Starting to lose me
johnrussellnunley14 April 2022
I've been sticking up for this show for 3 episodes now. Saying just wait for the action. And I'm beginning to think they wasted the action budget on the opening 10 minutes of 1st episode!

I'm sorry the made up Kwan-Ha story isn't interesting. And she's starting to come off as annoying and desperate to walk in her fathers shoes.

Talking about the covenant weapons was cool but how bout you guys show them? And show some of the aliens fighting against master chief because that's what happens in Halo!

This is becoming a complete yawn fest and I can't keep sticking up for it!

A bit boring.
alekslang14 April 2022
The show needs more action and not all the soap opera stuff, and the storyline about kwan ha is so boring, I want to see Spartans, covenants and storylines about that.

It's based on a action game so it better step up and not end up like Boba Fett.

She doesn't tolerate glitches.
bosporan14 April 2022
Kai-125 seeing Cortana help Master Chief remove his emotion-suppressing hormone-pellet has consequences, some surprising.

Slower and more reflective than last week, though we do get a better understanding of the world and the character relationships. Dialogue is variable, in groups it is stilted and preachy, but one-to-one is generally much better. In addition, we still suffer the occasional plot dump monologue. The cgi is tastefully understated, particularly the HUD reconstructions and the flashback de-ageing of Halsey. Kate Kennedy (Kai) performs with subtlety, portraying much through body language and tone.

Not as strong as Emergence, nonetheless a decent episode.

Boring and Slow
sumtim3s00n14 April 2022
And this is coming from someone who tremendously enjoyed episodes of Star Trek where most of the episode it was just Picard talking or Hitchcock's films like Rope, all happening in the same room.

But this show is like the last season of ST Discovery. Stretched out plot-wise like bubblegum with very few entertaining, more plot crucial scenes, peppered here and there. But mostly just cheap scenes, where they lead in with a CGI panoramic folowed by low budget single place stretched out scenes.

This episode could be cut down by 80%+ percent without losing anything.

Just dump the Madrigal subplot
thegamer-0064217 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode we explore 3 subplots that are developing and ranging from pretty good to outright boring and skippable. First one being John, 117, exploring his old home with doctor halsey and her assistant. This subplot is, on this episode the best and is done pretty damn well in terms of CGI, acting and plot. There's just some small tweaks like how john should probably have had the helmet on more to not show him as a normal weak human but something in between a spartan and what he's developing into.

The second subplot, although pretty short, is the 3 spartans at the base. We learn that one of them removed the "feelings blocker" and now has, feelings. It's pretty decent although feels forced and simply undermines the image of spartans being what they are, cold killing machines.

Now the last subplot and god damn I don't understand why they decided to add this. It has so far nothing to do with the main plot, the young girl who we're supposed to root for I guess is extremely annoying and acts like an entitled brat. Showing up to her planet and after about 1h or so visiting her dads mourning only to shout and call everyone a traitor like what the hell!? The "evil" guy is honestly more appealing than her and I wouldn't mind if it ended with him at the top, still in control.

Overall, John subplot: pretty nice, Madrigal subplot: scrap it.

Though im asian n i should support asians but Kwan Ha as a character is just terrible or maybe its the actress? Im not sure which but ya they need to cut her from Season 2. Her character doesnt even make sense why Master Chief saved her and all this they go through to keep her alive and her character is annoying n waste of time and even worse is her screams n yells is like annoying and terrible.

Plz plz plz cut her in Season 2!

What is this show trying to be?
namob-4367314 April 2022
I keep getting these vibes that this show want to be another The Expanse mixed with some Babylon 5 and tiny bits of Aliens and even some Star Trek once in a while. Is that what Halo is supposed to be? I am not a big fan of the games, and have no idea really, but it feels like this should be more action-y, more fights, more shootings. It is a war on, but except for in the first excellent episode we see very little of that.

This is also the first episode of the show with pacing way off. Mainly it is the side quest with a tiny Asian girl, who seem very out of place, that drags the show. At least the main quest trying to find the thing to fit into the thing so they can find out something so they can move on to the next quest, feels like it is moving along and has something to do with the story. That asian survivor from the first episode is just there, and she is a bad actress.

I still like this show because the main storyline is intriguing, most of the other actors are great and the visuals are beautiful. Music score, set pieces, directing it is all top. But this is starting to get a bit boring. Up the pace, have a few more space battles (which this should be about...?) and get rid of that side quest that fill no function and we have a pretty good show.

I give this a generous 7/10. Although I agree with many other complaining about the show, it is not as bad as many claim. This is actually pretty good, just get on with it already.

Why the constant helmet removal?
tdsearles2518 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was willing to forgive the first couple instances of Master Chief removing his helmet. But now, it seems the writers are looking for every possible chance for him to show his face.

It seems to forced and stupid. A Spartan would constantly and continually lower his guard in unknown worlds and locations? Just really getting annoying and makes Master Chief appear out of character.

These reviews are whack.....
wyattsriots14 April 2022
Look I'm mainly rating this a 10 because I do think this is some great science fiction that people are judging to harshly. For example, they claim this episode is boring, slow and with no shootouts.... There literally is one; it's just not with the character they expected it with and the enemy they expected it to be with. I know that doesn't make sense, but I'm trying to make as much sense without spoiling it. If you're a fan of science fiction than this episode is for you. It explores more of the cool worlds, build on the characters, plot, and yes action. Just because there isn't a shootout every scene doesn't mean a show is boring. Learn to have an open mind Halo video game fans. I've literally played the game since I was five and love the stories the show is telling; even if it's slightly different than the one's I'm used too. It's a great show and another fun episode. The biggest flaw is the Madrigal plot. Does this episode have a lot of Soren and Kwan,? Yes. But it can't be a show with the Chief being a badass with his armor on for 40 mins. Yes this season has started a bit slow, but the world is so interesting and I believe the pay off will be worth it.

Why am I still watching?
rasmus_pcgaming15 April 2022
Can we move on with the freaking story? The writers are clearly stalling with uninteresting sidestorys. I dont care about that side character, I want to follow Master Chief, which is a character that I'm still somewhat interested in. Halo is my childhood, really want this show to become better and I'm inhaling some insane copium right now.

Another meh episode due to little rebel girl.....
veryprivateswag14 April 2022
As it stand this show is boring due to not enough action in the right places...frankly who care about little rebel girl?

She is boring and uninspired and I just want to skip her parts to get back to Master Chief. This little rebel girl story line is making the show feel cheap like an old 80's low budget apocalyptic show or tv movie......

The show loses 5 stars from my rating just cause rebel girl is in it and thus I want to skip half of each episode basically.

Best one so far
georgvelis15 April 2022
I really enjoyed this episode so you can imagine my surprise when i saw the average rating.

I have to note that I am not familiar with the storylines of the games, so I understand that people might dislike this as an adaptation and feel like this isn't the show they wanted from a Halo show. But, imo at least, this is a genuinely good episode of tv. The story, characters and world are interesting, and this could evolve into a great show.

Kwan Ha is the most annoying character in the series
jimmyfalcon6916 February 2024
1 Kwan Ha is the most annoying character in the series: I don't care about it, I don't feel anything for it, so please kill it faster! The haircut and the appearance don't make it pleasant. The development of Kai's story and Master Chief's one are enough to get the series going, so no need for Kwan's boring story.

2 I like Kai Spartan's development more than Master Chief's who has no facial expressions and he doesn't make me feel something special about him. They could have picked another guy for the role, sincerely speaking.

3 We need more action between Humans/Spartans and the Covenant (but CGI cost money and they don't have too much of it I guess). There is too much talking like I am watching some boring political debate.

My initial hopes for this show are slowly fading away.
fciocca14 April 2022
"Halo" should be an action-packed show. Where are the shootouts between Spartans and Covenants? I do not perceive this universe as dangerous, I do not have the feeling that there is a war. Instead we see characters going around the galaxy mumbling. The entire storyline of Kwan is very distracting and was clearly made to fill up episodes. Screenwriters are stalling, it takes just too long to see a development. We are stuck on this artifact for three episodes now, just find the device and move on with the plot. At this point there is no character progression anymore, the audience already understood what happened to John as a child since episode 2, there is no need to reiterate the same information over and over again. I kinda liked how creators are evolving the relationship between Miranda Keyes and Kai-125, let's just hope that screenwriters did not ruin this as well.

So boring I started watering the plants
ZEROspawn15 April 2022
Why is this so boring, I mean it's technically sci-fy, but it just feels so much more like a teen drama. It's properly a 2 star show, but so many keep praising it and giving it 10 stars like it's bots or something.

It seems the writers don't know sciences or biology, as they keep doing stupid things and just hand weaving it away with more drama. Not only are spartans nothing in this show, they are also highly emotional all the time even with a "implant" or beat in the back that is said to remove them, it does not work, properly because it isn't connected to any tissue as it pops right out with no effort or surgery.... It's so dumb it hurts.

First really troublesome episode
kinodavai14 April 2022
For the first time in a season, the episode was little boring. It has good moments, including John's flashback and Kai's epiphany. But Kwang Ha's storyline is very boring. I have no complaints about the actress herself, but the storyline makes very little sense.

And doing as many as 3 episodes of "Halo" without action is a very controversial decision.

The Flood?
dweezel1977-973-71238920 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
***Sigh*** I hope that the incurable disease that killed Master Chief's planet is "The Flood." My campaign with the Halo series of games began with it.... Ended with the second installment. (More Covenant than anything.)

World building and setting up the characters
Kutalpm14 April 2022
It was a high quality episode.

Spartans look cool. Kai fits perfect in her role.

The tension between hayley and MC is done very good.

But the Madrigal team needs to work on their green screen / color matching or they need more stuff.

I can't still get the feeling of exploration from this show. They are finding the second key stone, I'm like: ok it was in a cave now what. As an example could be Inception. They enter the dream world and you want to explore everything there. Here they change worlds and I feel nothing. They have to work on that to make this a masterpiece.

Homecoming
bobcobb30121 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It did drag on for a little bit, but at the same time it felt like a necessary episode to explore more of John and Halsey.

Dragged, but still a fairly entertaining hour or so of TV.

Good story building
jjpscott0115 April 2022
Not an action packed episode but I still really like how they're building this story. Giving master chief this much time for back story is making us care for the character more and I think if they time it right it will really pay off in the end. One thing that struck me tonight is how much I like the sound design in this show.

So boring I feel asleep 4 times.
aleksey-4886816 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I use IMDb as a resource to help me determine if a show or movie is worth my precious and very expensive time, after 8 years of being an IMDb user I was finally pushed over the edge to create an IMDb account just to leave a review for this show.

To start I had high hopes for episode 4 due to episode one having GREAT halo/covenant action, 3 more episodes in my hopes have started tragically dying. After Inviting 2 friends to watch the new halo episode 4 we made food, got snacks, made some drinks, to enjoy an "action packed" episode, and 13 minutes into the show I found myself SO bored out of my mind that I passed out cold, and spilled my drink.

After waking up because of the drink I spilled on my crotch, I had to forcefully hold my eyes open to watch through the brutally boring annoying ass asian girl trying to rescue her home planet from some dude that took over since her father passed away, SPOILER ALERT. Asian chick LITERALLY finds out that her dads destiny to protect their planet was all a made up scam by some desert people he met when he was out exploring years ago, and after she hears of this life changing information she (NO JOKE) says to her mother " I NeED To fINd tHe dEsERt PeOpLe", her storyline was already boring enough, and now I understand her side quest will go on to keep searching for the desert people. (Who the hell cares about the desert people, show us some freakin action already !!!)

My friends were bored out of their mind as well, and we as a group of hardcore halo fans have decided to put this show in the grave and not continue watching.

Hollywood you had one job, and you blew it yet again.

I haven't played the game.
daxtipipi16 April 2022
I haven't played the game. But I enjoy the series. I loved this episode. It doesn't have action sequences (just one) but there is so much tension in some scenes that keeps the adrenaline on high levels.

As far as I understand, the series has nothing to do with the game. Maybe it is a series for the rest of the people.

I hope it will become more enjoyable for the players and hardcore fans, too.

Another over emotional stupid girl.....
SallyWilliams15 April 2022
Haven't we seen that too often already ? Why do writers always take these worn-out ideas ? And also, a little more action would be fine. I never played Halo, and I don't need an ego shooter series, but just playing Indiana Jones without any action isn't what I expected. I'll give it 1 more episode before I quit.

Don't listen to the review bombing whinging /r/halo incels
klausziegz15 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Homecoming" continues to lay the groundwork and foundation of John-117 aka "The Masterchief" and the Halo universe that this show takes place in (which is a separate universe than the games). More screen time from the other Spartans has been great. Kai-125 taking her emotion regulator out and conversing in a sisterly way with Miranda Keyes was a really nice way to humanize both Miranda and the Spartans. The flashback scene at Chief's family home was really cool, and I especially enjoyed the coin flipping scene as a book reader.

Pablo Schreiber delivers another stellar performance as the Chief. Kate Kennedy, Natasha McElhone, and Olive Gray deliver great performances for their respective characters.

The only part that drags is the Kwan/Soren storyline, as it still remains to be seen how this is going to relate to the main narrative.

The show is good, and is slowly building towards the initial Halo reveal (which I would guess is coming towards the end of Season 1). My guess is a lot of the people leaving negative comments have never read the books, so they don't know what "plot development" or "exposition" is and just want the show to be 95% CGI fights between the chief and the covenant (get over yourselves).

Overall one of the stronger episodes, 8/10.

Getting very interesting
hamskillen20 April 2022
Tbh the hate is too harsh, this episode was very interesting. The mystery with chief and how he finds the next artifact as well as what ahppened between him and halsey. As a halo fan, im really intrigued in the direction this is going, its a good different that many people seem to blow out of proportion. Im excited to see how the story pans out.
