A Disgrace.....
eskimosound8 October 2020
Fat, cockney, unfit pig being rude to the locals, smoking and thinking he's Mafia, telling half-assed historically incorrect anecdotes. Who thought this was a good idea? Must be a Tax dodge. Avoid at all costs it will ruin your opinion of Ray Winstone as it did mine. He's a disgrace and a National embarrassment.

Appalling & creepy

A tour of Sicily that will offer up every excuse not to go there!

Ray Winston - a British citizen that speaks with a completely indecipherable form of speech! It's something like a mix of Cockney Bronx Brooklyn, etc. You try to listen to him, WTF. I think I understood about every third and a half word when he was trying to speak English. The entire show needs subtitles.

All the 'host' act like they are Godfather movie rejects or wanna-be's.

Sicily is a unique and fulfilling experience! It's a shame they gave the 'OK' for this series. I only made it through two episodes.

Utter rubbish
stewartbj-7134128 April 2021
Ray and pals wandering around Sicily, talking rubbish and reenacting scenes from the Godfather. Then, Ray has the nerve (or ignorance) to say, towards the end, that people shouldn't think Sicily is all about the Godfather. From the first episode, with Ray's mangled attempt to explain the story of the Odyssey and the group going into a shop looking for tools to cut up a body (ordinary 10 year olds would be beyond stupidity like that), I thought this would to be bad. I kept watching because I have never visited Sicily, and it is on my list of places to visit.

Even when not pretending to be gangsters, he got things wrong. High up iun the mountains ( it was Etna, I think, but not checking because I couldn't stomach watching this again), surrounded by snow on a Mediterranean island, he says Etna is 3000 feet high. Couldn't believe that, so I checked it. Etns is over 3,000 METRES high - nearly 11,000 feet, hence the snow in winter despite the comparitively low latitude (37 degrees N).

Still want to visit Sicily, despite this drivel.

So Disappointing
trugun-7258923 May 2022
Ray Winston was not the man for this job, playing the hard man all the time made the series boring in the extreme. Rays side kick Matt Lorenzo didn't make it any better his face resembled a "smacked behind" all the way through. This series could have been a showcase for Sicily but wound up boring, flat and incredibly moody. Ray Winston has certainly soured Sicily for me.

Entertaining, funny and showing in a positive light the rich culture and history of Sicily. Ray Winston and his friends on the journey are simply wonderful.

Brilliant

A proper old-school look at a great place, shot nicely and seen through the eyes of Britain's favourite hard man. Ray's passion for the island and chemistry with his two mates really shines through. A must-watch.

Warning: Spoilers
This show is brilliant! Ray Winstone could not care whether you like him or not, he's just hanging out with his mates and we're on HIS rambling tour of Sicily. Beautifully shot show and a really local look at what's great about this island. Definitely worth a watch, prepare to laugh a lot.

Ray Winstone at his best

Ignore the 1/10 review by a tin-eared American incapable of understanding British English. Winstone tells it like it is and gives an entertaining view of the fascinating Italian island that is so different from the rest of Italy. Good times with good mates in a great place, what could be better?

Very unique take on Sicily

I've never had so much fun watching someone who's clearly not Italian show me (an Italian) parts of the country that I've never seen.

From the lovely fish markets, to the goat cheeses and the history lessons...

Upbeat and clever, interesting and hysterically accurate portrayal of what tourists really do think feel and say.

I only wish that the show was longer, maybe it's time for a few more seasons. But first, some exposure to the show perhaps.

Thanks to Ray and crew for inspiring a whole new bunch of recipes that I never even knew existed before seeing the show.

The cold cucumber-ish soup almost blew .e off my chair because years ago I had a green tomato cosumme and never tasted anything like it since.

To see anything similar was inspiring.

Food has become rather boring lately, but Ray made it interesting all over again.
