Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Watch the movie instead
This is an average game. I really had high hopes for this game. Every mission is the same thing over and over. To complete a mission, all you do is run around playing baseball with droids, push or "force push" a switch, and fulfill your objectives, which in some stages there is a boss.
However, this game also has its good sides. For example, for the ones that hate Jar Jar, you can kill him, but the mission comes to an end. Another good thing is the Duel of the Fates video that was packed with the game.
I hope the next two Episode I games, Power Battles and the Obi-Wan first-person adventure game, makes up for all the errors from The Phantom Menace.
Ryôri no tetsujin (1993)
Good show, but a bit melodramatic
This show is a bit on the melodramatic side, but still is one of the best cooking shows I've ever seen. It is dubbed, and aired on the Food Network Channel on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm. It also airs on the Japanese Channel, but I don't know what time.
There are four chefs (sometimes there are three, the other one just doesn't have a platform) called "Iron Chefs." There is the Iron Chef of Japan, Iron Chef of Italy, Iron Chef of China, and I forgot what country was the other Iron Chef who wasn't usually there. Anyway, a challenger chooses who he (I've never seen a female yet) wants to "battle" with, and then Chairman Kaga, the boss, selects an ingredient, ranging from sea animals to herbs, as the theme of what the chefs have to cook up in one hour. Usually, four to six dishes are made. After the hour is up, four judges (two being guest judges, who, usually, are celebrities) give their scores to determine the winner. The best part is hearing the judges' comments (there was once an actress who commented on the Iron Chef of Japan and just said, "I hate it!" I was LOL!)
The one thing that is not so hot is the dubbed English on the Food Network. It's just the floor reporters' voice. He is running out there and yells the host's name "Fukui-san!" It gets irritating after a while.
Avoid the dubbed voice of the floor reporter, and you'll enjoy a whole hour of cooking. By the way, you may be tempted to get something to eat afterwards.
Kurono toriga (1995)
One of Squaresoft's best!
Chrono Trigger is the first game that comes to my mind when I think of the word "Squaresoft." The idea of time travel in the game was used in a creative way; however, it could be used in an even better way, but let's just leave that to the developers. The only gripe in this game is just Crono's personality, he literally has none. I hope the revision for the PlayStation will improve in this matter. If not, I hope Squaresoft adds some new features in it to make up for this gripe.
Fainaru fantajî VIII (1999)
Hmm. Am I playing a game or watching a movie?
Definition of RPG: A game in which you, the player, play the roles of fiction people in a fiction world. Final Fantasy VIII is the game that meets and exceeds the definition of RPG. This game is packed with a great story that it makes the player forget that it's just a game, and the story could make you cry if you were that sensitive. The characters, wow, they are the kind of people we can all relate to. The FMV's are also great, in fact, most of them are memorable. Then, the eye-popping graphics are the best I've ever seen on the PlayStation. Oh, and let's not forget about the card game, it's very addictive.
However, there are down sides to this game. For example, the junction system. It's something new, but it does get tedious when drawing magic in battle. And why can't the summon cinemas be skipped? It's cool seeing it for the first time, but it gets boring just waiting for a summon to finish their magic for the bajillon-th time, but at least the enemy gets major damage
Anyway, if you're looking for the best RPG with two small flaws, Final Fantasy VIII is the game for you. This game will want you to experience it more than once, no doubt.
SaGa Frontier (1997)
Good or Bad? Bad or Good?
This game has a unique concept of letting you play multiple characters in their own different quest, but the problem was that this game is too non-linear! You go here, you go there, and you get lost. It takes forever. And the battles suck, too. It could have been improved.
Total Request Live (1998)
Rigged
This show is not bad. You have some decent videos, some celebrity guests in each airing, and you get to win prizes. However, I'm positively sure that the producer of the show actually places "The Backstreet Boys" and "N'sync" in the top two positions. Then the producer switches the positions every other day or so, to let the viewers(mostly teenage girls) be attracted to the show by seeing who will have the number one spot. I bet even Carson Daly suspects this.
