Last Night (I) (1998)
9/10
One of the best 'End-of-the-World' movies I've seen.
11 November 1998
Last Night is a thought-provoking movie. What would you do if you knew the world would end shortly? Be with family; be alone? This movie goes over some of the very realistic (unlike those super-hero others out there) possibilities. The last 30 seconds of this movie have to be the most attention grabbing I've ever seen. I actually felt nervous for the characters.

It's good to finally see Toronto playing itself for a change.

Very funny..

Canadian Bacon is just the kind of movie I was looking for when I went to the video store.

The American President gains the public's support to start a war agains Canada. For his add campain he tries just about everything to turn the American citezens agains the Canadians. John Candy and a group of locals decide to take things into their own hands and cross the border.

There is some nice "Toronto" footage, (practically a first in America film- though lots is shot here) though the city seems less than inhabited. I particularly like the way the Canadians are portrayed as being super polite, and always totally blind to people's 'problems' with them. Who better to start the war with Canada than a group of Canadian actors and actresses.

Brilliant!!! 10 out of 10

I loved the musical score on this movie and it contains some of the best art work I have ever seen. Definitely a ten out of ten on my scale. A must see.

This movie takes place in a future where humans use cybernetic implants to enhance their lives. Someone known only as the Puppet Master has been hacking into peoples brains gaining control of them; allowing him to commit crimes, using his victims as drones.

There's a number of quotes that the viewer must think through before continuing on with the movie. Ghost in the Shell is a film that needs to be seen more than once in order for one to appreciate it's complex plot.

Too Smooth (1998)
Lies and more lies make up this hilarious comedy.

I saw the world premier in Toronto and genuinely enjoyed it. It was everything expected and more.

Director Dean Paras does an excellent job on this low budget feature, using every resource he can. Be sure to watch out for the bum; it's actually his father. Neve Campbell appears as we've never seen her before in this film. Congratulations to the mostly Canadian cast on a great job.

Dean Paras has a promising future.

Wild Things (1998)

WOW

The first half hour or so of this movie is a bit slow, but the remainder of the film is on full throttle with some unlikely plot twists.

Contrary to what you may think, this movie was well thought out. Watch it a second time. You'll realize the characters are not talking about what you thought the first time through.

A good career move for Neve Campbell who needed to get away from her Scream character Sydney and her Party of Five character Julia. Truly a versatile actress.

Wild Things is sure to make your head spin if not hurt.

Half Baked (1998)
5/10
Half Baked was very disappointing.

I was there for the shooting of a few of the scenes on Yonge Street in Toronto, and all I can say is "it was funnier to watch in real than on screen." If it weren't for the fact that this film was shot in my hometown and that I had a chance to watch some of it being filmed, I wouldn't have even paid the $8.00 to get in to the theatre. I had a feeling it would be a let down, but to my regret, I gave it a chance.

Scream 2 (1997)
9/10
My personal favorite!
2 October 1998
This movie ranks in as my all time favorite. I gave it a nine out of 10 for nail biting suspense.

Besides the shallow attempted statement on today's society, Scream 2 passes as an almost realistic horror story. This movie is full of ironies, making it a very funny film. Sure to become a cult flick.

I'll be looking forward to the third installment of what I consider to be the greatest horror films of all time.

The Arrow (1997)
8/10
A real feel good Canadian movie.
2 October 1998
The Arrow is a very dramatized version of the happenings around the Avro project.

The Arrow is a real feel good movie for us Canadians. Though Dan Aykroyd has had better days, it's important that he was included in the Canadian cast, bringing a familiar face to a long forgotten subject.

Just recently an original Avro Arrow model airplane was found in Lake Ontario.
