A must see for the whole family!
8 June 1999
This is truly one of the best movies I have ever seen, and I recommend everyone to see it at LEAST once! The story itself is not that spectacular; a little girl, Sarah, (played by Liesel Matthews) is left alone in a school for girls in New York while her father is fighting for England during the First World War. Having lived a comfortable life in India, she'll learn that the world is not always a fairytale. However, although she finds herself in all kinds of trouble and loneliness, she brings light and hope to everyone around her. The warmth and understanding about the true values in life that comes from her is an eye-opener for us all, and the acting is just superb. Don't forget tissues - you might need it. 10 out of 10!

Great idea - bad result...
7 December 1998
The story in this movie is, as often quoted, controversial - and its a story one could expect a great movie of. However, this one fails strongly to get deep into the issue, to what *really* drives Sandra (the girl in the movie) to her different sexual experiences, and likewise, how her "boyfriend" *really* feels about it which eventually leads to the tragic ending. It is very shallow and only touches on the edge of the mystery. 78 minutes running time could easily be extended by half an hour in order to incorporate this. A better script and a better director would probably lift the movie up to the unreasonable high average it has reached at IMDB...

Do NOT watch it!
28 November 1998
Seriously... if you have "Mein Kampf" or the communist manifesto - sit down and go through them rather then wasting time on this movie!!! It's a shame that one of the world's best fiction author (Dean Koontz) will have one of his best books turned into a movie as awful as this one. The acting is terrible, the story is so predictable and stupid (not at all like the book), and it's just BORING. All the excitement is over after 5 min. and you'd wish you had never made it to the video store...

rubbish, but I'm in it!

"Without mercy" is one of these types of movies where we have a real cool hero that we are supposed to enjoy watching for 1.5 hours. There is not much of a story, and the acting is terrible. The only good actor is the UN soldier that is shot by terrorists 10 min. into the movie. That is because it is me...

What if...???

In a way, this is a pretty scary movie. It is supposed to be a "brainteaser" , but I would say it's more than that. The acting is good, the script excellent and you will probably enjoy every part of the movie. But if you manage to leave the cinema without thinking about how little - in fact - we are in control of our own lives, you would be one among only a few doing so.

The movie succeeds in combining realism, theology, philosophy, humor and tragedy in a way that makes me really recommend it to everyone who are bored to death with the last year's Blockbuster movies such as Gozilla and Armageddon. It is a movie you easily can go and see twice. And next time you find yourself in a "split-second destiny situation" like Helen in the movie - think about what your life would be like if the thing that happened hadn't happened...
