The Bloomquist brothers, director Erik and co-writer Carson are back with their second film this year, following up their summer camp horror She Came from the Woods with Founders Day. Billed as a political slasher has an interesting history to it. The original concept dates back to 2011, and a script that was considered for inclusion in Project Greenlight. They even made a conceptual trailer for it before the project collapsed. And what better time to revive it than now in a time of political division and violence?
In the town of Fairwood, two things are fast approaching, its 300th anniversary and the election of its next mayor. The race is a contentious one, the first image we see is of a campaign sign being destroyed.

Kathryn Newton is inevitably one of the best actresses of this generation. Yet, her recent onscreen performances aren’t quite catching fire at box offices the same way they did before. Just like how her Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) managed to gross almost thrice its budget, her recent Ant-Man 3 failed to land the mark and ended with a disappointing box office run.
Kathryn Newton in The Society
As it seems, that losing box-office streak of hers isn’t dying down easily. This comes after her most recent movie Lisa Frankenstein suffered a devastating blow at the worldwide box office to end its run with a gross even less than its budget. Despite this, her fans still have high hopes for this film, even predicting that it would go on to become a cult classic following its release on streaming.

Kathryn Newton channeled her inner “Lisa Frankenstein” for a special screening of the film at the Hollywood Athletic Club, donning a dramatic black corseted Vera Wang gown with exaggerated tulle hips.
“There was no other dress option. I have a little heart I took from my last boyfriend,” Newton told Variety on the black carpet, pointing to her blood-red heart-shaped choker and giggling, “Just kidding – I don’t have a boyfriend!”
In the film from Zelda Williams, Newton’s Lisa and a re-animated corpse dubbed “The Creature” (Cole Sprouse) embark on a murderous journey to make him whole by claiming some of his missing body parts from the living. Even though Sprouse doesn’t speak a single word in Diablo Cody’s campy script, communicating only through grunts, Newton says they had no trouble selling their chemistry.
“Have you looked at Cole Sprouse? It’s very easy to have chemistry.

Kathryn Newton Talks ‘Lisa Frankenstein,’ Young Avengers, ‘Big Little Lies 3’ and ‘Freaky Death Day’
Kathryn Newton’s feature film career continues to bear fruit.
Just five years ago, she was a series regular on two hit television series, HBO’s Big Little Lies and Netflix’s The Society, but when the pandemic played a role in the un-renewal of the latter, Newton wasted no time amassing an impressive slate of films. First up was Christopher Landon’s well-received slasher comedy, Freaky, that made three times its $6 million production budget during the height of the pandemic. She then followed that up with Ian Samuels’ hidden time-loop gem, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, on Amazon Prime Video. In between these two films, she also received a career-altering offer to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ant-Man’s daughter, Cassie Lang, beginning with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) and potentially a Young Avengers movie at some point.
That brings us to her busy 2024, as Newton made...

Watch the official trailer for Founders Day below.
In this “bold political slasher” from the Bloomquist Brothers, a small town is shaken by a series of ominous killings in the days leading up to a heated mayoral election.
As accusations fly and the threat of a masked killer darkens every street corner, the residents must race to uncover the truth before fear consumes the town.
“We’re very happy to be partnering with the team at Dark Sky who know and love the power of genre cinema like we do,” said the Bloomquist brothers. “As the chaos of modern politics rages, The Founder is primed and ready to be unleashed on American audiences.”

Earlier this week, we learned that director Erik Bloomquist‘s slasher movie Founders Day has secured a North American distribution deal with Dark Sky Films, and the company is planning to give it a theatrical release sometime in the first quarter of 2024. In preparation for that release, the movie has also now secured a rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Founders Day has been rated R for “strong bloody violence, language, and some sexual references.” So it delivers pretty much what you expect to see from a slasher movie.

It's hard to believe that the Orphan Black franchise is staging a comeback almost seven years after its series finale.
Thankfully, it looks like Orphan Black: Echoes will fit into the franchise very well.
Krysten Ritter is known for delivering stellar performances, and we should expect more of the same in the AMC, AMC+, and BBC America sequel series, set to air in 2024.
The promo was unveiled during New York Comic Con on Thursday and showcases Ritter as Lucy, a young woman caught up in what we can only describe as a nightmare.
"Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence," the logline reveals.
"It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Over six years after the finale of “Orphan Black,” AMC has returned with a first look at the upcoming spin-off “Orphan Black: Echoes.” The teaser was released as New York Comic Con enters its first day on Thursday.
The teaser shows Krysten Ritter as a dazed Lucy asking a woman, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know who I am?”
As the teaser cycles between futuristic scenes of a large city, versions of Lucy emerging from pink test tubes and past and present iterations of the character cycling through various settings, Lucy’s monologue changes. “I have to face them. We have to figure out who we are,” she says by the trailer’s end.

Exclusive: Peacock is not moving forward with a second season of comedy series Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin. This marks a reversal of the Season 2 renewal for the offshoot from the Pitch Perfect movie franchise, which was announced in early January.
Like was the case of two Prime Video series whose Season 2 renewals were rescinded last month — The Peripheral and A League of Their Own — the cancellation of Bumper In Berlin stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
Bumper In Berlin‘s first season was released in November 2022. The comedy had not started pre-production on Season 2 when the WGA strike began May 2. It has now fallen significantly behind its planned timeline. Such a delay would impact Peacock’s pipeline as there is...

In the 15 years since Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she has appeared in many other shows like Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and most recently The Book of Boba Fett. Her wit, Force-wielding skills, and her desire to do good for the Galaxy even after leaving the Jedi Order have made her a fan-favorite character with fans eager to see her in a solo series.
Because Ahsoka has been involved in so many eras throughout Star Wars history from The Clone Wars to the New Republic, there are plenty of characters, both familiar and otherwise, that we can expect to see throughout the series. Ahsoka will feature the return of several Rebels and Clone Wars characters, as well as the introduction of new characters we haven’t yet seen in canon before.

American Horror Stories, a streaming series spin-off from FX’s long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story, began with a seven episode first season in 2021, and an eight episode second season followed in 2022. Both of those seasons had July premiere dates, but obviously that wasn’t the case for season 3. Instead, all four episodes of American Horror Stories season 3 are set to drop on the Hulu streaming service on October 26th, and its premiere is being promoted as a special Halloween event. Actually, they’re calling it a “Huluween event”.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck, the same duo that’s responsible for American Horror Story, this series is a weekly hourlong anthology that features a different horror story, some of which call back to the original series, in each contained episode. Obviously the “weekly” part of that description is being set aside for the new season.

‘A League Of Their Own’ Canceled: Prime Video Not Proceeding With Second & Final Season Amid Strikes
Exclusive: Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, co-created and starring Abbi Jacobson, Deadline has learned.
It joins fellow Prime Video/Amazon Studios hourlong freshman series The Peripheral, which also had its Season 2 renewal reversed.
As Deadline reported earlier today, both cancellations are believed to stem from the length of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed TV production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
In a story earlier this week, Deadline reported that there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day, with freshman series going into Season 2 the most vulnerable. There was a similar string of unrenewals during the pandemic.

Exclusive: Prime Video will not be going forward with the previously ordered second season of its sci-fi drama series The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Deadline has learned.
I hear The Peripheral is not the only Amazon scripted series whose renewal has been rescinded and there is at least one other series that won’t go to a second season.
According to sources, the cancellation stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA strike, now in its 109th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike, in Day 36, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.

Horror fans, get ready for a new trip to the pet cemetery. Paramount+ has revealed the first look at the upcoming prequel to Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, titled Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. The prequel will explore the origins of the cursed burial ground that brings back the dead, but not as they were before.
The first look image shows a brown dog walking on a dirt path in front of a sign that reads “Ludlow”. The dog is presumably one of the pets that will be buried and resurrected in the prequel, and the sign indicates that the story will take place in the same town as the original novel and its adaptations. The image has a vintage feel to it, suggesting that the prequel will be set in an earlier time period than the 2019 film.
First Look Source : Paramount+
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is directed by Lindsey Beer, who is making her directorial debut.

Lisa Rinna is best known for playing the characters of Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives and Taylor McBride on Melrose Place… or at least she was, until she was featured on eight seasons of the reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. That may be what most viewers recognize her from these days. But Rinna recently left that Real Housewives show, and now Deadline reports that she has signed on to appear in an episode of the Hulu horror anthology series American Horror Stories.
The episode Rinna will be in is titled Tapeworm, and most of the filming of that episode was already completed before Deadline confirmed her involvement. That’s the only information that’s available at this time.

It boasted a compelling mystery, plenty of drama, and lots of potential for future seasons.

Sometimes, TV shows end at the perfect time.
There are many variables that go into having a TV show on the air, and it can govern when they end.
We've rounded up some of the TV shows that ended far too soon, and frankly, it still hurts.
1. The Society - Netflix The coming-of-age drama focused on a group of teenagers in a town without adults. It had compelling characters and a solid mystery. Despite landing a renewal, the show was canceled due to production delays caused by Covid-19. This might be one of the worst decisions Netflix has ever made. 2. Santa Clarita Diet - Netflix Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant toplined this comedy about an undead realtor. The series had a devoted fanbase, but Netflix shocked everyone when it canceled the show after three seasons. And, no, there was no closure in sight. Boo. Netflix again? We're sensing a pattern.

Not too long ago, Netflix was touted as a savior of lost shows. Your favorite TV drama mistreated by its original owner? Let Netflix scoop it up off the streets and rehome it.

In the sixteen years since The CW launched as a broadcast channel, it has become known for its teen dramas like Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries, and One Tree Hill as well as being the home of the DC Comics Arrow-verse. For years, this channel has created dozens of original shows that not only paved the way for small screen superhero entertainment, but also cultivated diverse talent and voices. However, thanks to the network’s new owners Nexstar Media Group, this is all about to change.
Many of The CW’s original series like The Flash, Riverdale, and Nancy Drew are airing their final seasons this year while others like The Winchesters, Walker: Independence, and Kung Fu have already been canceled as the channel tries to shift its audience age demographic from 18-34 to the more traditional 18-49. Only one person, a working-class husband and dad, is local.
