Originally intended as a gory film for the adult audience, it later became film about family and brotherhood as the makers wanted teenagers to watch it and learn not to indulge in criminal activities.
Actress Lee Shi-Ah, who plays the role of a judge in the film, said that the role was unlike what she had done before and took it because "sounded fun".
Having played a number of romance/comedy roles, Cheon Jeong-myeong wanted to do a "manly" film and change the public perception of him. He said he was "hooked in by the charm of the film".
