Alien³ (1992)
My favourite of the four
Maybe it's because this was the first 'Alien' movie I saw, and I saw in the cinema, but it's my favourite of the series. The music, the action, the direction and the acting are terrific. Ripley is tougher and she's more interesting as well. Her character really develops in this one.
After this one, Alien is second best. I like Aliens least, contrary to popular opinion. Alien Resurrection is also terrific.
Ice Age (2002)
Short and sweet!
I must confess, the trailer for this movie could have been better - but I'm glad I watched it (at the behest of a friend). The script, animation and story were all excellent and the voices of the characters matched perfectly! I enjoyed it more than the last few big animated movies like Shrek and Monsters Inc. A great movie! Watch out for the squirrel - the funniest animated animal ever!
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999)
Amazing!
I haven't seen the stage version of Joseph... and I'm sure the real thing on stage is much more spectacular, but this televised version is the next best thing! So enjoyable and not a dull moment. Of course, the songs, music and cast makes it that good, especially Donny Osmond as Joseph. Maria Friedman is also quite good. I love the whole school setting, though I agree with another IMDb user that they shouldn't have shown the children so much. The end was a pleasant surprise. Excellent! Worth watching many times!!
Jerry Maguire (1996)
Gets better everytime you watch it!
The first time I saw this movie, I was unimpressed, I felt it didn't live up to the hype. When I saw it again, I loved it! I don't know much about American football, and I don't like Tom Cruise, but I really think he deserved the Oscar for his performance in this movie! I just love the part in the hotel room, when he picks up the phone and sniffs. Great film, worth watching over and over again!
Out of Sight (1998)
Subtle romantic comedy
Everything in this movie is subtle - the romance, the comedy and the intelligence. The director has done an excellent job, and the screenplay is terrific. All the actors do a good job, especially Jennifer Lopez, George Clooney and Dennis Farina. I especially liked the scenes in the elevator, the hotel room and the bank robbery. Good movie, can't wait to see it again!
The Brittas Empire (1991)
One of the Best
This is one of the funniest British comedies I've ever seen, besides The New Statesman. Mr. Brittas and Carol have got to be the funniest characters in this serial. Mrs Brittas also provides some humour, and each episode guarantees a few laughs. Definitely worth watching!!
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Hilarious!
This movie gets better and better the more you see it. The two main actors have wonderful chemistry and comic timing. Who would have thought that Jeff Daniels would be such an amazing comedian! Each scene is guaranteed to make you laugh.
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
Good Movie
I don't usually like Gwenyth Paltrow in any film, but I was pleasantly surprised with her performance in this one. She easily comes out as the best actor in this film, though there are stellar performances from both Jude Law and Matt Damon. The characterisation is perfect, it's not really necessary that you like the characters. Jude Law's character was the most well developed of them all. And the atmosphere created by the director is almost perfect - especially both boat scenes and the chess scene. Excellent! I did however feel that the movie was a bit long and dragged a bit in the end. Great music, sets, cinematography, costumes and production design!
Young Frankenstein (1974)
Funny, Funny, Funny!
As you may have guessed from my brief summary, I found this movie extremely funny. I can't believe that it was made in the year 1974! It seems ageless! Gene Wilder does a terrific job in this movie - from the beginning to the end. I love the scene in the classroom, and the blind man scene, and Igor is truly hilarious. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to laugh for a hour and a half.
Staying Alive (1983)
A must see for Dance lovers!
I admit I saw this movie ages ago, when I was just 12 or 13 years old. At that time I was completely in love with John Travolta and the way he danced. So naturally I loved this movie and saw it again and again. The music is strictly okay, except for the Beegees - they're excellent. It's a must see for anyone who studies dance or simply enjoys it. Travolta is excellent. I can't believe he's the same person who's in Pulp Fiction and Face/off - he's so overweight and unfit now! Check out his amazing moves in this flick.
Mars Attacks! (1996)
Disappointing, at first
Being a big Tim Burton fan, I watched this movie with pretty high expectations, and came out disappointed. But when I watched it again, I found that it was actually quite hilarious. I know a lot of people who didn't like it, so it's not for everyone. Casting is superb, especially Jack Nicholson, Annette Benning, Lukas Haas, Sylvia Sidney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Danny Devito, Glenn Close...the list goes on. I found Glenn Close particularly funny. But Natalie Portman's performance is quite bland - whatever happened to her expressions and acting after 'The Professional'? All in all, an entertaining movie.
The Mummy Returns (2001)
Popcorn Movie
The Mummy Returns is a good movie if you don't take it too seriously. And it's better to watch it after seeing the first one. The special effects were definitely better in this movie. Brendan Fraser hardly had a role though - seemed a bit henpecked. The son was good and so was John Hannah's character. Fight sequences were excellent - especially in the Egyptian sequences. The Anubis warriors were good too. Entertaining.
Moonstruck (1987)
Honest and Sentimental
Moonstruck is one of the most honest and touching love stories. Cher and Nicholas Cage are absolutely wonderful and so is Olympia Dukakis. The script is also very moving - especially between the old couple, when he sees the moon. Excellent cast, script and direction. Totally recommended!!
Billy Elliot (2000)
Not Just About Ballet
I learn ballet, and my whole ballet class went together to watch the movie, knowing it was about dancing. But we soon found out that that's not all it's about. Jamie Bell deserves all praise for his intense performance. Gary Lewis and Julie Walters were excellent as well. In fact, the whole cast was excellent - it was flawless acting from all. The Soundtrack is also worth mentioning.
Big Business (1988)
Guaranteed Laughs!
I just love this movie - I've seen it several times and it makes me laugh each time. The two lead actresses are wonderful, and perform their roles perfectly. Bette Midler is especially wonderful as the rich bitch.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
The Best
I saw this movie as a kid, when my mother took my sister and me to the theatre to watch it. When I saw it again after it's re-release a few years back, it was as good as I remembered it to be. The action, adventure, characters, plot, music and atmosphere makes it the best of all the Star Wars movies.
GATTACA (1997)
Excellent Film
I wanted to watch this movie for months, and I finally got the chance last night. And it lived up to all my high expectations. The acting is excellent, and so is the production design. I especially liked Jude Law. I also liked the scenes between Ethan Hawke's character and his brother. An excellent film, worth watching more than once.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Excellent Production Design
Though the sets look a little dated in this movie, the Production Design is excellent even for this day and age. It's an excellent movie, that combines comedy and horrible violence so masterfully! The beginning of the movie, and the hour that comes after is absolutely fantastic. It gets even better when you see it again. Stanley Kubrick did a fantastic job on this film. Check out the parts when he revisits 'Home', and also in the beginning on the waterfront when Alex drives his point home. Worth seeing!!
Gladiator (2000)
Good acting
The acting in this movie redeems the plot. Joaquim Phoenix is one of the most underrated actors, I feel. He's excellent in the movie especially in the scene with Richard Harris. Russell Crowe is adequete in his role and Richard Harris is good. Good costumes, but did Romans wear Indian Bindis at that time? Hmmm. The sets were good as well and this movie has definitely made me want to see go to Rome to admire the Architecture! The best scene is in the beginning, the Battle in Germania.Excellent direction.
American Beauty (1999)
Much better the second time!
Anyone who didn't enjoy the movie, I recommend you see it once more. It's definitely better. In fact I think the direction is brilliant and Kevin Spacey is excellent. I also think that Annette Benning's performance is wonderful! I think she definitely deserved the Oscar nomination, if not the Award itself!! Some scenes are a bit on the 'Pseudo' side, but all in all, a good film.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Tim Burton does it again!..
Though not his best movie ( I liked Edward Scissorhands the best), the Direction is excellent. Though I was not scared out of my wits, the atmosphere was eerie. Christopher Walken was very good, and Johnny Depp was adequete. My favorite scenes were right at the beginning of the film and the scene which explains the story of the Headless Horseman. Worth watching...
Notting Hill (1999)
A very sweet movie
While I wouldn't go so far as to say 'brilliant', this movie is quite good. It's a sweet, romantic and funny movie and the actors do a good job. I like the fact that it's in a quaint place like Notting Hill. Worth seeing..
Great Expectations (1998)
A good movie
The first time I saw this movie, I didn't think it was that good. But when I saw it again, I definitely liked it. I never liked Paltrow that much, but I think Ethan Hawke did a good job. The location and Set Design are excellent as well as the Art Direction. I really like the 'Green' look in the movie. Every scene has something green in it, clothes or a bottle label - something or the other. The music is excellent too.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
A wonderful Film!
One of the most touching movies I have ever seen! The acting is excellent except for the Lead Actress. The script is very good. I especially liked the part where Anthony Hopkins and his eldest daughter speak about their relationship. Very, very touching!!
Late Night with Conan O'Brien (1993)
It's really funny!!
Well, we don't get a lot of talk shows where I live, I only get to see Conan and Jay Leno. Frankly, I think Jay is very irritating and arrogant. Conan's self-depracating humour is much more amusing!! I love the Skits in between the 1st and 2nd guests. The Masturbating Bear and Triumph the Insult Dog are hilarious!! I also love 'If they Mated'. Definitely worth a watch!!
