so disappointed
11 March 2002
I always look forward to the next Woody Allen movie. When will I learn? Except for a brief pause with 'Small Time Crooks' Woody has forgotten how to make a funny movie. Yes, I saw Stardust Memories. I don't care if he wants to make serious movies, fine. But here he is attempting to make a funny movie and failing miserably. This movie was so lame and the lead performances wooden. Rent anything before Manhattan Murder Mystery and enjoy.

What century is this?
7 March 2002
Oh, goody, another movie that exhibits passionate love scenes where the women are always completely naked and the men clothed. I wonder how this happens? Women are exploited big time in this film. Okay, the boys are visited by a prostitute, we get it, thanks for all the graphic display. Billy Bob's performance as the lead is wonderful. Too bad the director had to take such cheap shots at the women. Imagine all the blockbuster movies that sell tickets without such obvious tactics. You want to have nudity in films, fine. Let's see everyone equally!

Great concert
24 September 2001
If you have not been lucky enough to see Annie Lennox live in concert then rent this tape/dvd. She is in great form and there is a good selection of her hits included. Also, the small documentary on the making of the video and on the process of giving interviews is very amusing. You won't be disappointed with this one.

Interesting.

The first person to comment used the word 'slow' a few times to describe this film. Yes, it was slow and deliberate. But you have to remember that our attention spans are growing ever shorter with the quick cuts and fast action of other films and TV. I appreciated the meandering style of this movie as a pleasant change.

awful, awful, awful
21 September 2000
My guess is that this director/writer had something to say. Let's see, what it could have been... a. Frog storms would be creepy? b. can I get someone like Tom Cruise to say the "C" word many times and look like a bad Patrick Rafter? c. Cast my wife and get her to say the "F" word every 2 seconds. This aside I really liked the beginning and the frog storm. The rest was a relentless, over-long (under-edited), over-indulgent failure. Glad so many of you enjoyed it!

It kept my interest
21 September 2000
I would agree with the UK person's comment. No, it's not a great movie but it was entertaining. Hey, anything that holds my interest while I'm on the treadmill is a good thing. No Martha pun intended. Besides it's another Martin Sheen, white house movie. Maybe he should think about politics for real.

First hour was fun!
17 May 2000
Watch the first hour which is laugh out loud funny but skip the rest. The movie fails when it attempts to turn serious and save the poor aliens from their vicious alien enemies. Way too sentimental and takes itself much too seriously at the end. When I think about Tony Shaloub's FYI I still laugh. But is that enough?

Nice little movie

I don't know what I was expecting but overall I liked it. The acting from Frances McD. and Michael Douglas was very good. In covering the same territory, the male mid-life crisis this was a much better movie than American Beauty - despite the hype for the latter.

Awful!
1 March 2000
Yes, I know. I stand alone, or almost, on this one. I guess this says something about us as the movie going public. This is what we want to see? Make more of these? I know myself I lay awake at night hoping Hollywood will make more movies that portray woman as screaming idiots or lifeless-eyed, bare-breasted females. Oh, goody! That heavens some good movies actually sneak through like 'Whole Wide World' and 'Saigon, Year of the Cat'.

You must be kidding??

This movie may not be the worst movie I've ever seen but it's down there. I was hoping that the first scenario was it and the movie would be over! I didn't care about either of the main characters and didn't care what happened to them. Skip this one and see "La Femme Nikita".

Delightful!

I don't know what it is about this movie, the charisma of the two leads, their chemistry on screen, the chance to see Matthau's real-life son (you can't miss him)or Art Carney's performance but I love it. I've seen it a few times and never tire of watching it again. Rent and enjoy.

Nice, understated movie
11 August 1999
Maybe the first commentator, Dave, is a 'terminator' type guy. If you are looking for fast cuts, lots of action and have a short attention span this movie is not for you. If you like slower, slice of life, meandering movies you will like this. I thought the acting was good and the story dealt with life's little uncertainties in a convincing way.

Endless? I thought it was great!
21 April 1999
Anything with Robson Green could not be considered endless (in a negative way) unless you were a hetero male I guess. The three leads are some of my favorite actors, Michael Kitchen - so great in "To Play the King", "Out of Africa" and "Enchanted April". It was particularly nice to see F. Annis in a staring role, a wonderful over 40 part - imagine!

Déjà Vu (1997)
Awful.
16 January 1999
I too listened to the film critics and went to see this film. What a disappointment. The only positive thing I can say is that I liked Ms. Massey and Mr. Harrison in the supporting roles. I would much rather have seen a story about these two than the main characters.
