All Tied Up (1993)
"The Burning Bed" and "Misery" for laughs.
"The Burning Bed" and "Misery" for laughs. This horrible movie tries to make a variation on the hugely successful comedy "9 to 5", but it misses entirely. Three women tie up the would-be finance of one of the women (Teri Hatcher) and keep him prisoner for three days. Their idea of revenge for supposed transgressions consists of various forms of torture, including not letting him use the bathroom, not feeding him properly, leaving him completely tied to the bed and helpless while QVC blasts from the TV all day, using his credit cards for their own purchases, getting him fired for missing an important meeting, shaved him with a rusty razor, and so on. All this for problems making commitments. Get the picture? Hatcher is cute, and very Lois-like, but I couldn't watch the last 10 minutes. My advice? Skip it.
Picture Perfect (1997)
If you like 'Friends' than this is a terrific comedy for you.
If you like 'Friends' than this is a terrific comedy for you. Jennifer Aniston carries the movie, but everyone is good. Mom (Olympia Dukakis), Nick (Jay Mohr), and Sam (Kevin Bacon) are especially good in their roles. Among his other talents, Kevin Bacon is known for terrific cameos ('Plains, Trains, and Automobiles''Animal House', etc). This is a little more than a cameo and Kevin does his usual best as Kate's unrequited love interest. Best if watched more than once.
Captain Ron (1992)
While not for everyone, this movie is hilarious.
Ignore the critics. Kurt Russell and Martin Short play off each other very well. Kurt is even funnier than he was in "Big Trouble in Little China." Mary Kay Place and the children are just right to balance out the main cast. Paul Anka plays an effectively smarmy yacht broker (don't ask why). The scenary is pretty. The situations are somewhat far-fetched. Even so, we laughed a lot.
