Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008)
Shorten your lifespan with 2 hours of rubbish
I liked the first part in this series, cause it was innovative and refreshing. Pretty nice special-effects for it's time. Acting wasn't Oscar quality, but not many movie has.
The second part was pretty bad, in every aspect. Let us leave it at that.
This movie almost deserves a new definition of the word bad. The acting and the dialog was horrible. The actors were stiff, and it was hard not to laugh when they tried showing some kind of emotions during more intensive scenes, only to fail miserably. The special-effects were so bad, that it shouldn't deserve to be in the same genre as every other sf movie out there.
I often see movies that others have criticized, just because I have to verify if it's actually as bad as everybody claim it to be. This movie surely was.
No people, please make a huge detour at your local rental-store, if you see this one on a shelf.
Livvakterna (2001)
Superb Swedish Thriller
Excellent thriller with great acting. As somebody already pointed out, there isn't very much of the Hollywood stereotype about the movie. With this I mean explosion, after explosions which are so big that they can't possible be. Sweden aren't exactly known for their big action/thriller movies, but this one will maybe open some eyes for those who don't know that Sweden are a bit more than Strindberg, Nobel and polar bears. Do they have polar bears in Sweden,? No. But according to a essay done in the US, more than 50% of the students thought so.
The movie has beautiful scenery, and the tension keeps you at your toes, though it hasn't anything really new about it. Does show though that Sweden can produce thrillers, and not only dramas, which may be nominated for an Oscar...
Streets of Fire (1984)
A Great New-Old Movie
Good movie with very cool songs from the 80´s, and nice cars of the 50´s. The story is not maybe the best, but it works quite well here, as the good, bad-as Paré, saves his former sweetheart from a bikers gang. Short and simple, a very entertaining movie.
Idle Hands (1999)
Resemblence to "The Frighteners"
Very amusing comedy, about a guy´s preception of a perfect life. Just smoking weed, watch tv, and having a girl cook for him. This movie has some resemblence to Micheal J. Fox´s movie (see above), but only in certain aspects. It´s a cool movie for the younger generation who likes to have some laughs, cause we don´t have it much, since the only comedy´s around are like "Sleeping in Seattle", "You got mail" etc. Rent it, see it.
Dykaren (2000)
Great scenery and footage, but is it enough?
I had waited quite a while for this movie, since I was there for a couple of days when they shot it in Göteborg. I must say that I´m disappointed with it. I think that the story could evolve much more than it did, and that the director Erik, could cut some of the "remembering flashes" that Stefan Sauk had. Especially at the end when he was diving for the diamonds. One moment he saw his dead wife in the depth, and a minute after that he was bleeding on the deck. It´s a shame, cause I had some problems following the story there. A large plus is that the scenery is fantastic, only that saved the movie from being a large disaster. For those who haven´t seen it, don´t. For those who intend to see it, be gentle about your opinion.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Superb, Youth Comedy!!!
Good to see that youth comedy´s are back in the game once again. Who haven´t starting to get tired of all of those drama comedy´s, who are not worth a dime. Now, you can see young stars on the uprising, and great acting in the same time. I saw it, and I loved it, see it you too.
She's All That (1999)
Good to see old movie-genre in action again
It has been a while since I saw a movie with really young actors/actresses. I can honestly say that this was a very good picture, though I don´t see myself beeing a huge fan of romantic comedies with young people. It´s just great to see that there is a trend in young movie-skills in uprising. This picture can be related with "Can´t buy my love" with Patrick Dempsey. Even though as I said that I don´t see myself being very fond of movies like this one, I can honestly recommend it to anyone who likes romantic movies. I am glad though it didn´t have a starring Robert Redford or someone like him in this picture.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Great acting, great music but not yet as great as it can be.
I have like millions of other waited a very long time for this masterpiece and when it´s finally came, I got a little disappointed. Though it´s great it could have been even better. Can´t say what´s missing, but something it is. Great sound and when you are in a theater you can almost feel that you are a part of the story. Can´t say that I know Ewan, but he was very good in his role as Obi-One. I hope that all of you who read this will go and see it. Though it is not a ten, it´s surely worth seeing.
Taxi (1998)
Taxi isn´t a movie, it´s an experience
Great acting from the French main-characters, but a minus for the Swedish model Emma. I think that she should have stayed in front of the camera and posing for Donna Karen instead of beginning her acting career. Very joyful movie with great lines and a huge plus for the coordination of the high-speed pursuits. Go see it, a big breakthrough in European films.
The Faculty (1998)
Superb!!!
A superb film that shows that not only the older of the new generation of stars can act. Elijah Wood as Casey had a very good impression at me, as I saw the movie. Great acting from all of the younger generation and a huge plus for Elijah. I´m glad to see that a sci-fi movie once again can bee seen in the theaters, since it was a while back. The movie with it´s school scenery and the young actors/actresses gives us maybee a deja-vu for recent films as "Scream I & II" and "I know what you did last summer I & II", but I can honestly say that I liked The Faculty more, and I recommend it to everyone.
Godzilla (1998)
Can be seen
Godzilla is a pretty good movie, though I miss the part when a school class of kids are in the museum and the guide mentions the part about the dinosaurs being the biggest "animals" ever, living on the face of the earth and then the trembling begins and the skeleton of the T-Rex gets stamped on by Godzilla. I have only seen this part in the trailer, and it´s sorry that it couldn´t be in the movie as well. A large plus for Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno for excellent acting. These to really lights up the movie, and because of them the movie stays pretty decent, but I must say that I had bigger thoughts about Godzilla, but still it is a nice film and I suggest that you can go and rent it if you haven´t seen it yet.
Independence Day (1996)
ID4 - the best sf movie yet
Independence Day is a new movie with a very lot to offer. I think it´s great and can compete with the best, (Star Wars - trilogy). You can hardly say that these movies are alike, but George Lucas "Star Wars" and Devlin´s & Emmerich´s "ID4" are great sf films with a lot of good special effects wich makes the movie rise a lot above the usual genre. Not to mention the good actors as Bill Pullman, Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell for example. Great shots, and a tribute to the sf company wich made it seem so real, that hardly no one can say that it didn´t happen for real.
The Abyss (1989)
One of the greatest...
I first saw The Abyss on television and as of that moment I got hooked on Ed Harris. Such an actor as he is doesn´t appear every day, not even in Hollywood. The movie has it all, length (love movies over two hours), beautiful scenery, great acting and lots of excitement. I can easily say that The Abyss is one of the best movies ever, and it easily deserved the 10 points I gave it. See it, I bought it...
The Rock (1996)
Rock´s hard
I must say that I often go to the cinema, but very often not always satisfied, but The Rock is hard. I can only say that it is one of the best action-movies ever made. The combination with Connery, Cage and Harris rocks. And it doesn´t get worse when it is a Bruckheimer/Bay cooperation. Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson have produced some of the best films in movie history, and when they join forces with the director Micheal Bay it can´t go wrong. The soundtrack is the best of all of my 21 year old life, beacuse that it fits like a glove on the hand. There is not one song like other great movies that make it good, but the whole CD. If you haven´t yet seen the movie or heard the soundtrack (not combined), I strongly recommend to buy them both, I have.
Ronin (1998)
Cool as it gets when Stellan is there.
Great movie with a lot of good actors. Big applause for Stellan Skarsgård and Jean Reno. Kind of a reminder of Taxi, as to the scenes in the tunnels. Great lines and a lot of great car scenes.
Charmed (1998)
A promising drama, not like many others
I just saw the pilot episode here in Sweden, and I must say that it looks promising, despite the production company. I, and I hope that many others have seen some kind of trend developing in the US, to try to make one drama series better than the other. I´m talking about series like Beverly Hills, Melrose Place etc. that contains young people and their daily problems in life. There are many huge series in the world, and many of them good, but lately the trend is getting outworn. Dawson's Creek is so far a breakthrough in that genre, but now this. Charmed has astonished me by being different from the others, just because it´s not just the average day problems that accures, and I hope that I´m not the only one who thinks it´s boring to see one women after another, to make her claims on a man. Frankly speaking it sucks. It´s not just boring as pathetic to copy a story that already is going on in 50 other series. So a very huge plus for the three ladies who agreed to make this drama, and enlightened my day by not saying that he was mine long before yours.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
Though a sequel, still decent
I thought that this would be a terrible sequel like Terror on Elm Street or Friday the 13th, but it wasn´t. Many sequels have the potential to fail to their mother-titles as a call it. (Ex. the sequel of Jaws was not in the near of the first movie). I got surprised that this one didn´t follow the long line of sequels that puts a bad name on the first picture. As Scream 2, this was good, but it didn´t match their mother-titles, but still it´s a decent movie, and I recommend everybody to see for them-self. Good acting, and great looking scenery made this one almost as good as it mother-title.
Enemy of the State (1998)
Good to see new technology in new movies
The movie was good, but it was hard to follow or tag along when the shots of the satellite closed in on the neighbourhood. The satellite images was going to fast with the zooming that my head span around. Don´t take me wrong, I like that kind of hig-tech, but it can be annoying when it´s not well done. As far as the movie I was enjoying myself, though the story could get more detailed. I had the feeling that the director was only taking a sip of the water instead of the whole glass. I mean that the director could take more time to expand the story a bit further, besides that it was a decent film, though not one of the better, though I am a huge fan of Will Smith.
