Death wears a mask
BandSAboutMovies3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Back in 1994, a group of filmmakers in Eastern Pennsylvania - home of ECW - brought together some local pro wrestlers and young actors to make a horror movie.

Now, 25 years later, the film is finally finished.

After accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, a professional wrestler once known as the Masked Mutilator has taken on a job at a group home for youth offenders. But when someone wearing his mask starts killing the residents, all bets are off and no holds are barred!

This movie stars Stampede vet Brick Bronsky, who also appeared in Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. and Class of Nuke 'Em High 2 and 3, as well as Doug Yasinsky (once known as Doug Flex and a long-time tag partner of Bronsky), Jeff Sibbach (a former pro wrestler) and James DeBello (Cabin Fever), along with F/X by Glenn Hetrick. Bronsky directed the film, which somehow survived in a basement for the last two decades.

I kind of dug this little movie. It reminds me of the regional slashers that showed up in the 80's, all vying for that little pot of bloody gold.

Fun ultra low budget slasher with heart
anakrid4 September 2020
Nothing groundbreaking, but fun and engaging little slasher film. I guess it remained unfinished for decades. There are newly-shot wrap around segments that I didn't care for at all. I think the movie would have been much better without them. Once you get past the wrap-around, you get into a fun, action-packed slasher gem. The characters are solid and though the acting isn't top-tier, everyone still does a great job. A lost gem. I'm glad it saw release.

Fun slasher flick

Warning: Spoilers
Former pro wrestler Vic Mangino (a likeable performance by the brawny Jeff Sibbach) takes a job at a group home for youth offenders in the wake of accidentally killing an opponent in the ring. Things turn nasty when a psycho in a wrestling mask starts bumping off the troubled teens.

Director Jeff Beltzner relates the enjoyable, if familiar story at a brisk pace, maintains a serious tone throughout, delivers a satisfying smattering of tasty gratuitous female nudity, and stages both the brutal'n'bloody murders and the rough'n'ready fights with considerable aplomb. Moreover, the problem kids are drawn with some depth while the presence of several real-life wrestlers adds a sense of authenticity to the proceedings and the wrestling element brings a certain freshness to the otherwise pretty standard plot. In addition, it's acted with zest by a game cast: Brick Bronsky as annoying by-the-book intern Steve Carson, Tom Taylor as amiable martial arts expert Brian Worth, Heidi Shelhamer as the sweet Leslie, Chet Cole as the obnoxious Mason, Amanda Kupchinsky as shameless hussy Marcy, and Glenn Hetrick as belligerent troublemaker Rocker. Recommended viewing for slice'n'dice fans who want to see something that's a little different from the usual knifekill fare.
