Billie Eilish, 22, and her brother Finneas O’Connell, 26, became the youngest two-time Oscar winners with their best original song Oscar win Sunday night.
The sibling collaborators’ “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie won at the 2024 Oscars. This marks the pair’s second Oscar win in the category, as they took home the award for “No Time to Die” in 2022.
When Eilish took the stage, she burst out laughing from excitement. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” joked the pop star. She admitted that she was “not expecting” to win again, but feels “so incredibly lucky and honored.”
She continued, “I’m grateful for this song and for this movie and the way that it made me feel. And, this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.”
Besides thanking Barbie director and co-screenwriter Gerwig, Eilish thanked her best friend Zoe Donahue...

February ushers in a new slate of movies and TV shows making their way to HBO and HBO Max, from a slew of James Bond movies to the recently released Olivia Colman-led “Empire of Light” to, yes, the Puppy Bowl.
“The Terminator,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Footloose,” “Taxi Driver” and “The Silence of the Lambs” all mark notable library offerings this month, in addition to “Superbad,” “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” and “Eighth Grade.”
Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.
HBO Max is also beefing up its sports offerings by streaming soccer matches featuring the U.S. national teams,...

Replacing an actor is never easy. Even when it’s done well, people are going to notice. Michael Gambon slipped seamlessly into Richard Harris’s Dumbledore role (all that face-obscuring hair must have helped). Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections put a fascinating spin on an old character. But more often, the change is jarring. The Witcher viewers aren’t exactly bating their breath for the recently announced protagonist switcheroo. So when it was confirmed yesterday that Justin Roiland would be replaced on Rick and Morty, it’s easy to understand why some of the show’s fans got twitchy.
Roiland’s departure is a significant one. As you might infer from the title, the hit Adult Swim sci-fi cartoon focuses primarily on two characters: genius scientist Rick and his nebbishy grandson Morty. Roiland voices both of them. He also served as co-creater on the series alongside Community’s Dan Harmon.

"Rick and Morty" has kept fans on their toes with new twists and turns every season, but fans aren't the only ones that look forward to new episodes. The voice actors are also excited about each upcoming season, and the show's creative animation adds to the suspense. The actors have no idea what each scene will look like, so much of the show is still a mystery to them even after they record their dialogue. Sarah Chalke, who voices Rick's daughter Beth, says that this is one of her favorite aspects of working on "Rick and Morty."
The Adult Swim series follows a hard-boiled alcoholic scientist, Rick, and his hapless teenage grandson, Morty. Their interdimensional travels lead them on wacky misadventures through space. As the series progresses, the rest of the family is both willingly and unwillingly roped into Rick's schemes. Beth's inner child seeks Rick's approval but she is...

Rick and Morty season 6 was never in doubt. In fact, it’s going to be awhile before another season of Rick and Morty is in doubt again.
Following season 3 of the beloved animated series, Adult Swim and Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland reached a deal that ordered a whopping 70 more episodes! Twenty of those episodes came to pass in seasons 4 and 5 and the next batch is set to arrive soon when season 6 premieres this fall.
Just because Rick and Morty season 6 was inevitable, however, doesn’t mean that its network isn’t interested in hyping up the announcement. Adult Swim revealed the Rick and Morty season 6 release date to press with an accompanying gushing statement from network president Michael Ouweleen.
“It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon,” Ouweleen said. “As we...

Ahead of Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfronts presentation, Adult Swim has made announcements including a series order for “Rick and Morty: The Anime” and the Season 6 renewal of “The Eric Andre Show.”
Based on the hit adult animated comedy, “Rick and Morty: The Anime” will debut with 10 episodes on Adult Swim and HBO Max. Takashi Sano serves as director, after previously directing the anime shorts “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” The series is from Telecom Animation Film.

I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
Adult Swim also greenlit animated series “Ninja Kamui.

“Dying isn’t simple, is it?” Those words repeat through Christopher Makoto Yogi’s “I Was a Simple Man,” calling frequent attention to the film’s title, and to its curious use of the past tense. It frames the cancer-stricken final days of Masao Matsuoshi (Steve Iwamoto) in the context of someone who’s only thinking about the mess of people caught in his web now that his body has run out of filament and they’re all forever enmeshed.
Not that Yogi holds that against him. Layering the spectral hush of “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” over the elegiac domesticity of a late Ozu film like “An Autumn Afternoon,” the Honolulu-born filmmaker’s singularly Hawaiian second feature is haunted and haunting in equal measure — a reckoning pitched at the volume of a whisper. Just because people don’t stay behind doesn’t mean they ever leave.

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’: Jason Reitman Pays Tribute to Tarantino’s ‘Los Angeles Masterpiece’
Read more from Variety’s Directors on Directors, in which filmmakers praise their favorite movies of the year, here.
A city deserves an auteur. A director laureate. New York has Scorsese. Paris has Truffaut. Madrid has Almodovar. I mean, Omaha has Alexander Payne.
Los Angeles has Tarantino.
The birth of “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Jackie Brown” marked more than the arrival of rock ’n’ roll cinema. Each film was a picture of L.A. as seen through the windshield of an Angeleno who grew up on freeways and was born from the racks of VHS tapes. If examined under a microscope, we can only presume that the strands of Tarantino’s DNA would have film sprockets.
With “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” he has crafted a Los Angeles masterpiece. Like all of his work, it is somehow both languid and electric. Hilarious and terrifying. Formalist and completely inventive.
