With too much television, viewing every piece of content that is up for consideration for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations is impossible. With 163 drama series, 95 comedies, 51 limited or anthologies and 61 television movies, every TV-goer has their tastes.
Variety staffers have come together to curate its own dream Primetime Emmys ballot, with voting set to close at 10 p.m. Pt tonight.
However, it should be noted — we love consistency, especially in TV land.
With our selections, we want to continue to promote (and advocate) for the Television Academy to allow 10 nominees in the top series categories. In addition, we would love to see uniformity in the acting races or a performer felt like a leading entry as opposed to a supporting, then we recognized as such. We also combined all of the reality, variety and documentary into each of their respective races. Not every type of show needs its own category.

“You feel like you are in high school again,” admits Bryan Cranston about returning to the role of Walter White for two episodes during the final season of “Better Call Saul.” For our recent webchat he continues, “Oh I know this, this feels right, and it didn’t take much to lock back into that. You embrace the entirety of that experience. But at some point you have to not live in the past; you have to move forward. That’s the goal: to appreciate the past but move forward.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“Better Call Saul” closed out its seven-season run with an ambitious and acclaimed final season. The series tracked Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) becoming the sleazy but charming lawyer Saul Goodman. Walter White was the chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-kingpin who hired “Saul” in the Emmy winning drama series “Breaking Bad.” The last “Saul” episodes saw the shows’ timelines collide.

Nine years after he won his fourth and final acting Emmy for playing Walter White on “Breaking Bad,” Bryan Cranston has a solid shot at triumphing in the corresponding Best Drama Guest Actor category for reprising the role on the prequel series “Better Call Saul” on AMC. In fact, he has three chances to win at least his fifth acting Emmy this year since he could also earn notices for Best Movie/Limited Actor for Paramount Plus’ “Jerry and Marge Go Large” and for Best Drama Actor for Showtime’s “Your Honor.” If all three nominations come to fruition, he will be only the fourth person and second man to ever compete for three acting Emmys at once.

Heisenberg is entering the snack business.
Bryan Cranston will reprise his iconic “Breaking Bad” role in a Super Bowl ad for PopCorners, AdAge reports. The Frito-Lay brand teased the spot in December with a silhouette of Walter White standing in the desert, holding a big bag of white cheddar PopCorners.
While “Breaking Bad” ended in 2013, Cranston revived Walter White in cameos in 2019’s “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” and two episodes of the “Better Call Saul” final season, which aired in 2022.
Ahead of the Season 6 premiere of the “Breaking Bad” prequel series, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould told Variety on the red carpet, “These two worlds cross over in a way that you haven’t seen before, that’s for sure… It would be a damn shame if the show ended without [Cranston and Paul] appearing, would it not?”
This isn’t Cranston’s first foray into the food and beverage industry.

It's odd to think that there's a whole generation of people who only know Bryan Cranston as Walter White on "Breaking Bad," and not as the lovable sitcom dad from "Malcolm in the Middle." It was his role as the kind-hearted albeit often inept Hal Wilkerson on the show that had many scratching their heads when he was announced to lead "Breaking Bad," with the juxtaposition between the two roles often brought up in early reviews of the groundbreaking AMC series.
"Malcolm in the Middle" was a mainstay in the early '00s, nabbing a Peabody Award, seven Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and seven Golden Globe nominations throughout its run. The show was mainly focused on the titular middle child named Malcolm, played to perfection by Frankie Muniz.

The scammer is having a moment right now in Hollywood. We've seen everything from Tinder swindlers, to wannabe socialites, to would-be entrepreneurs — and in each instance, the scammer gets what's coming to them while the audience can briefly entertain the thought of being them before condemning them. Scammers always sit queasily in between sensation and schadenfreude: we admire them for their audacity, and maybe live vicariously through their bucking of social norms, but we also hold them in contempt for exploiting other people.
But what if there was a victimless scam? What if instead of...

Already among the most likable actors on the planet, Bryan Cranston (who even made villainy appealing in Breaking Bad) and Annette Bening are charm personified as Michigan retirees Jerry and Marge Selbee in the winningly schmaltzy movie Jerry & Marge Go Large, based on a true story. The spirit of Frank Capra looms large in this benign It’s a Wonderful Lottery fable, when analytical Jerry, at loose ends after a 42-year career at Kellogg’s, discovers a mathematical flaw in an out-of-state Powerball-style game. With the help of fun-loving Marge, who insists to Jerry, “You’ll find your way,” they score a small fortune playing the numbers, a bounty they’re more than happy to share with their struggling Michigan hometown where everyone knows everyone’s name. Rainn ...

If AARP launched a streaming service and produced its own “Breaking Bad” remake, it might look a lot like “Jerry and Marge Go Large” with Bryan Cranston as a folksy old man who gets some very bad news, then dips his toe into a risky new revenue stream without telling his wife.
That’s where the two projects diverge, and viewers of David Frankel’s latest get to watch a generic piece of fluff that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy without the burden of having to laugh or think.
Jerry Selbee (Cranston) thought he was the embodiment of the American Dream. A lifelong cereal-plant worker, he started working the night shift in high school and eventually found himself running the place. He and his wife Marge (Annette Bening) raised a couple of kids in the suburbs and they’re both grateful for everything they have. She wishes they could...

Bryan Cranston has played his share of fuddy-duddy straight arrows, and when you see him in “Jerry & Marge Go Large,” you may just think, “Oh, he’s doing it again.” But Cranston is too fine an actor to merely phone in another nerd. As Jerry Selbee, a cereal-factory middle manager in Evart, Michigan, who’s getting ready to begin his (forced) retirement, Cranston wears big wire-frame glasses, the kind of short-sleeve plaid shirts that come in shades of lavatory yellow-green, and a bristly conservative haircut that lends him a droid-like reserve. The character is every bit as wholesome, square, and aw-shucks genial as he looks. Cranston makes him a dry-voiced dweeb without edges or demons; he might be George H.W. Bush’s mild-mannered Midwestern cousin. Then again, we know there’s got to be some dimension to the guy or Bryan Cranston wouldn’t be playing him.

Jon Hamm is on a whirlwind press tour. The actor and his Top Gun: Maverick castmates started in San Diego, where they attended the film’s stateside premiere before flying to the Cannes Film Festival (then flew back out in less than a day). Next, they were off to London, all in pursuit of a grand return to movie theaters. This week, Hamm pivots to celebrating his Kafkaesque workplace satire Corner Office at the Tribeca Film Festival. Here, he opines about the film biz and post-pandemic recalibrations.
What do you remember about your first film festival?

Chicago – The binge world is abuzz with the anticipation of what actor Bryan Cranston will bring in reprising his Walter White character (‘Breaking Bad), in the prequel/sequel series ‘Better Call Saul.’ In the meantime, he has a branded tequila to promote, and photographer Joe Arce got the Exclusive Portrait.
As Joe Arce wrote, “They started lining up at midnight, some even coming from neighboring states” at Sal’s Beverage World in Villa Park, Illinois, welcoming the ‘Bad’-ass star Cranston, as he appeared on behalf of his brand liquor partnership with fellow Bb cohort Aaron Paul, “Dos Hombres” Mezcal Artesian Tequila. As Joe observed, “I spied both ‘Heisenberg’ hats and tats, and while I’m not saying there was a lot of pre-bottle-signing libation at 9:45am on a Sunday morning, there was definitely a celebratory atmosphere like welcoming a favorite Rock Star to town.”

When Amy Baer left her job as president and CEO of CBS Films in 2011, she decided to go into business for herself.
Though Baer had built an impressive résumé, including tenures at CAA and Sony Pictures Entertainment and overseeing and developing such hit films as “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “Moneyball,” she struggled to raise the few million dollars needed to launch Gidden Media.
“I wasn’t being presented the same kinds of opportunities as men that I knew who had very similar circumstances and were suddenly being handed massive deals,” Baer recalls. “It wasn’t because I didn’t want to raise the money. I knew how to write a business plan. I had dozens of meetings and ended up raising the funds from a person who had a high net worth who was willing, by virtue of a personal relationship, to invest in me. But you can’t rely on that.
