This is the second time David Boreanaz had entered a submarine through the torpedo hatch, on the season 5 episode 13 of Angel he did the same thing, hence the line " Remind me to never do this again" is even more humorous.
The mission milestones are all core and past members of the English legendary group from Manchester, The Smiths. 'Mars' for Jackpot should have actually read: 'Marr' for guitarist Johnny.
The submarine the SEAL's deployed from is called the USS Booker T. Washington (SSGN-6852), a fictional Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine (SSBN). Her registry number starting with SSGN (Ship-Submarine-Guided Missile-Nuclear) indicates she is one of the Ohio-class submarines that were converted to be cruise missile submarines, the last nuclear arms reduction treaty limited the number of nuclear-armed ballistic missile equipped submarines in service to 12, the remaining Ohio-class submarines had their Trident-II nuclear missiles removed and replaced them with Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles armed with conventional warheads, thereby becoming cruise missile attack submarines. SSGN's are sometimes used to deploy SEAL teams on missions that call for a land missile strike, they carry 154 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles and are very effective at carrying out rapid, stealth land-attack strikes, SEAL's are sometimes deployed from an SSGN to scout out a land target for a missile strike.
The primary submarine used to deploy Navy SEAL's is usually the USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), she is the third and final submarine of the Seawolf-class attack submarines and would be the one most likely to be used in a stealth recon mission such as this one. The Carter is a heavily modified variant of the Seawolf-class designed specifically for deploying remote operated vehicles (ROV) and special forces units, the Carter is much larger than the other two submarines of her class, at 12,139 tons displacement and 453 feet long she is 3,000 tons heavier and almost 100 feet longer. The Carter has what is called a Multi-Mission Platform (MMP) added to her middle section, which allows the sub to carry and launch ROV's and have a large airlock for fast deployment and recovery of special operations units, as opposed to them coming in/out one at a time via a torpedo tube. The Jimmy Carter has eight 26 inch torpedo tubes (four forward and four aft), in addition to Mark 48 torpedoes the Jimmy Carter also carries 25 Tomahawk cruise missiles and 25 Harpoon anti-ship missiles, both of which are capable of being fired out of her torpedo tubes.

Peter Macon plays a Master Chief that deals with Lt. Commander Blackburn. At the same time on The Orville (2017), he plays a Lt. Commander on a starship.
