Crabtree and John find an adult male corpse, which turns out Hubert Marks, the sadistic criminal who tortured and murdered detective Llewellyn Watts' adoptive brother, who was recently exonerated and released from prison due to a forensic error with crucial evidence. Watts probably killed him to undo the fault he made with the evidence, but claims he can't remember correctly, while changing is story repeatedly. Despite claiming self-defense, discrepancies in Watts' statement lead Murdoch to suspect that Watts took justice into his own hands and murdered the man in revenge for his brother's death, the finds a third family member was involved. Crabtree tires of Higgins being absent(minded) all the time, hence even more useless then ever, having taken a second job as night watchman. So Crabtree inspires him instead to advertise as a car taxi. Crabtree finds that rather shifts the problem, as rides are often during precinct shifts, but finding Higgins surprisingly competent at car repairs, hires him as a trainee mechanic at his automobile repair shop.
