of romance. However, the script fell flat in the middle of the series. There was no progress in between which is very common for kdramas hence, the only one who motivated me to keep going here was Lee Joon Gi. I am the type of person who stops watching a kdrama at 11th or 12th episode and just reads the update because by that time the drama usually has fallen flat but this drama had me going only for Bong Sang Pil. I loved the character alongwith the actor. Bong Snag Pil had different dynamics to himself which were fun and interesting to watch. Also, Lee Joon Gi portrayed it all amazingly. His action scenes were a treat to watch. If you are a Lee Joon Gi fan, do not miss this and if not, still it is a pretty good watch if you like law jargons and action. Also, if you are looking for a light hearted watch then go for it.

It's a series with a good story but a bad execution. They failed to make proper use of such talented cast ensemble. The character development is almost absent because the story seems so hurried. Watch it when you're all out of options!
