True Justice, Josstice no more

JUSTICE LEAGUE Snyder Cut Review

So there's a new cut, and it's a bit over 4 hours long, and it's a visual spectacle. It might be a bit too long, so you probably need to split it into 2 sittings. Some changes have been done and extra scenes added. Is it better than the theatrical cut? Yes, it certainly is a different beast. The bad color filters are gone and effects have been very much improved, like the digital erasing of the moustache of Superman and Steppenwolf is totally redone. Cyborg and The Flash have more to do and more of an arch benefits them since neither have their own standalone movies yet, like the others. The ending might feel a bit tacked on, but the Joker stuff was pretty cool. Could the movie be a bit too indulging? Perhaps, but it is the version I will go back to.

Braveheart (1995)
10/10
A great adventure.

One can count as many historical inaccuracies as one likes in this movie of the legendary Scotsman, but it is nonetheless a glorious accomplishment. It's a sweeping epic, and has all the trimmings you'd like. It has romance, action, betrayals, swerves, big battles and a cackling villain you love to hate. For all its length it never bores and is endlessly rewatchable. I've watched it ever since 1995 in the theater, made a traditional thing every year, and on top of all that it has been received the great treatment of 4K on Blu-Ray. Simply love this movie and has taken place in my Top 10 of all time.

Quantum of Solace (2008 Video Game)
3/10
Truly the best Bond-game since GoldenEye.
1 November 2008
Yes it even surpasses it with gorgeous graphics and realistic looking locales. Having seen the movie, I have to say it has transfered well while not strictly sticking with the plot of it, it has changed details to suit the game more which doesn't hurt, also voice-overs from the cast are thrown in. The villains in this game seem to be a forgetful bunch with cellphones laying around, which is a bit silly, but alright. The guns are all very realistically done and packs a good punch with booming effective sound, also explosions and debris are very authentic looking, so can shoot almost anything and it breaks. The henchmen behave like real human beings when they are hit and have a really good AI. Some bad things about the game is that you can't do fights and are forced to do button-sequences which loses momentum to proceedings. Otherwise this is a very recommended game, and you might enjoy it more if you are a fan of these films (yes you also get to play Casino Royale in the middle of the game as flashback).

A Grand and worthy farewell to a wonderful Saga
20 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
So Finally it arrived...phew....the very last Star Wars movie you will ever see (or at least for a very long time). This movie is close to excellent, sometimes dragging in parts when there is little action, and the dialog is a bit dry and a bit TV-soap-ish, but then again it delivers on the intrigue, special effects and laser blazing, light-saber flashing and clashing, big stunts, yes very well choreographed duels, fights and action. All with a sinister edge when the darkness spreads in the Galaxy, with old themes like doomed love, betrayal, yes it is a space opera with over the top emotion and acting. This is the darkest of the prequels even though The Empire Strikes Back is darker and a better film in the series as a whole. Episode III does deliver though on all its promises. There are however no big surprises for at least those who know and has seen the other movies in the series. I may not be a big fan but I do enjoy them a lot and know they are a vital part of the modern cinema. But back to Episode III, in which we see the dramatic changes in Anakin (Hayden Christensen, more grown into the role) growing more corrupt and twisted, crossing slowly over to the dark side, full of doubt, confusion and turmoil. The key figure in the change is Chancellor Palpatine (a brilliant Ian McDiarmid) of hidden agendas, with quiet menace under his calm surface. Anakin's friendship with Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor more adapted into his role) also slipping away, also marriage to Amidala (Natalie Portman, wonderful and ever confident in her role) shaking in its joints. Anakin is let into the Jedi Council but on a short leash and charged with spying in on Chancellor Palpatine. Back is also little green frog wonder Yoda (Frank Oz) who fights even more in this film than before as does the ever cool Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson, as bankable as ever), of course no Star Wars movie is ever complete without C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker). Plus near cameos by Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), Senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), Clone Commander Cody (Temuera Morrison). And Count Dooku (The Legendary Movie Icon Christopher Lee) is offed early on. And the musical score by John Williams reaches new heights of ingenuity and depth. The Movie itself is very beautifully made if not a bit too clean, it is rather too colorful, but the storytelling is right on the spot.

The best movie of the year.
23 December 2001
The First Lord of the Rings movie of Tolkien´s epic fantasy adventure trilogy met all my expectations great characters good as well as great evil, great valiant battles, sorcery, friendship, bravery and honor. This may be because I haven´t read the books yet, but saw the animated Lord of the rings, which was good but incomplete since the finance wasn´t there for a sequel. So it is a blessing that Peter Jackson has made these movies. Story: Forged by Sauron a small ring containing great evil passing from one hand to another until it lands in the hands of friendly hobbit Frodo, who with the help of wizard Gandalf and a band of other races taking the ring to the great Mount Doom to destroy it. The Fellowship of the Ring (the first part of the trilogy) is made with great landscapes and attention to detail also featuring some of the best CGI and other SFX available, the monsters and creatures look very much real, not only that, he also managed to convey the different sizes of the characters by using film tricks, notice in the first scenes of the hobbit village, how the sizes of Elijah Wood (who plays Frodo) and Ian McKellen (who plays Gandalf) who are both regular sized people differentiate so radically. The movie in some places really gets you emotionally intense and gripping. But there are clearly some flaws here and the in the character developments, not spending too much time getting to know more about them, this is clearly an excuse to making way to the story which in itself bares no flaws. The movie despite this is cast flawlessly with great acting, it has an international cast. From the UK: Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Sean Bean, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd and Christopher Lee, US: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler, Australia: Cate Blanchette and Hugo Weaving. I highly recommend you all to see it. And roll on The Two Towers film next christmas and The Return of the King the christmas after.

PS. I have now begun to read The Hobbit, which is a prelude to LOTR books and gives you the back story of Bilbo Baggins on his adventures, then I will continue with the LOTR book trilogy accordingly.

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING 4.5/5

The Godfather (1972)
10/10
Finally the classic Mob Trilogy has arrived on DVD
1 October 2001
This is one of the most eagerly anticipated film series ever (along with Alien Saga, Die Hard etc) and marking Paramount´s greatest DVD effort yet. The First Godfather film involves the epic story of The Corleone Family, where each member is supurbly acted by a superb cast, top notch from the principle parts to the smaller ones. As head of the Corleone family Don Vito (outstanding Marlon Brando) is ambushed and shot and put to hospital, his sons, Michael youngest of them, unwilling heir of the family top spot (Al Pacino), hot head oldest brother Sonny (James Caan), and quiet middle brother Fredo (John Cazale) must take control over the family business while he is gone, and rely on Don Vito´s new consigliere Tom Hagen´s (the always great Robert Duvall) and end the conspiracy bestowed upon them. The story is perfectly vowen, marvelously executed violence scenes. It´s a movie that must be seen by any movie fan, this is as perfect as movies become. No different is The Godfather Part II, even possibly better than the first one, this movie however is longer and is split up as two stories intercutting in parts, one showing the life and rise of younger Vito Corleone (Robert DeNiro) and the other his son Michael tightening his grip on his family business, alienating his wife kay (Diane Keaton) in the 1950´s. The third and weaker of the Godfather movies but not all that bad, involves middle-aged Michael legititimizing his earlier crime business, while trying to win back his ex wife Kay. However new enemies within and outside the family ultimatelky corrupts the business and resulting in his retirement, as his son in law Vincent (Andy Garcia) ascend as the new Don, with the help of Michael´s hardened sister Connie (Talia Shire). The weakest performances come from George Hamilton as Michael´s new lawyer B.J. and Coppola´s own daughter Sofia as Vincent´s cousin and lover, which isn´t to say Sofia is all bad but doesn´t really have the experience for this pivotal role. The Video transfers aren´t all that top notch showing some grain but never-the-less show flawless detail and color resolution, the audio transfers are deliverd in powerful detail and gives the subwoofer a run for its money. The special features are all good and interests showing good value, Coppola´s commentaries on all three movies is as informative and interesting as they come, commenting on the cast behind the scenes facts, the how´s and why´s, his feeling about the third movie´s pointlessness. The facts are all here, the features as great as can be expected from a highclass trilogy such as this.

Godfather: 5, Godfather 2: 5, Godfather 3: 3
