An LRAD is a Long Range Acoustic Device, or a sound gun It is a less-lethal (non-lethal / non-kinetic) tech, designed for crowd dispersal , or to incapacitate individuals with controlled bursts of audible sound.
A SAW machine gun (Squad Automatic Weapon), is also known as M249 light machine gun. The features include:
- Gas-operated
- Air-cooled
- Magazine (Rifle rounds as emergency source of ammo) or Belt-fed (linked) Ammunition
- Can be used with a bipod or tripod
- Vehicle-mounted or in fixed emplacements
- Sustained automatic fire, cyclic (maximum) rate of fire or greater firepower (throw more rounds downrange)
- Operated by a "Designated riflemen" in a squad , used on fully automatic setting, while other troops were required to use their rifle's semi-automatic mode on most occasions to increase accuracy and conserve ammunition. Also, sustained automatic fire on weapons not designed for such used would cause it to jam and overheat.
A tactical flashlight, is one that can be mounted on top of a weapon such as a rifle or pistol, as oppose to a makeshift solution of attaching a maglite with duct tape.
Non-kinetic operations can be defined as the employment of non-lethal strategies and tactics with weapons that are "sub-lethal" or "weapons not intended to be lethal".
