Very stiff acting, line delivery and the editing could've been much better. A lot of extended character exposition to drive home points and stature. The POV was the overall focus from both the good guys and bad guys to create discussion. a few bright spots but not feature film quality and definitely made for streaming.

I'm sorry I killed him.

Warning: Spoilers
Chris Jones (Tobias Truvillion ) is a black police detective in NYC who get shot by a white detective, returns fire and kills him. There is racial tension and Chris has to go find a radio.
The film was Lifetime meets BET. Ice-T gave himself a small role because he knows he can't act like the rest of us. The gangbangers are the good guys. It didn't make a lot of sense with everyone acting so stupid.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Great story. Horrible acting. Bad dialogue writing. Still worth the watch.

This could have been done much better.
Better acting would have made this more bearable to watch. It was clear through most of the movie that many of the actors with speaking roles had no idea what they were doing.
Only one character was developed.
Ice-T was on the poster and only in three scene for a total of 1.5 minutes.
The dialogue writing was horrible. No one says "Yes. That is correct." when speaking to a colleague. Its "You got it" or "That's right" or even "That's correct".
Just bad writing.
However, the underlying story and what the film is trying to say makes it worth the watch.

Horrible

Lawd, this movie is a hot mess. The acting, or lack there of, is beyond horrendous. The writing is even worse. Then, the directing and production just solidifies the awfulness of this movie. The plot goes from zero to hundred in seconds, on multiple subject matters. It literally looks like all the characters wrote their own script and storyline and they never collaborated prior to filming. Everyone was on a different subject matter. Horrible!
And, for the love of God, PLEASE STOP CASTING SYLEENA JOHNSON IN ACTING ROLES! She can't act. She can barely sing. Bring real actors, actresses, writers and scripts back. This could have been done better. Too bad it wasn't.

Fantastic perspective

The storyline was relevant and on point but the acting was terrible. They would have been better off filming actual people in real day life. The actors including those who already have fame tried way too hard to "play a part."
A POWERHOUSE FILM

Movie boring at the end

The ending was bad. They should had a war with the crips and the bloods vs the cops. 15 people had guns and one cop and no body shot after a crip been shot? I wouldn't say bad acting. Just need more actions. Let the gangs hunt down the dirty cops. The people who broken in the house should have burned the house down or sprayed painted in side and out. I wouldn't mind seeing a part two. The person who left blood why they didn't show he getting caught behind that? I would say this movie wasn't a big let down. I don't know why i have to add 600 words just to post this but i have 20 more letters to go. Lol.
Perfect timing

This movie touches on all current situations and the problems we are facing currently. It tells a story from all sides, not just one side. A must see. I see this movie turning into a series to elaborate more on each character's back story.
A must see film!

I found this movie to be awesome. First Born Productions is a company that seemed to have joined Vimeo at least 6 years ago & Equal Standard is one of the first films I've seen promoted on Vimeo.
I personally love the movie but almost wish the rental was not $9.99. This was the challenge I had with the Tracie Ellis Ross movie - A High Note. A High Note was originally intended for the theater & they charged $19.99 to rent it. Then after only a month, they sold it for the public to keep permanently for $14.99.
I would gladly paid $14.99 up front for a full release of Equal Standard that I could keep. I think giving the customer more options might help. Otherwise I have nothing but a praises of the movie.

Not sure why the bad reviews

While I agree, the female lead Syleena Johnson cannot act her way out of a paper bag, this movie still was pretty decent. In fact, I nearly passed on it because of the low score. Ice T backed this movie from what I understand and I grew up a fan so I gave it a try.
This movie is interwoven stories that all connect in some way which is revealed later on in the movie. This technique has been used in films like Pulp Fiction and Crash. The movie is low budget but the story is still interesting and kept my attention. One thing that's scary is what if all the street gangs got together and called a truce. They'd easily outnumber law enforcement.
There's an underlying story here about a black cop killed by his own fellow cops. From there the perspectives of various characters set the tone for the movie. While it won't win any Oscars, it's still a decent watch.
