Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996)
Very, very sexy...
Wow..wow..wow! Watch this one with the one you love (or lust for?). You will enjoy this movie...it's a feast for the eyes and it makes you dream about having s** in exotic places. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. And, it may even inspire you to belly dance and/or run to the nearest bookstore and grab a copy of the Kama Sutra for yourself. Rent it, buy it..see it in a theater near you. Whatever...you'll enjoy it. Wheeeww...pant..pant..gasp. Anybody have a cigarette?
Holy Smoke (1999)
Kate Winslet Smokes in HS...
Hey, this is a pretty good little film. Blew me away...unexpectedly. Kate Winslet turns in an outstanding performance as does Harvey Keitel and they're complimented by a more than adequate supporting cast (btw, did you notice Sophie Lee? methinks she's a star in the making). The soundtrack and cinematography are also exceptional. Loved Jane Campion's shot selection. 9 of 10.
Pitch Black (2000)
A Very Good Movie...
Pitch Black is well worth the price of admission. It's a well-written character driven drama set in space rather than your typical sci-fi filled with loads of SFX. An intelligent screenplay paired with very capable acting. It's gritty, it's in your face, it'll make you LOL, it may even make you want to cry...now that's entertainment! I gave it a 9 out of 10.
The Birth of a Nation (1915)
Hateful, mean-spirited propaganda...
It's an absolute shame that Griffith allowed his politics to poison his art. "Birth" is an overly long, melodramatic propaganda piece that is the "original" hatchet-job on Blacks. The effects of this film are still being felt today. Instead of using his gift to further real progress in this country, he chose to create a film that distorts history, while juxtaposing powerful images of Blacks as incompetent savages (or fawning servants) with courageous virtuous whites thereby pandering to xenophobic hate mongers and misguided members of his own race. It gets 1 vote...the minimum.
Hidden Beauties (1999)
Very Nice...
Three cheers to Sam Silver and Full Moon Entertainment for re-discovering this. For what it is...this movie delivers in spades. As an added plus, the musical score is surprisingly good - no kidding. I would have liked to see a more diverse cast, but the actresses they found did just fine.
The Getaway (1994)
Pretty Good!
Pretty good acting..pretty good action.. pretty good cinematography...makes a pretty good film. Not a must-see, but well worth your time.
The Matrix (1999)
One of the Best...
Simply put...one of the best Sci-fi movies ever. Tight plot, well acted, great special effects and thought provoking. Movies like this don't come along too often. Thoroughly enjoyable! Watch it, no, savor it again and again!
