My Generation (2000)

A Great Look Into The Inside Joke Of Woodstock
28 August 2001
This documentary proved that there was something behind all 3 of the Woodstock festivals that no one saw.

Sure this is a great documentary if you want to see all the differences between generations, and if you want a portrait on how to live in mud for 3 days. But the documentary has a much higher purpose to me.

It showed that there is an inside joke behind all 3 Woodstock festivals. The idea that a revolution can be marketed, people will pay for it, and it has corporate sponsorship along with promoters out to make a buck.

The footage of Perry Farrell of Porno For Pyros talking about how corporate greed is wrong, then seeing "The band wanted 500,000 for their performance" was just funny in it's own statement. Hearing all these people talk about how spiritual Woodstock is, and how everyone wants to have a good time, it's just a dream! It's not ever going to happen without someone making trying to make a profit because people are that stupid to have that belief and will always pay for that dream.

The breakdown of the festivals when it came to security gaps was something people should have taken a hint by. The fires of Woodstock 99 went to show that kids are not stupid, although they did pay 150 dollars to show up, but did not take the big screw that corporate America wanted to give them. The footage of the man at Woodstock 94 saying "we are gonna do what we want regardless" went to show that Generation X wasn't going to be told what to do when they are the paying consumer.

I thought this was a great look into the comparison of all 3 generations, the hippies, generation x, and generation "what" as I refer to this generation by. "What" meaning people don't know what the hell they are fighting for, don't know who they are, and are afraid to change the world because they don't know how to direct their angers and fears.

I highly recommend this documentary to everyone, the inside joke of Woodstock needs to be exposed and people need to see that there is no such thing but need for profit off everyones revolution.

Driven (2001)
10/10
Amazing !
29 May 2001
I'm not a big fan of racing, but this movie was an amazing look into the driver's seat of the Indy racing circuit. Like most movies, I think this movie had the usual politics of being given a bad rating by critics because of cast choices. Both Stallone and Burt Reynolds gave excellent performances in this movie. Don't believe the critics on this one, you deserve "Driven"

American Gladiators (1989–1996)
Watched it almost every Saturday Night
22 March 2000
I remember this show very well. When I was around 12, I watched this almost every Saturday night. It was a very amazing show. The events were great, it couldn't bore you, it was a very high-technical show. To me, it was almost olympic like. I don't think there will ever be anything close to it.

Kubrick saved the best for last.
12 March 2000
This movie is excellent, it's got all the elements for a great one. Sex, scandal, thriller, you name it. It has the Twilight Zone meets Alfred Hitchcock twist to it. I sat there, always wanting to know what was going to happen next, and wonder why things were happening the way they were. Tom Cruise and Nichole Kidman both deserve alot of credit for this one.

Stanley Kubrick definitely saved the best for last !

Next Friday (2000)
Great !
3 March 2000
This is a great followup to the original Friday. The plot line is more creative than the first, and it seems to me this one is packed with alot more laughs. Sticky of Oynx played a great role in this one, as Debo's slave as it seemed. Ice Cube seemed better in this one, plus he seemed a little more at home and relaxed.

Mystery Men (1999)
For the easily entertained
11 February 2000
It's not really a mystery, that Mystery Men was one of the worst movies ever made. The cast was very impressive, but the humor is lame, the plot is too simple, and it's just a fantasy world at it's best. The humor may be funny to some people, but I thought it ruined some of the good names used in this movie. I know for sure Ben Stiller is more funny then what he was portrayed as. If you like simple plots, or under the age of 14, this movie might be for you.

Great show, for a great frontman.
8 December 1999
This concert was everything it lived up to be. The bands did a very good job performing. My personal favorite performance was the one put on by Extreme. The tape showed alot of Archive footage of Freddie Mercury, as well as Queen. From the beginning of Queen's career, to the very end.

The concert has alot of great moments, especially Liz Taylor making her big begging speech to the crowd. The tape is for everyone, Queen fans, or fans wanting to know about Queen. The same goes for Freddie Mercury as well. This is real great concert to watch, rent it, or buy it, you will be very pleased.

Roger & Me (1989)
Very deep, very true.
23 October 1999
This movie really showed me what America's free enterprise system is about. Make your millions in producing automobiles in an American town, then run to Mexico where labor is cheap, and not offer any jobs to Americans. I loved it, very true, very deep.

I loved how Roger Smith dodged the film crews everytime they showed up. It was very good to show the effects of the plant closing shop. I never expected a true look into what happends to American workers.

I give this one 5 stars, and I realize now that our Free Enterprise System just keeps the poor, poor. And the wealthy get even more wealth. Our free enterprise system is a joke.

Armageddon (1998)
Very intense, on the edge movie
5 October 1999
The thing that got me about this movie was how exciting, suspenseful, and the drama it contains.

This movie grasps you. It has alot of funny scenes, great comedy performances by Steve Buscemi, and the russian cosmonaut guy.

The great part is you are filled with suspense, this movie has alot of on the edge parts. Such as problems with the nuclear warhead, landing on the rock, and many more. If you enjoy suspense, this is the movie for you.

Caddyshack II (1988)
A movie for lazy golfers
21 September 1999
This movie is just as dumb as the first one. The purpose of these movies is for rich, country club, golfing, lazy, morons can enjoy. These movies rip on the working class, and just have the chessiest humor in them. But what would I know ? I live in middle class suburbia, and don't play golf. So, I guess I can't be in the "Caddyshack Posse"

The Goonies (1985)
A True 80's Legend Movie !
21 September 1999
Ok, if you didn't see this movie in the 80's, you suck. I remember seeing this movie with my mom when I was about 5 years old, and I still remember to this day, how funny it was to me at that age. The scenes with Sloath and Chunk I think are the things the 80's generation still laughs and remembers. Anyways, this is a great movie for a party, or just to watch for the hell of it. It has alot of humor, and a little bit of horror. A must see for the 80's generation.

E.T. (1982)
A movie I try to forget.
21 September 1999
This movie is just too freaky for me. It's dark, it's depressing, and just the way the cast acted in the movie just freaks me out. Spielberg might have made a masterpiece here, but too me it was a very dark and depressing movie. I know that Mac And Me was it's latest competition in the later 80's, but this movie just makes you either cry, or feel really depressed.

I saw this movie back when they re-released it, (Can't remember if it was 84 or 85) and this movie was just really messed up. I was about 5 at the time, and the part with the medical crews and stuff just made me horrified, and it still does to this day because it's just plain messed up !

The ending isn't all that happy either, I can guarantee that.

Roots (1977)
A series that takes a great look into slavery.
21 September 1999
Alex Haley really did a great job experimenting his family tree, I'm amazed he was able to do that much research, and just make a great mini-series out of it. The one thing this series does is just shock you, it teaches you how cruel slavery was, and how much you really didn't know that they were supposed to teach you in school.

One thing I love about this series is how touching it all really is. The marriages of the slaves, the jobs of the slaves, and the story about Chicken George is just very cool. I know to some this series is just very depicting, and to some whites, they feel it's making them responsible for slavery. But what the series is teaching you, is that we should all learn about our mistakes in history, and accept what we are, and try to change for the better without finger pointing.

This series shocked alot of people, and sparked alot of controversy, but it's worth seeing, for any race, for any generation, in any country. Alex Haley, I take my hat off to you.

Great Documentary
16 September 1999
This is a great look into the man known as Hitchcock. There are alot of interviews with alot of the stars who worked with Hitchcock telling all about him, and the movies they were in. There are some appearences by alot of the directors of today saying what they admired of Hitchcock.

Hitchcock is the master of suspense, and this is a look into how he worked, who he worked with, where he got some of the ideas for his movies, and a great documentary you shouldn't miss.

You also see how "Psycho" shocked some people in a way where they had nightmares for years.

A must see, a most definite must see.

A true Metallica classic !!!
16 September 1999
Metallica is one of my favorite bands, and I think this is definitely a great tape. The concert is 100% performance from their "Poor Touring Me" tour. There are no interviews, or backstage stuff, (Only on the DVD there are backstage shots) but other than that, it's a great concert video. Some shots are black and white, some are aerial views of the band performing. A must have for the true Metallica Fan.

Closure (1997 Video)
Disaster, sex, and drugs in one box.
16 September 1999
Nine Inch Nails appeared to have made a pretty funny documentary of their 1994/1995 Further Down The Spiral Tour. The tape that shows their tour documentary is probably a real life comedy. The band is shown trashing a dressing room attempting to knock down an Exit Sign with The Jim Rose Circus, then you see a look at The Jim Rose Circus' act on the stage.

Good performances by the band on the tape as well, as well as a duet with David Bowie.

It shows some of the low points and the high points of the tour. Such as some of the accidents that occured due to Trent Reznor's violent stage performances. As well as interviews about their shocking Woodstock 94 appearence.

The other tape is all of Nine Inch Nails' music videos. Which I thought was boring when I watched them. Some of their videos on the tape are pretty disturbing, especially the "Happiness In Slavery" video, so for all the kids under 18, don't watch this tape.

This video is for the true NIN fan, and is a must have. But just remember something about the musical videos tape, Trent Reznor is a very disturbing individual.

What was the point ?
16 September 1999
At first, the movie starts off pretty funny, with Mia X running a credit office out of a burned out car. But what really makes it go down hill is it's drift off the original topic. Yes, there is a plot, and they drift off subject with it.

The movie is pretty funny, and I do think it deserves a spot in the Cult Classic section. But if you want to get confused, and try to figure out a point, this is the movie for you.

54 (1998)
Great movie
16 September 1999
It's unknown to me why this movie got such a bad review from critics. There are alot of factual errors about the club, yes. But this seemed to be a great movie. Mike Myers was an excellent pick for Steve Rubell, he had the same personality as Rubell in the movie.

Another thing is the story is so interesting about Studio 54, it was a fad, hip, and unusual place for it's time. Not only that, the story of the controversial club is one that really is unknown to some.

The story might not be dead on accurate, and some of the characters might be factual, and there could be alot of mistakes in the movie, but it's still a great one to watch when you get past it.

I would suggest watching VH-1's Behind The Music on Studio 54 first before seeing the movie, for a clear understanding on the club. That way you don't get freaked out.

Scream 2 (1997)

CAN IT BE ANY MORE PREDICTABLE ?
16 September 1999
Wow, this time Wes Craven really gave away who the killer was. If you can't figure it out in the first 30 minutes, there is something wrong with you.

One thing I like about these "Cast now in college" movies is that they try to continue the series, with 2 or 3 people of the same cast in the same college, with new characters. This movie is nothing but a wannabe horror version of House Party 2.

The movie is just lame, boring, and the killer is obvious too soon, and it's obvious what is going to happen next in the movie.

Private Parts (1997)

Hilarious !
16 September 1999
When I first saw this movie, I hated Howard Stern, bad ! But when I saw this movie, I had to admit, it was hilarious, and I took a liking for Stern.

The movie is hilarious, and shows alot of the funny things that go on with the radio show. But they don't show any of the real wacky stuff that has happened, or made references to anything that happens that has really made the Stern show known.

Howard Stern's life was well acted out, and well scripted. This movie is definitely on my Top 100 List.

Scream (1996)
Yawn
16 September 1999
Scream sucks, ok ? Wes Craven is a great director, hats off to him, but this movie is for the teenage chick who doesn't have a life. I know girls have seen this movie 32 times because it has Skeet Ulrich in it.

The movie is a scare the first 20 minutes of the first time you see it, but then it starts to go down hill. The references to movies, and stupid comic relief make this movie cheesy, and lame.

I'm sorry but Wes Craven made a chick flick, that you can only watch once, that lacks originality, and is a "Scream" for the Razzie Awards.

In-Depth look at Lynyrd Skynyrd
16 September 1999
A very good look into the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd, or now known as "The Encore From Hell" by Spin magazine. Anyways, this shows some scenes of the last performances done by the band before their plane crash in 1977. As well as some of their older performances. The band recalls events while they were touring, and recording albums. This has some pretty classic performances in it, but it's not really anything to get excited about. The ending is a little sad, showing moments caught on camera of the take off just an hour or 2 before their 1977 plane crash, that killed Steve and Cassie Gaines, and Ronnie Van Zant.

This movie is just "Another Day In The Ghetto" Ice Cube played a very good role in this movie. And Chris Tucker was also very good in this movie. If you are into Chris Tucker's comedy, this is the movie, forget Rush Hour, rent Friday.

A very disturbing masterpiece
16 September 1999
The one thing I love about this movie, it's a classic I can't stop watching. It's got the best 2 actresses with the worst attitudes, Crawford and Davis, who were probably the best picks. Oh, I know about how the gay community loves the movie, but I'm straight, and I love the movie.

Rocky IV (1985)
A Great Movie
11 September 1999
This movie is in my opinion, the greatest of the Rocky Trilogy. And I think the critics who bad mouthed this movie were ticked that the Rocky plotlines weren't what is called "A Work Of Art" such as Rocky 1 and 2. The plot lines in the Rocky movies shifted in Rocky 3, and got to be more interesting, because he wasn't some guy living in a slum boxing with an old man after part 2, which the critics thought was "Arthouse Greatness"

Anyways, this movie has a great conflict in it. The at the time, U.S.S.R. was trying to make it's way into sports, by enginnering Dolph Lundgren with steroids and high-tech exercize equipment, which I thought was pretty interesting. And Rocky, as usual, trains the old school way, by old fashoned boxing and strength gaining methods.

The movie I think was made to teach a point at that time. If you notice when Drago begins to lose the match, and notice he isn't as strong as what he thought, he gains some respect for Rocky.

The ending is a little impossible, and wierd, yes. But I think this is a must see if you are into Rocky Movies. Stay away from number 5 though.
