That's all I have to say. Repetitive scenes, repetitive lines, no soul in the story . What were they thinking?? Such a waste of time.

VIEWS ON FILM review of Friendsgiving
burlesonjesse531 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The setting is palm-treed November. The place is clearly near Los Angeles. The tone is obvious and bawdy. Basically a bunch of pseudo friends who are their only friends, get together to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. They bicker, smug it up, and get their swerve on. That's the rub of the almost plot-less and imposed, Friendsgiving.
Starring a bunch of known troupers, shot in 2018, and produced by Ben Stiller, Friendsgiving is yet another unfunny comedy that probably came out twenty years too late. Just imagine a more inappropriate version of The Family Stone, Love the Coopers, or The Wilde Wedding and you're making headway. Add a touch of 2013's The Big Wedding and This Is Where I Leave You and your ode to grumbling, brood endeavors is complete.
Friendsgiving is directed by rookie Nicol Paone. Unwilling to give her editor some sage advice, she lets the film wander with talky scenes that mostly flop or die. A baby sucks on the nipples of a male. A mother gets drunk and takes shrooms. That same mother makes out with a same sex house guest as her daughter walks in. Another guest talks through the entire movie with recent Botox injections. Heck, I kept wondering if Friendsgiving even had a point to all of its insouciant shenanigans.
The stunning Malin Akerman, Kat Dennings, Jane Seymour, and Aisha Tyler round out Friendsgiving's eager cast. They try their best to be witty and funny but they should've known that the script didn't look good on paper. These ladies while plucky, unintentionally annoy the audience threefold.
All in all, Friendsgiving is a 95-minute, chi-chi marathon in which a bunch of good-looking weirdos try their hardest to avoid being unlikable. I like stuffing and yams but Friendsgiving has too much of both (yams meaning "yammering"). There's nothing to be "thankful" for here.

Terrible acting and corny script
yellowwassenaar28 October 2020
One of the worst comedies I've seen in recent years. Malin Akerman is only one who is acting okay, somewhat believable, but that's where it ends. Christine Taylor who cannot talk due to plastic surgery or whatever, so forced. Then the main actress who plays Abby is just annoying AF. I only watched it because Wanda Sykes among others is in this, but unfortunately movies with a lot of known actors is usually a recipe for non-success in comedies. Rarely does it work out. This one is a serious cash grab for most of them I'm sure. It's just odd, from the cringeworthy drunk life lesson to a child to the weird sexual innuendo, gestures and lines. This seems to be written by a stoned teenager. Someone gets his nipple sucked was awkward, but probably the funniest moment, that should tell you everything you need to know.
This movie needs major editing

I'm still in the process of watching and 45 minutes in, I'm still waiting for something to happen. It's basically random characters just droning on after showing up to this house for dinner. I don't know their story, why they're able to show up at the drop of a hat with dish in hand for Thanksgiving. I don't even understand how they're all friends or why they all act the way they do towards each other.
Totally boring movie with slow pacing. Who is greenlighting these awful projects?

Abby (Kat Dennings) is relieved to have a small thanksgiving with best friend Hollywood actress Molly Erickson (Malin Akerman). It's not what Abby expected as more people show up.
Everybody is trying to be wacky and it ends being rather annoying. The consent lesbian is a little funny for about two seconds. Kat Dennings has her sarcastic moments. All in all, those moments are few and fleeting. These characters get wackier and more annoying. Maybe... just maybe, Abby and Molly could build up some more friendship chemistry at the beginning which would carry on to a compelling evolution towards the end. It all boils down to filmmaker Nicol Paone. I have to question her directing skills. She really needs to do a few more rewrites before putting anything on film.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!

Not sure what people are talking about here. I LOVED THIS MOVIE. It was hilarious with a heart. The two lead characters were well thought out and everyone around them was hilarious. I think this is a great LGBTQ comedy without being too heavy-handed about it. Malin Akerman and Kat Dennings have great chemistry!
Not all Bad

I turned this flick on because the Mrs. likes rom coms, so what the heck I thought. I'm more of a drama or gangster flick watcher, but good comedy is good comedy. Honestly, Deon Cole is the only reason I watched.
This movie was a lil messy and seemed a bit improvisational in many scenes, but it had its funny moments. One minute I'd be like what am I watching and the next I was cracking up. The bathroom scene with Cole, Tyler and Dennings almost had me cough up a lung I laughed so hard. Anyhow, it was a cool, offbeat indie flick.

Most boring movie in last 10 years

Awful, couldn't even finish the last half hour

Poorly written. Awkward and forced relationships. Boring story. Such a waste of time. When I got towards the last quarter of the movie, I couldn't care less how it ended or what happened to the under developed and misdirected characters.
Awful

Bad. Just bad. And LA wonders why we laugh at it.
thejdrage24 February 2022
This is a raunchy movie with few, if any, redeeming qualities. I watched it to see Wanda Sykes. Not worth it. Not worth it for Sandra Oh. Not worth it for Fortune either.
None of the cliche characters were likable. None. Jane Seymour got Swedish and Irish accents mixed up. THAT was the best joke in the movie.
It's another movie slamming LA - and they wonder why we laugh at LA and it's population. In fact, they get cranky about it. Next time, I'll tell them to watch this movie as a prime example of how they are portrayed.
One reviewer said the outtakes were the best part of it. I beg to differ. They were 10 times worse than the movie.
So, all in all, a total waste of time for everyone involved in making it and watching it. At least our time in only less than 2 hours. But, we didn't get paid.
All that said, if you like raunchy movies - you'll love it!!

Warning: Spoilers
This was a bad movie that makes me question the creativity and talent of the 'big names' associated with it. So many things were just wrong - from the endlessly whiny Abby, to Jane Seymour's strange accent that was definitely not Swedish, to the boyfriend who didn't wear a shirt while preparing food or eating at a table where everyone else is dressed, to the ex-boyfriend who conversely wore a jacket and scarf the entire time in spite of the fact that the action is taking place in California. This is a movie that appears to have been put together thoughtlessly, hastily, with no depth, and no reward whatsoever.

Good enough watch, could watch again, and can recommend.
I'm not a big fan of Malin Ackerman, but she manages to a great job in this, floating back and forth between personalities as the character tries to find herself.
Kat Dennings' character is a little annoying, but she seems to have fun with it.
This is the movie that makes me realize that I hate Chelsea Peretti and she was barely tolerable on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine".
This movie is made for a very particular audience, and if I have try to deduce what that is, then it is likely women with trouble lives, in family or love.
It's a fun roller coaster of every bad Thanksgiving story you've heard of, but possibly from more affluent people with normal problems that don't actually affect their lives realistically.
This really is a good enough, but I feel it is right on the edge.

Enjoyable but not great.
jholmanska-9451410 February 2021
It's not a great film but a film with some great lines. I think some people expected it to be a Happy Madison type of comedy production, it's not that. It kinda reminded me of a modern The Big Chill type of film without the insightful depth. I thought the cast was great and seemed natural with their roles. I give it about a 6.5/ 10. Not a great film, but enjoyable.
What's funny about this film? Nothing
marchelle-541329 February 2022
The first 10 minutes seemed like it would be a good movie, then it just went downhill. I kept watching, waiting for comedy moments from a "chaotic night of illicit activity and comprising situations" as described by netflix. However, with 8 minutes left of the movie I have given up.
Also, what is funny about parents getting drunk and high on shooms in front of their young children? 🤷♀️.
A disappointing film. That I had to leave playing until the end just so it wouldn't show up In my 'continue watching' section.
I watched my kettle boil for the last 8 mins, much more entertaining 😂.

+1 star for the outtakes
